Whoa, boy -- HP just went loony on us tonight, and in the midst of everything else, we found a new pair of
HDX notebooks. Kicking things off is the X16, which boasts a woefully under-pixelated 16-inch 1,366 x 768 resolution display, a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo P8400 CPU, NVIDIA's 512MB GeForce 9600 GT, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a 320GB 5,400RPM hard drive, dual-layer SuperMulti optical drive and built-in WiFi / Bluetooth. As for the beastly X18, you'll find a lot of the same kit internally, but the 18-inch 1,920 x 1,080 display is one we can really salivate over; additionally, this one ups the ante with twin 250GB HDDs and a Blu-ray reader. Each unit includes the essentials: an Ethernet port, multicard reader, integrated Altec Lansing speakers, ExpressCard slot, four USB 2.0 sockets, audio in / out, HDMI / VGA and a 4-pin FireWire connector. Both units should ship later this month starting at $1,249 and $1549, respectively.
Sweet !
A bit dissappointed at the CPU? My laptop has P9500 and it's much smaller... Also, the old HDX had Core 2 Extreme...
Love the new look
does anybody know hwere i can get the new backgrounds ?
there cool
is that casing around the keys chrome 0_o if so it's making me a little woozey....
HP DOES IT AGAIN !
(poud HP Fanboy since 1998)
I don't have a problem with it, but how come so many laptops have the touchpad off-center nowadays? One would think it would be centered for lefties/righties.
It's "off-center" relative to the actual width of the computer, but it is centered under the QWERTY keyboard. The number pad just throws it off. Considering standard typing is going to be ignoring the number pad, it is centered for everyday use. If it was physically centered, your right hand would be hitting the mouse all the time as you typed.
Also of note when it comes to the trackpad: the audio jacks are no longer directly under it, dead center. The move to the corner while still keeping them facing forward is nice. Excellent job, HP.
Now I really want them to make their TX2000 tablet with Intel processors please!
Man I do too, I have a tx2000 right now and I miss my dv2500's Intel processor! Fricken Turion...
These laptops look amazing...
But what happened to the 20-inch screen, Extreme CPU and 9800m GTS? I mean with these specs there is NO big reason to pick the HDX18 over DV7; well, except for the 1-inch extra you get on the screen and HD resolution.
Thinking the same thing.
They included an expensive Blu-ray drive, at the expense of an Xtreme CPU and 9800 gfx card. WHY?? Just when I was thinking I don't need to pay 4500$ for a high-end gaming laptop. (alienware are-51, sagernotebooks)
I was wishing they release the new HDX with Voodoo DNA and make it a gaming brand just like Dell's XPS.
@TareX
BTW SagerNotebooks are not that expensive comparing to what you get. I agree that Alienware maybe overpriced but hey I love my m15x ;)
You have an m15x? Lucky, lucky you.
It's a shame the m17x doesn't have that glorious skull-case design as an option.... I agree sagernotebooks are much less expensive, but lack the WOW factor Alienware puts on the interior and exterior of its hardware... and I want the WOW factor.
Question: How good is Crysis running on "very high" on your m15x?
Why the hell they put TV resolutions in those? What's wrong with standard 16:10 resolutions such as 1440x900 or 1920x1200? If I had to watch a movie from screen that small, the extra black bars on top and bottom would be the smallest of my problems.
And the chrome (or piano black?) looks awful. Sorry, no shining surfaces anywhere near my hands.
I was thinking about getting a Macbook, but I might have to reconsider my decision.
My God! the latter would literally RAPE the Macbook pro!
Renew price? :)
Four-pin Firewire? BULLSHIT. So your little portable drive isn't so little and portable when you have to carry a power brick with it.
I say the unbroken trend of GLOSSY EVERYTHING is a clear indicator that cocaine will prevail. How do you know you're in snorter territory? Super glossy gadgets all over the place. Disgusting.
Is the one on the roght a 13-inch one..? Looks pretty small....
Why do these computers have 4gb of ram AND .5gb of video ram??? A 32-bit windows pc can only utilize about 3gb of ram (that includes video ram). Maxing thing thing out at 2.5gb of ram and .5gb of video ram would make much more sense. HP is selling ram in this machine that customers cannot possibly use. They're just trying to sucker people into thinking "more ram is better!!!". While that may be true, it's only better on a 32-bit windows machine when you don't surpass about 3gb. What a waste.
I for one will take the extra ram because I use Vista Ultimate x64 which can use the memory. It also helps it to work with future RAM-hungry (or hungrier) applications.
Never complain about a screen being under pixelated until you have to stare at it all day squinting to see the tiny text.
These things are looking good, hp has started making some better notebooks. But the size in these things to my consumer base (work at circuit city) will be a turn off. If they got them down in size with the same specs 14.1/15.4 I bet they would sell a lot more. They are cheap for what they got in them but that's why it will crap out on yo 3 years down the line. I'll just have to wait and get one into the store to make a final judgment.
I think I just found my new laptop! :D (HDX16)
When does the HDX 18 come out? I dont see it on HP's website.
