Thinkpad X200t and X200s announced
Lenonvo's ThinkPad X200t tablet finally made the trip Stateside after hiding out in Hong Kong for the past few weeks, and it's brought a little friend with it -- the X200s laptop. As expected, the X200t replaces the X61t, and specs for the new machines are right in line with that transition: available processors range from a 1.2GHz SU9300 Core 2 Duo to a 1.86GHz SL9400 chip, RAM maxes out a 4GB, there's a 128GB Samsung SSD option, graphics are integrated GMA 4500MHD, and WWAN, WiMAX and UWB are optional. Notable changes from the X61t in particular include a dual swivel hinge, an LED backit 1280 x 800 screen, and claimed 50% improvement in battery life to 15 hours, reduced touch pressure with a Wacom digitizer, and built-in GPS when the WWAN option is ordered. Prices should start at $2325 when these start going out in October, less for the X200s -- we'll have a hands-on for you ASAP, but there's a vid after the break to hold you over.

No high res option for the tablet like they did for the X61T?
SXGA+ was one of the main reasons I went for the X61T
Sinnix @ Sep 18th 2008 11:28PM
Yeah, me too. Although, I'm not entirely surprised. Almost everyone who tries to use my notebook complains about everything being too small.
ynohtna @ Sep 19th 2008 12:03AM
Agreed, 1440x900 LED please and normal voltage cpu options!
Phil @ Sep 18th 2008 7:04PM
Why so expensive??????
Weren't the X61t models like 1500? Geez
moomooranch @ Sep 18th 2008 7:45PM
Low voltage processors use more exotic parts.
diode3diode @ Sep 18th 2008 7:56PM
Actually it's still around $2k, it's on SALE* for $1346.03 with 33% off.
If Lenovo stays true to its SALE* then we can see a price roughly around $1600 by first quarter '09.
Bráulio Barros de Oliveira @ Sep 18th 2008 7:37PM
can't wait for it!
BOGRASH @ Sep 18th 2008 7:48PM
what happened to $1299?
Andrew Fong @ Sep 18th 2008 8:05PM
It's actually 10 hours battery life according to the video, not 15
Sparta @ Sep 19th 2008 1:04AM
I was wondering where the 15 hours came from; it's 10hrs in the vid and 13hrs in the article.
NoAndThen @ Sep 18th 2008 8:17PM
people complain about Apple hardware being expensive? Jesus.
Look at the specs your actually getting here folks. All the x4500 in the world won't make a 1.2GHz chip handle high def any easier.
José @ Sep 18th 2008 8:38PM
These are __business__ notebooks. They don't even have integrated optical drives, nor DVI/Displayport.an entertainment

hm, i ordered an x200 the day it came out, like 3 weeks ago - just got the darn thing last week and now there's an upgrade? (the s model, don't care about the tablet) - not seeing exactly what the diff is between the x200s and the x200, can someone explain - thank you
.
José @ Sep 18th 2008 8:31PM
The differences between the x200 and x200s are here:

The x200s is a slimmer and lighter version of the x200, and it has a lower voltage, less powerful processor.

So we're going to pay $1500 for a laptop that doesn't even have a propper trackpad...I'll pass.
cromas @ Sep 18th 2008 9:44PM
Many people feel the same way, if not more strongly, about trackpoints. They are one of the several big reasons I stay with Thinkpads when I would otherwise buy a MBP.
BChau @ Sep 18th 2008 9:44PM
Amazing spec! It has the Wacom pressure sensitive touch screen and tablet. Great for design and artwork. You can draw directly on the screen. I want one.
William @ Sep 18th 2008 9:47PM
Capacitive tocuhscreen?
dc @ Sep 18th 2008 10:43PM
Capacitive? That wouldn't work with the Wacom digitizer... most likely resistive. Are there capacitive tablets out there?
It is very pricey... jeez I was thinking of $1200 to $1500. I guess I'll have to wait it out... and by then maybe Apple will have a tablet out.
As for the trackpads, I could care less. Trackpoints all the way!
dc @ Sep 18th 2008 10:55PM
Oh never mind, N-Trig (in the Dell tablet) is capacitive...
jasongao @ Sep 18th 2008 11:07PM
Been waiting for this for a while; I just hope it hits the educational channels soon, too.
merrykid @ Sep 18th 2008 11:17PM
is there an IBM logo?
error2k2 @ Sep 19th 2008 2:01AM
Holy crap, I want this...
I also want the money to afford this...
Technician @ Sep 19th 2008 7:52AM
I can see that soon after many laptop makers out there to follow Lenovo to make touch screen tablets. Lenovo was the first to make biometric facial recognition, then some companies starting to follow, then Lenovo was the first to have anti-bacterial keyboard, now some companies are also following. I just wonder when people when follow Lenovo in roll cage and airbag technology.

Hehe, looking forward to a "Thinkairbag."
