Dell's E4300 and E4200 Latitude laptops available this Tuesday

Hey, remember those totally slick Latitude E4300 and E4200 13.3- or 12.1-inch laptops we told you about last month? Well if you've been itching to get your hands on one, they're going to be available very, very soon (September 16th, that is). If you'll recall, these little dudes boast Dell's new Latitude ON feature, the SplashTop-esque, instant-on desktop that gives you quick access to Firefox and a handful of other Linux-based apps. They also happen to tread that fine line between geek-lust design and hard-nose business machine guts. The systems will be available with Core 2 Duo CPUs, DDR3 RAM up to 8GB, hard drives up to 250GB (or a 64GB SSD), WiFi, and sport 1280 x 800 widescreen displays. My Dell rep (Australia) is still telling me they'll (E4200) be in his system later this afternoon (it's 2pm on the 16th here right now)... but I'm not convinced. I get the awful feeling that they'll be pushed back yet again. :-( boo

Err. Someone mentioned ports. Both the E4200 and 4300 have an eSATA/USB combo port.

It's also happy to note that the E4200 has a backlight keyboard option... some specs summaries have shown it only for E4300

Dissapointed to see that E4300 is not released today 16/9 as was announced !
I called Dell, they don't know when it will be released, they say maybe tonight or tomorrow... and they cannot give the price....

indeed! the prices in Europe are waaay higher than my rep in Australia has been promising :-/

Where are the color options? I didn't see where you could choose your color either on the E4300 or the E4200. Usually it's one of the first options when configuring your Dell.

completely botched release


hardware version of latitude-ON.... not until christmas, and you must buy it seperately.

colours - not on website... second blue and pink not available for another 2 months

backlight keyboard (E4200) .... unavailable until November


customize / buy page not available in my region yet (a-pac)


if it wasn't for the super nice price I've been quoted by my rep (aprox $2150 USD) ... then I'd probably just go buy a x200

apparently today is the day for backlit keyboards (E4200)

i already have colour options available in my region.

i just left a message with my dell rep.... I'm going to smash something if I get stooged again.

(although, I have had a E4200 - not mine - in my possession for a day, and it is crazy light... but otherwise kinda uninspiring for the price)

I ordered this on the day this was available for ordering, September 16th. Today is October 18, and it isn't even in production yet.

What are we waiting for... the competition to come out with exactly the same machine, but cheaper?

Dell's REALLY screwed the pooch on this one.
