fit-PC slim, the 'world's smallest PC' -- just don't lose it on your desk

fit-PC Slim is billed as the "smallest, most energy efficient PC available," and at 13 ounces it just might be. Slim is housed in a 330cc enclosure (4.3 x 3.9 x 1.2 inches), draws a mere 6 watts of power, and like the Linutop 2, runs on a 500MHz AMD Geode. This machine is available in a pared-down 256MB configuration (sans WiFi, hard drive) for $220; a 512MB WiFi version (with no hard drive) for $245; or go all out with the 512MB / WiFi / 60GB hard disk version pre-installed with either Ubuntu or Windows XP Home SP3, for $295 or $335, respectively.

Wut? @ Sep 17th 2008 3:43PM
But can it run Crysis?
stianh @ Sep 17th 2008 3:47PM
Enough with this!!!
Decoy @ Sep 17th 2008 3:49PM
Hilarious! "Can it run Crysis?"
Sir you belong on broadway.
Anthony Castanza @ Sep 17th 2008 3:49PM
Forget running Crysis, i doubt you will even be able to type the word Crysis in MS Word because of the lag from trying to run a complete version of XP on a 500mhz processor...
GON @ Sep 17th 2008 3:59PM
Nah but it can run Firefox, which I can use to login into Engadget and low rank you for your stupid rhetorical question.
Bookshelf @ Sep 17th 2008 4:05PM
I can run windows xp pro on a 133mhz pentium 1 with 128mb of ram and still live with it, this would be a dream!
pozzitron_fanboi @ Sep 17th 2008 4:05PM
It can only run Crisis if pozzitron has the fit-PC in his pocket. He's haxor like that. One time, pozzitron came over to my house and held onto my EeePC and it ran Crisis on high until he stopped holding it. That's my favourite childhood memory.
Jason Litka @ Sep 17th 2008 4:07PM
You know, some of us used computers a lot slower than 500MHz and Word ran just fine. In fact, some of us still have the install disks (yeah, floppies) for those old versions of Word, so we'll be OK.
Lowest Ranked @ Sep 17th 2008 4:13PM
Keep telling yourself that Frank. I think its time to move on.
Muhammed @ Sep 17th 2008 4:48PM
I just love the new "Blue background" for the Highest ranks.
Reader @ Sep 17th 2008 4:52PM
My 333Mhz T240 can run even the new word and XP, just not very well. Only problems that come up are when I try to inject an equation into it, and even with that I just have to wait about 10 seconds.
davy @ Sep 17th 2008 5:17PM
But can it blend an even smaller linux pc while playing Crisis?
dzhiurgis @ Sep 17th 2008 5:45PM
Wut Wut, in my butt.
Nelson @ Sep 17th 2008 5:51PM
"I just love the new "Blue background" for the Highest ranks."
... And how the lowest ranked ones just sort of fade away (as well they should)
Flashpoint @ Sep 17th 2008 6:33PM
DAMN
He beat me to it.
Honestly, I'd settle for Quake 2.
striggity @ Sep 17th 2008 8:26PM
you can has lame ass engadget comment?
xValentine @ Sep 17th 2008 10:06PM
Now beat that Apple and Asus!
thedesolate1 @ Sep 17th 2008 10:56PM
This will also get a "vista capable" sticker on it as well...
phanbouy @ Sep 17th 2008 3:44PM
yeah that's super but i for one commend the refining of the faded text and the new goldenrod banners for highest rankers!
GON @ Sep 17th 2008 3:48PM
*Agreed. The people who are appreciated by the community shown stand out the most. Altering the text of the trolls only draws the reader's attention to them, pretty much giving them what they want.
*Hopes to be highest ranked.
Juxtah @ Sep 17th 2008 3:52PM
I like it, just neutral comments need to be a bit clearer because atm it's too much effort to actually read them to decide whether it deserves a low/high rank.
whowhatme @ Sep 17th 2008 4:05PM
heh heh, you said 'goldenrod'
Mike @ Sep 17th 2008 5:12PM
Honestly, the faded comments piss me off and i wish i could turn it off. Sometimes they need to be flamed, and sometimes they need some lovin.
And my poor vision just makes me want to file suit against Engadget for not caring about the old people.
fanthem @ Sep 17th 2008 7:53PM
Phanbouy. Who is that in your avatar? Been seeing it for like weeks now but finally cracked. The laziness has worn off so I thought I would ask.
Lance @ Sep 17th 2008 8:09PM
@fanthem
It's Rhys Darby playing the lovable kiwi Murray Hewitt on HBO's 'The Flight of the Conchords'.
God that sounded like an ad :)

it's like overeating. just because you can doesn't mean you should.
Samboini @ Sep 17th 2008 3:57PM
It is still impressive to see how far we've come. No manipulating my comment phanbouy.

"This video is not available in your country"
I'm in Canada. What is this video?
v3xx @ Sep 17th 2008 5:34PM
its just a video of a song called look how far we've come. cause of your comment. i agree its significant but its more like the missing link between smartphones like the iphone and a desktop.
lorddshadow @ Sep 17th 2008 10:18PM
hehe 'how far we've come'
Ry4n @ Sep 17th 2008 3:59PM
flash drives are sooo 2007
shaun @ Sep 17th 2008 3:46PM
That's amazing. I mean, I don't know anybody who would buy one but the fact that it can run windows is good I suppose
Taylor @ Sep 17th 2008 5:31PM
It would be great for robotics. Things like vision processing, bluetooth control, etc are really difficult or impossible to run off of small microcontrollers.
-Taylor
maveric101 @ Sep 17th 2008 7:16PM
the only problem of using this for robotics is the OS overhead. i'm not a professional coder or anything, but i was using a ~2.2GHz P4 notebook to process a VGA webcam image (line laser for obstacle avoidance) and it ran at around 10-12 fps, on a fresh install of XP.
Iridium @ Sep 18th 2008 11:16AM
Most people using it for robotics would be running custom Linux builds. A 500Mhz machine running Linux can process more than a 1.2Ghz machine running windows.
ShadowMaker @ Sep 17th 2008 3:47PM
Hey, is that a computer in your pocket or are you just so happy to see me?
Sly Fox @ Sep 17th 2008 3:49PM
+1
Decoy @ Sep 17th 2008 3:53PM
Oh my God, is that.. is that linux? Can I.. can I hold it?
Stiv @ Sep 17th 2008 4:03PM
"Wow, that's small."
"That's what she said."
Chris Macdonald @ Sep 17th 2008 4:17PM
to you!
BluesK1d @ Sep 17th 2008 4:28PM
What they don't tell you is that key is actually to a C-130 and its 17 inches long.
Matt Keller @ Sep 17th 2008 4:49PM
Giggity!
But srsly this is ten kinds of awesome.
e.jake.ulate @ Sep 17th 2008 4:59PM
slyfox, helluva avatar dude, nice
macserv @ Sep 17th 2008 6:29PM
@BluesK1d: Actually, I think it's to a Mazda.
maveric101 @ Sep 17th 2008 7:08PM
@ stiv
you can't say "that's what she said" to your own joke...
Chris Macdonald @ Sep 18th 2008 4:10PM
Yeah only Michael Scott can do that...
ShadowMaker @ Sep 17th 2008 3:48PM
Come to think of it. That's either the world's smallest computer or the world's largest set of car keys.
Jay @ Sep 17th 2008 8:28PM
Can't it be both?
Anthony Castanza @ Sep 17th 2008 3:48PM
