ASUS takes Eee PC 901 for an HSUPA data ride
If you like the Eee PC 901 then you're going to love this. ASUS just announced an integrated HSUPA option for its 8.9-inch netbook. When coupled with that 7.5-hour (rated) 6-cell battery you'll have ample time to try and locate a carrier "in many destinations around the world" capable of delivering 7.2Mbps down and 2Mbps up -- ASUS doesn't say but we're sure it'll step down to older WWAN coverage as required. Available in October (just missing the September launch rumor) for an undisclosed price on undisclosed frequencies.[Thanks, Michael A,]

Is it the Xp or Xandros only?
power @ Sep 25th 2008 2:00AM

What about EeePC 1000H. Is is also going to get HSUPA ?

Are HSUPA and HSDPA cross compatible?
JohnM @ Sep 25th 2008 4:45AM
HSUPA and HSDPA are the same thing really. What really should have been said is that "ASUS takes Eee PC 901 for an HSPA data ride".
HSPA = High-Speed Packet Access
HSUPA = High-Speed Uplink Packet Access
HSDPA = High-Speed Downlink Packet Access or 3.5G
So as I'm sure you can tell, one is for upload, and one is for download. As long as your HSPA modem can handle HSUPA and HSDPA then you'll be fine.

So, I assume this 901 can use UK 3G networks, eg Vodafone's HSDPA 7.2Mbps Mobile Broadband?...
avester @ Sep 25th 2008 4:37AM
Not bad, if it doesn't cost more than 50$ extra, since most of us get a USB-3G modem with the data plan.

In Germany 2 weeks ago www.t-mobile.de announced the 901 with internal 3G for 399 Euros without a contract.
To bea available in October at various shops.

They've been out since the beginning of the week at Costco. That's Costco Japan. With Japanese Win XP Home.

I wonder how much they'll raise the price. I just ordered the Dell Wireless 5530 for my E4200 and the retail on that is $199. Now, that's marked way up, and it includes GPS, something this probably won't, but I can't imagine they'll eat the entire cost of the upgrade.

OK - This may sound dumb...but
Will ExISTING 901's be able to use this ?
Is it something that will plug in the PCIe slot under the back cover ?
