It's a common issue, really. Having to peel that
sticky, icky silicone skin from the Wiimote each time you try to swap out the batteries or plop it down in a
recharging station is a real pain, but TeknoCreations has a better way. By utilizing a contactless induction charging system, its InCharge remote charger can actually reinvigorate Lithium Polymer battery packs that are encased within those newfangled silicone grips that the Big N recommends so heavily. The system reportedly offers a 25-hour battery life, and unlike contact-based chargers, the aforementioned dirt and grit won't gum up the juicing process. The InCharge Wiimote charger should be available real soon for $34.99, and for PS3 owners feeling all left out, fret not -- the company just received certification to go forward with a similar product for the SIXAXIS.

Does anybody over the age of 10 actually use the silicon grip?
I never even took mine out of the box. Same goes for the strap.
Magallanes @ Sep 19th 2008 8:59AM
I use the strap but the "condom".
BigAfromSalford @ Sep 19th 2008 9:00AM
Yes lots of people over the age of 10 use the grip.
I LOVE THE CAPS LOCK KEY @ Sep 19th 2008 11:20PM
This is noting new. Sanyo's eneloop system allows for the same thing.

"...the company just received certification to go forward with a similar product for the SIXAXIS."
There are controllercondoms for the Sixaxis controllers?
Muhammad-Oli @ Sep 19th 2008 8:40AM
Pffffft. Who would put that ugly-assed silicon thing on their Wii-mote anyway?
Muhammad-Oli @ Sep 19th 2008 8:41AM
It seems I was beaten to it. Damn engadget and its not-showing-comments-even-though-they're-there feature.
mont @ Sep 19th 2008 8:53AM
Hey Engadget and friends.. its 'SILICONE' NOT 'SILICON' ! I guess you will be storing them in your 'chester drawers' too?
chefgon_ign @ Sep 19th 2008 8:59AM
1) Take off hideous controller sleeve
2) Throw in garbage
3) Never speak of it again
Darkroom @ Sep 19th 2008 9:42AM
i totally use the silicon cover myself... not the strap though...
why is everyone freaking out over the wiimote silicon cover while this charger is the size of my fat ass?
blizz419 @ Sep 19th 2008 9:15AM
real rechargeable batteries FTW! all these battery packs seem like garbage i've yet to see any that are like 2500 Mah gimmie brake with this 1100 Mah and the like garbage
Byron Jacob @ Sep 19th 2008 9:15AM
You say chuck it but if it gets more juice into and use out of your controllers? isn't that a good thing?
yeah, it may look like a condom but if it says it means more time using it then surely then having a 'condom' is the downfall?
And people who own playstation 3's and use the Six axis controller given in the box will know the battery is a bit naff (doesn't hold a charge as long) casue unlike other controllers like Xbox, they are constantly switched on.
IsLNdbOi @ Sep 19th 2008 9:52AM
Didn't Engadget post about another one a couple of months ago that could charge four of them while in their skins?
Chadfucious @ Sep 19th 2008 10:05AM
Sounds great to me- I use the grip and the strap. There's no way I'm going to risk my new 52" lcd to controller slippage because something doesn't look cool...
I'll like not having to strip my controller to charge the batteries!
leo @ Sep 19th 2008 10:25AM
Hmm.....Remotely Cool
Muhammad-Oli @ Sep 19th 2008 10:32AM
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Wulf @ Sep 19th 2008 11:12AM
It's actually already out. I purchased one to go along with my mother's Wii for her birthday last month. She loves it.
EdgeOne @ Sep 19th 2008 1:24PM
The covers are a welcome addition:
-Keeps them from slipping out of your hands in heated tennis matches (sweaty palms).
-Saves the controller when kids take off the strap and fling it across the room on a rouge bowling swing.
-Wiimote-to-skin impact is far less painful (personal experience)
If you find no need for the straps or the skins, you're not experiencing the Wii as intended, or best enjoyed, imho.
Carl M @ Sep 19th 2008 2:23PM
Won't this gadget be obsolete as soon as the Wii Motion+ comes out?
Nate DiDonato @ Sep 19th 2008 5:16PM
@Mont - yeah I'm really sick of people confusing the two.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicon
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicone
note both have "not to be confused with" at the top?
BTW, why the hell would I want a charge station for my standard USB charging PS3 controllers?!?!?!
I plug them in, and they charge. I don't need a damn $35 charge station when I have a $1 cable that was included with the system.
...off to play Burnout Paradise with the new bike patch :)
yopopoy @ Sep 19th 2008 7:47PM
ahhh a Wii Condom charger! I use it when my pizza grease fingered friends use it so it remains somewhat clan. and @ EdgeOne your hands get sweaty playing Wii?! Woah.
tekdroid @ Sep 20th 2008 1:11AM
and the lord sayeth:
Man will get over his never-open-battery-cover phobia (?) and once again return to sanity and zero downtime, and this will all be accomplished with standard AA rechargeable batteries and chargers; cheap and in plentiful supply and for use by multiple devices in the household. Amen.
Man will never be limited by half-arsed proprietary docking downtime, nor will he pay through the nose for the dubious privilege. Sanity will once again reach the masses.

Okay, saw this, bought one... works great!
EXCEPT: The bright blue LEDs are so bright and don't go OFF when they're done charging, they flash, very distracting.
Other than having to find a place to hide it (unless I can use it as a nightlight in my daughter's room), great solution.
