iPod touch 2G unboxing, hands-on, and first impressions
We'll tell you that when we first got a chance to handle Apple's latest generation of the iPod touch on Tuesday, our gadget-nerd alarms went clanging like there was a really, really bad fire somewhere. The improvements the company has made in design aren't remarkable, but they are entirely welcome. The new housing is smooth, incredibly thin, and feels like a solid metal brick in your hands. The built-in speaker is a nice addition, as are those volume controls (finally!) -- the screen is incredibly bright (on par with the iPhone 3G), though it also looks like it got the 3G's new color temperature. On the software side, 2.1 is definitely feeling smoother and slicker than previous versions, the Nike+ inclusion is huge if you're a runner, and the implementation is well integrated -- overall, we're leaning towards a thumbs-up on those bug fixes too. Unfortunately, we couldn't seem to get the Genius function working on the device (anyone else having this issue?), though that may be more of a server-side conflict than something funky with the player, as we were getting errors in iTunes when trying to flip the switch. We'll be blowing this out with a full review, but for now you can enjoy the succulent pics in the gallery below!

You are too predictable, Jubei. You included all the things I mentioned, and nothing more. Not only have you avoided the argument (because you know you're wrong), but you have lowered your status around here even more. You can't even think for yourself, so you're not just a troll, but you're a tool as well.
LOL.. really ZG. I'm quite amazed at how clouded your reasoning are. I can extoll all the virtues of the iPod Touch and its excellent ecosystem till I'm blue in the face. But your ability to comprehend prevents you from progressing beyond your stagnant understanding of why the iPods and its ecosystems is the best period.
Perhaps you can read PC Magazine that states.
"The greatest improvements are probably yet to come, as more exciting apps are designed to exploit the strengths of the touch platform. But as it stands the iPod touch remains the best portable media player on the market, period."
Poor poor ZG.
PC magazine has been a load of tripe for the past 6-7 years- they review products and base their opinions on how popular it is; anyone in the know would understand that (which apparently you aren't). Even then, that's a flat-out lie, as I know, and so do millions of others, that the Archos outdoes the iPod Touch feature for feature, and it doesn't matter what any reviews say. But, I guess if I was as narrow minded as you, I would be listening to all the reviews and just base judgment purely on that, and not the cold hard facts about the product in question.
What's all this talk of comprehension? You have yet to post a single reply that has consisted of anything more than your standard manufactured responses that you spew in every thread. Be original- at the very least, be articulate with your posts and make them SOUND different. Your posts are "broken records".
But again, all this effort is pointless as you'll just reply again trying to make some pathetic insult- likely praise Apple and it's iPod and/or bash Microsoft and the Zune. Such a worthless POS you are- have you ever tried debating? If you have, you lost.
Another perfect example of ZG unable to comprehend. Dismissing a major publication. Recommending me to be more articulate. ZG the very person who posted "vulagrity" "name calling" "profanity" and "deviant sexual suggestions". I guess you forgot all about those post eh?
Back to the topic. See below. LOL
"But as it stands the iPod touch remains the best portable media player on the market, period."
*eating popcorn*
Oh no, I haven't forgot, but obviously you have. I have only posted those insults in retaliation to yours.
Who are you talking to? Another example? Where? You have yet to give a logical response so far. It's quite obvious no one here agrees with you, which must mean somethings up- that or no one gives a shit about what you have to say, so maybe you should lay off and get a life?
"Oh no, I haven't forgot, but obviously you have. I have only posted those insults in retaliation to yours."
Yet another example of another condition. Short term memory. Equating my descriptive observations of your chaotic behaviour to your post about me that contains "vulagrity" "name calling" "profanity" and "deviant sexual suggestions" is another proof of issues.
Back to topic.
"But as it stands the iPod touch remains the best portable media player on the market, period."
Oh, Editors rating? FIVE the highest possible rating. ahahaha poor Zune. As I have said, you have your Analog FM Radio on a thick brick size device across the board, and WiFi access on hot spots that do not require browser authentication for access. Hmmm that relegates that feature to basically useless.. ahahaha unless you practice using unsecured hot spots... now thats not very intelligent.
You're a fucking moron.
Is that "vulgar"? Not really- not in this day and age, at least, and it's a simple fact. Any insult I've thrown at you has been "observations" whether they are crude or not. Your "observations" have been nothing but crap with useless attempts to try and discredit my points (which doesn't work because everyone knows you're nothing more than a troll), and like I said before, reviews don't matter. They are personal opinions by the people reviewing them, no matter where they come from.
Try comparing the features of the Archos 5 to the iPod Touch. I can guarantee you won't because you know the Touch pales in comparison. You give biased opinions and try to pass them off as facts, and as shown in your most recent post, you bring the Zune into the light when the topic at hand is the Archos and the iPod Touch- you just love the Zune, don't you?
Whatever, I'm done with you (for the time being), as I have destroyed your arguments and made sure to expose the tool that you are. Thank you for your help in proving me right (every damn time I argue with you, that is).
One last thing for the rest of you who might be paying attention to this:

Review of the Archos 5 and brief comparison to the iPod Touch.
Yes its vulgar. It's also a measure of your maturity, respect to other people. From your previous post, you have reach the same bottom barrel level as your "me too" product.
