Sony's VAIO NS packs Blu-ray for $1000
Sony's string of new VAIOs continues today with the NS series, slick little numbers that can be ordered with a Blu-ray drive under that magic $1000 price point. The 15.4-inch laptops come in blue silver and white and all run Vista Home Premium with special Sony media features on 2GHz T5800 Core 2 Duo processors and integrated X4500 graphics, with prices starting at $650 for 3GB of RAM and a 250GB drive. Release date is unclear, but Sony's got them up on its web site, so we're guessing it'll be soon.

wow, finally a 1080p bd player that takes advantage of optimum viewing distance - in your face!
^ is the new first
i wonder what the full specs are (battery, weight etc). and this could signal the expected drop in including blu-ray.
she does look nice though
Why is Apple becoming a standard comparison of everything now? Or because it's just "standard"?
Apple is better than every company inthe world just because...
Apple - Sony , just because the vaio x505 is thinner than the Macbook Air?
Apple - Microsoft , just because 90% of the "Computer" in the world run Windows? and Apple wants more market share by advertising the very breakthrough "BOOTCAMP" to run windows?
Apple - Zune , Just because Zunes get free "firmware upgrade" and has a full album art picture on now playing screen 3 years ago - just like the new nano?
Apple - Nintendo , Just because an iPod touch isn't the "Funnest gaming device"?
So,
Apple - Orange , Just because Apples come with two colors - that's green and red compare to only one in orange?
These are some nice @$$ laptops ... MacBook's are still better tho ... i wish Apple Ruled The World
Crapple makes laptops worse than $ony, and that's saying something...
Integrated Graphics?
----
NEXT!!!!
For that price, im not suprised its integrated graphics. Its under 1000 with a blu-ray player. Thats not bad at all. 1300 and then expect discrete graphics. For 1000, this is about right.
Do they still have the "unbloating" feature when ordering?
I agree, but it makes a person wonder how well 1080p is going to run on integrated graphics
GMA X4500 is a pretty up to date DX10 chip, that and the Core 2 Duo should mean it can handle High Def. However, as mentioned below, it has a low res display and no digital display output, which renders the whole bluray thing a bit of a waste of time.
What's the point of Blu-Ray on a laptop with a 1280x800 screen?
Apart from that, it looks nice, though.
well, 720p is still very nice resolution, and better than you'll get off of DVD. If it has HDMI out though, well, there's your answer.
I think its relevant to note that none of the models linked have 1080-capable displays. Actually, none of them have above 1280x800, which is pretty low for a 15.4" in 2008, 1440x or 1680x is the norm. None of them have HDMI either.
Got the right direction in styling. Pretty sweet feature set for the price.
Ye, Although I cant help thinking that looks sooo similar to my vostro 1400. Just the whole curve shape a is more exagerrated (Which i like).
i might get this
Why have Blu-Ray on a laptop with a 1280x800 screen and not even HDMI out!?
for ripping =D
I have a 6 month old HP DV9000 with BluRay and it was $1000 bucks with discrete graphics (8600 gs)...
Not sure hitting 1000 is such a milestone.
This is $ONY's first laptop that costs less than 1000 grand. What's the point? Boo-ray sucks sh**. Piss poor.
This might be cheap[er], but how much does it weigh?
Always some sort of catch...
Makes me hate my MacBook. Wish Vaios could run OS X because they're beautiful and very well built.
Sweet! Now to just wait 2-3 years for the price to drop...
As already stated the resolution is bad, not only because of the lack of pixels, its the wrong aspect ratio!!!!
Are you guys mentally demented or something? blu-ray can also be used for storage.... hence lots of files. Not only movies.
My Vaio VGN-FZ348E was $999 back in the spring at Circuit City: Intel C2D, Blu-ray, HDMI-out, GeForce 8400M GT 256MB
