iRex: something awesome this way comes

All we have right now is an ominous, glowing shape that might represent an e-reader of some sort and the promise (threat?) that "Seeing Is Believing." Following on the heels of Sony's vague e-book announcement, it seems that the folks at iRex also have something big planned. Sony will be keeping quiet until October 2, but over at iRex the bomb drops Monday.

This act of "wait until posted date" will eventually go the way of quick time events in games if companies keep using this same ploy.

eBook with backlit is finally coming :)
Plothole @ Sep 19th 2008 2:39AM
Ebook readers with backlights already exist. However none of them use eInk, and none ever will. That's because unlike LCD, eInk is completely opaque. So light cannot be shined through it.

Well there's a place to not park your stock money.
Ian @ Sep 18th 2008 10:47PM
Coloured e-Ink is coming?
Wwhat @ Sep 19th 2008 1:27PM
To a copy of your local esquire.
Spencer @ Sep 18th 2008 10:53PM
It's the next generation iLiad, with a 10 inch screen, for $650. $100 extra for tablet input, and $100 extra again if you want WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G Data.
It's going to be a few years before we see colour screens, and backlit e-ink screens are physically impossible. (You can side-light them, though).

Why is it iRex and not T-Rex?
ssrat_ @ Sep 18th 2008 11:42PM
If that turns out to be the price then there is NO chance I will be even thinking about it.
THIS is the reason I have been looking at the netbooks to be my reader, all I need now is an easy way to add an external touchscreen to whatever 10" I pick up and I am done
For a reader it SHOULD have a touchscreen by default and I think basic wi-fi as well (hell it costs no more than $5 for them to add it)
Adam @ Sep 19th 2008 12:34AM
I thought Apple trademarked the 'i' so nobody else could use it?
And if not, can't companies be a little more original than sticking lowercase i's in front of unrelated, one syllable words?
Wwhat @ Sep 19th 2008 1:29PM
No intel was the one who tried to copyright the i as the-one-that-is-me recalls reading,
Nick @ Sep 19th 2008 7:12AM
Wait, Hang-on!
Are you sure this is not just an advert for HEROES Season 3. LOL
ISO Nazi @ Sep 19th 2008 6:03PM
Why would they announce something that's coming in 2022 already?