Using profanity during a debate is an immediate loss and respect for that individual. A lesson you have yet to learn. Perhaps when you grow up a bit and mature more, you can have a level headed debate without debasing yourself. It's really sad that you are this way. Quite sad really.
LOL!
Maturity- like trolling a gadget blog is mature? Hypocrite.
It's the internet- get used to the language or get off. In an actual debate, in person, where the person who I'm debating with is isn't as dense as a brick wall, no "vulgar" language is used- you however, can't debate. You restate the same shit every time and make bland, moronic statements that are so absolutely false that you don't deserve my respect or my courtesy, in which case, I will use "vulgar" language.
Again- argument destroyed, and you will come back with another manufactured response. I'm off to bed, I don't care for this senselessness anymore- I would like to see you argue like this over some respectable forums. You would be IP banned so quickly, it wouldn't even be funny. Forum administrators hate trolls; if only Engadget was a bit more attentive.
"I will use "vulgar" language."
That is why your failure is guaranteed each and every time. Perhaps that is why you deserve to use the biggest "me too" "bottom of the barrel" PMP in the planet. The Zune lacks maturity, UI elegance and world class industrial engineering. Immature which you easily relate to.
Don't forget. "But as it stands the iPod touch remains the best portable media player on the market, period."
What of the Zune? Back to being relegated to the bottom bin of the tech world. LOL
I got one today, my previous iPOD Touch 1G worked perfectly through the iPOD port on my Infiniti G35x and I expected no less with the new 2G model. Alas not so, what I get is "Charging not supported with this acccessory"
So is it Apple or Infiniti at fault here? Something has clearly changed in the charging department!
Cheers Nigel
I got the Genius function working fine on mine but I only have about 5GB of music and most of it is the same genre so it wasn't too hard....
The Genius feature is working great on my 1st gen iPod Touch. I believe you have to turn Genius on in iTunes 8 and let it evaluate your library, then sync, in order to have it on the iPod Touch, which makes sense.
In fact it's better than I was thinking. It's an easy way to get a mix of songs from your iPod that are similar, but not too similar as to be boring. Definitely much better than a simple random play.
Also the 2.1 firmware is working flawlessly for me, and that's a *lot* more than can be said for 2.0.x (which was pretty much a complete disaster.) I think that 2.0 was really some alpha release that they rushed to market in an attempt to stay ahead. They should have waited until it was really done, but then now it appears to be, so I'm happy.
I love the new speaker! I surf the internet and watch videos on it while I am laying in bed or out in yard and the built in speaker means I don't have to grab some headphones to listen to something real quick. I am getting one, hopefully before my trip.
Is there a screen protector included in the retail packaging?
ugh, the black box looks so much better.
So is it correct that the Ipod touch 2g wont be released until Sept. 19th?
Oh COME ON! I bought an iPod Touch in June, and it's ALREADY outdated?!
Why do you toy with my emotions, Mr. Jobs?
after installing itunes 8.0 i am getting blue screens with vista...along with my girlfriend and several other friends...when i try to reinstall the old version...it says it cant read my itunes library since it was created by 8.0....now im without ipod organizing for my trip this weekend... this bites.
I always asked me: does apple care about the earth. Throw away plastics for a simple mpr3 player? This is whith every casing / box of them. Even if you just buy a compy you get some fancy painted box which you dump anyway. I don´t know if they take them at least back like dell in germany ( if you are a real / corporate costumer ). But then we have a big "Industrie" in Europe / Germany: Old Paper. Waste Management Corporates are fighting for what in most city´s is a seperate blue wastebin for paper.
But then again apple is for the connaiseur and for the down to earth user. Don´t get me to wrong here i like the inventions of apple if they are worldy ( my Notebook has a touchpad which is located below the keyboard which was "invented" by apple and the list could go on .. )
Pretty - but for all of its whizbangery, its still just a iPod with the ability to call home (iTunes Store) for the consumer to blow more cash without inconveniently needing to boot up their computer.
As a Content Delivery Device, I'm sure its fine (and if Jobs could have swung it to only let the Touch access the net to get to the Store, he likely would have) but otherwise, as a portable multimedia / info device, its still limited. This update did nothing to allow playback of anything more than MPEG-4 video (as found at iTunes), its virtual keyboard is still stuck in vertical mode (all but useless for fingers bigger than a 14 year old's) in all but mobile Safari and, for Windows users, it still won't sync Calendar / Address info with anything but Outlook. Outlook? Jeez, how mid-90s can you get?
Really - I mean, it almost makes my 3 year old Palm TX (running a 12 year old OS) seem contemporary and cutting edge....
In short, "Nice iPod. Pity about the rest."
If you have the iPod touch 1st gen than stay with it till the real 2Gen comes out next year.
I can hear Jobs now "we've improved the speaker and we've made it even thinner' (back to 8mm like the 1Gen) ...Our nano has this gorgeous 204ppi high definition screen so we thought we'd bring it to iPod touch... but why stay with the 3.5inch screen when we can make it 4inch, so here it is the iPod touch HD (or something along those lines).
There's no bought that next year is the year for iPhone and iPod touch, just wait and see. The two year rule applies with apple now days, release(day 1) tart-up -(1st anniversary call it 2 Gen when it’s really 1.5) replace-(2nd anniversary call it 3Gen when it’s really 2Gen).
it does "ipod touch 2g" have a bluetooth chip embedded so we will wait to see what it is for
