fit-PC slim, the 'world's smallest PC' -- just don't lose it on your desk

fit-PC Slim is billed as the "smallest, most energy efficient PC available," and at 13 ounces it just might be. Slim is housed in a 330cc enclosure (4.3 x 3.9 x 1.2 inches), draws a mere 6 watts of power, and like the Linutop 2, runs on a 500MHz AMD Geode. This machine is available in a pared-down 256MB configuration (sans WiFi, hard drive) for $220; a 512MB WiFi version (with no hard drive) for $245; or go all out with the 512MB / WiFi / 60GB hard disk version pre-installed with either Ubuntu or Windows XP Home SP3, for $295 or $335, respectively.

This PC came out just in time. You can shove it in your pocket and attach a cable to your brand spankin' new 5DMKII and tether that 60GB hard drive to store the images on! Whew! That's a hell of a lot cheaper than me having to go out and buy some new 16GB Extreme IV cards.
The idea is nice, the only problem being that you need an AC source since it hoists no battery.
It fits nicely in a blender, as well.
this + that head visior + wrist keyboard = IMA FUCKING CYBORG! awesome =)

Will it blend"
yes, i believe it will.
I'd rather have a mac mini.
Is this supposed to be a play on Fatboy Slim?
Fit-PC Slim
Fatboy Slim
This thing will be plenty fast if not running some useless crapplications. But with the WiFi and usb capabilities I see a key component in DIY smarthouse experiments.
Ohh wouldn't it be lovelely to combine this with a laser keyboard, the tiny 3M projector, a dynamo, one of those toy steam engines and lots of duct tape.
Perhaps with a trackball on top?
Alcoholpower, bah! Esbit ftw!
A few years ago at the heightday of DivX, these would have been awesome. Unfortunately the world has moved on. PCs such as these won't be able to play H.264 and don't have HDMI. They are even too slow to run modern media servers (e.q. newer version of slimserver) and would be messy even if they could. And even for specialized applications (e.g. as a replacement for microcontroller-driven electronics DIY and such) they lack good old serial/parallel ports. I really can't find a good use for them, as a netbook would be a better choice for a majority of remaining use-cases.
Way to go Engadget... you killed their site.
329.773275936cc, actually.
I'd buy one. Any one know what is the second smaller PC(or the old previous smallest) is?
WILL THIS BLEND CRYSIS IN HBOS CREDIT CRUNCH INSTABONE RYAN O NEAL ROLLERSKATE KATE?
Rather have a mac mini
same here. but this is pretty cool. :-)
How about after 5 or 6 negative votes comments just go away. After 5 or 6 comments get deleted so do your posting abilities.
Not the worlds smallest "full" pc, this is:

Slightly more expensive though.
how many do you guys think i need in my car to have a MCC?
As soon as you get in the car it's a MCC. Anyone that low ranks you has a tiny penis and they're just trying to hide it with low ranks. pozzitron 4evar!!!!
but will it blend?
Hacking tool? it would be so easy to hide this little guy somewhere, in a drop ceiling, in the back of an unused cabinet (might make the wifi a bit difficult), etc.
As for connectivity, you can get almost anything-to-usb nowadays. Video, audio, serial, com, ide, sata, the usb port is all you need.
And as a wearable PC... mmmm. And it's cheap enough to use as a local device controller (cameras, print server, thin client connecting your TV / Stereo to your PC...)
Stocking stuffers?
So, question - if it expects AC in, how hard will it be to hack it to accept an external battery pack? have to replace the pwrsply I suppose....
not hard considering the site says that it will accept 9-15v. Why not hook it to a cap and a solar panel and use it for free?
God, enough of the stupid ass obligatory comments, you jackasses:
- but will it blend?
- but does it play [insert game here]?
- I, for one, welcome our [whatever, blah blah]
- OMG it's only 500MHz?!
It's f'ing awesome, how's that? I'd love to run Ubuntu on this thing, it'd be great for a simple file server. I bet I could even do some web development on this baby.
No. This is the worlds smallest most energy efficent computer.
http://www.picotux.com/
so hah!
this will make a great carputer..
I don't suppose that can just be plugged into a montior? Does it have a D-sub or DVI out?
Cool......Smaller than my little Artigo. The Artigo does fine running XPpro as long as you don't ask much of it. I did take the little fan away from the heatsink. It wasn't "loud", but it wasn't even CLOSE to silent. Now the internal 160gig PATA drive and the little 320gig USB drive enclosure makes more noise than the Artigo :-)
Artigo runs fine without it's fan.....I think this one has the 1.0 Ghz proc. I'll put the fan back if I start wanting to run apps WHILE blow drying my (non-existant) hair. All it does right now is sit there being a Skype client with a Logitec Orbit cam.....It auto-answers and is running "Remote Control Eye" for the Orbit. A nerdy way to babysit an Aibo ERS7M3 as he roams the flat.
Where do I slip in my 5-1/4 inch floppy???
A BeagleBoard is under 2W and about the same size.
Can this thing play something like OpenArena (requres PII 233mhz and 96mb ram)?
and by the way on a slightly unrelated note can you play open arena literally across platforms? like can players connect from machines running separate OS (windows, linux, etc) and still play together?
if so I'm totally going to get a few of these!
thanks
