HP's Pavilion G60-120US laptop tries on a 15.6-inch LCD
If HP's latest 16-inch notebook didn't grab you for reasons like: "That's a whole 0.4-inches bigger than my desk," then you're in luck, because for about half the price you can now pick up a Pavilion G60-120US Notebook PC -- HP's first 15.6-inch model. The G60, with 1,366 x 768 resolution display, comes caked with all the ho-hum features you might expect from a $629.99 price tag: 2GHz AMD Turion X2 dual-core processor, GeForce 8200M graphics card, webcam, DVD burner, WiFi, Bluetooth, ExpressCard slot and 250GB hard drive. On the other hand, it's got 3GB RAM, Altec Lansing speakers and HDMI output, weighing in at a palatable 6.06 pounds. Not a bad deal, who needs a lousy HDX anyway, right?

Seems like a good companion for student. Nice power for such a low price. I still dont understand why anyone would blow $600 on an EEE when they could get a "real computer" for the same price.
Adam @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:22PM
I agree.
Unless you really need a super small computer this one will be great!
HP makes good products!
JohnTitor @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:24PM
you and everyone that keeps saying that miss the whole point
netbook is 2lbs, this is 6lbs
netbook is 9" diagonal this is 16"
GadgetTamer @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:42PM
Well, i for one agree. When you can get a whole laptop for $600, why spend that on a netbook? I can understand $200 for a netbook, but those are VERY rare.
I'm looking into the Gateway P-7811 FX for my main computer, then something like this for a school computer. I move around allot, and have lots of LAN parties, and would use the Gateway for that. But for school, i would use something more like this. Something that won't break my back if i put it in my bookbag...
Flashpoint @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:53PM
Netbooks and small laptops really come in handy if you just gotta run powerpoints on projectors, or if you plan to do presentations from flash drives.
I am going to wait till December or Tax season to buy a netbook. By then, they'll have netbooks running CRYSIS.
hell, it took em just a few months to go from 4GB to 60GB HDD's and keep the price around $400 - $500
Zadillo @ Sep 23rd 2008 12:18AM
Because for simply taking notes in class/etc. carrying around a smaller 2-3 pound netbook that also doesn't take up a lot of space on a tiny desk in a classroom is a bit more convenient than carrying around a 6 pound 15" laptop (not to mention the power adapter/etc. which can add another pound to your carrying weight). Not saying it's the right choice for everyone, but if you're honestly asking why some people would prefer a smaller netbook even for $400-500, that is one of the primary reasons. One could also ask why there are people who are willing to pay $2500-3000 for the Sony TZ, and it's a similar answer, except they also want more power than you find in the typical netbook.
eiki @ Sep 23rd 2008 10:52AM
flashpoint, netbooks running crysis? we wish
last point is irrelevant as the 4GB models had SSDs and they still sell well to people who are just going to surf on them, plus the price is around the same as SSDs are more expensive to produce and more shockproof, although anyone who wants to use one as a media system has no choice at the moment: HDD it is for now
Radukk @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:19PM
AMD Processer + NVIDIA GPU ?
There's great HD 3200 for PUMA platform.
Why they don't with that?
1234321 @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:08AM
yeah, that was dumb
Chris @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:20PM
8200M, Arn't those defective? Or is it to underpowered to overheat.
egloskerry @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:21PM
I read "G60-120US" as "GORGEOUS" on first glance.
Reader @ Sep 23rd 2008 6:19AM
Too much leet speak for you my man.
rob @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:31PM
Is this more widescreen then 15.4" laptops?
Knives_Out @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:36PM
probably 1280x800 (standard 15.4) vs 1,366 x 768 (this)
iofthestorm @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:48PM
This is 16:9, 1280x800 is 16:10. At least they upped the horizontal resolution instead of going to 1280x768, but you're still missing out on 32 vertical lines, which I believe is the height of the windows taskbar.
Matthew C @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:03AM
finally- 16 9
WE should be seeing a lot more of these in the future. Hopefully they can get them up to a WUXGA equivilent - something past 1080p would be great.
Michael Scrip @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:31PM
I guess you need a 17" laptop sleeve for this?
GadgetTamer @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:42PM
Wow, a full keyboard and numpad on a 16 inch notebook, i wonder how they did that, REALLY small keys?
Matthew C @ Sep 23rd 2008 1:04AM
its wider and shorter, remember?
Chin-Poh @ Sep 23rd 2008 12:00AM
Its good to finally see an AMD notebook with a 16:9 display, only seen Intel notebooks with that.
vijay @ Sep 23rd 2008 12:05AM
Technically speaking what big deal in 15.4" and 15.6" ? Oh its a 16" screen? separate numeric key pads? and some extra weight.

Interesting computer size.
Jonny @ Sep 23rd 2008 12:32AM
The resolution is 1366x768. I work at a Circuit City and we got these in.
Looks a ton like their Compaq models. I'm guessing they're starting to use the same body. Which also explains the price tag, as these look nothing like the dv4/5/7 series. Its basically the Compaq with an HP namebadge and bigger screen.
216 @ Sep 23rd 2008 7:36AM
I actually work for HP and I can pretty much confirm that's what it is
Its the same body as the new Compaq models its just using an HP Badge instead.
Compaq is slotted as the value/budget brand within HP, and Im guessing that HP doesn't want to consider this pc a value/budget pc (you'll prolly see a more expensive variant of this pc come Christmas time if this model sells well)
Jonny @ Sep 24th 2008 10:52PM
Yikes. Speaking the new HP dv4/5/7s are very attractive, and the Compaqs are still pretty ugly.
This also seems to be the same exact spec/board from the Compaq that came out 3 months ago, CQ50-110US.
I thought it used to be use the HP got the better stuff, then the Compaqs.
This is the same exact CPU, mainboard, everything, just a slightly teensy weensy bigger screen and a number pad, and an extra 50GB. o.O
Knives_Out @ Sep 23rd 2008 12:40AM
I kinda miss the 4:3 .... sometimes.
Yubastard @ Sep 24th 2008 6:47PM
POW! *punch to the face*
Muhammad-Oli @ Sep 23rd 2008 2:51AM
Whoa, HP's latest 16-inch notebook didn't grab me cause it's a whole 0.4-inches bigger than my desk and would totally fall off! I'm gonna get one of these!
Bryan @ Sep 23rd 2008 3:43AM
Haha that funny I work at Circuit City as well. You hit it on the head. This thing looks like the new Compaq models. Compaq's have always been a little funny in build always having something different about them. Compared to HP's main brand.
Eric @ Nov 22nd 2008 8:08AM
HP owns Compaq that's why they look the same.
