Netbooks have officially arrived
Thought that Atom CPU shortage a few months back was just posturing by Intel? Take a look at the top 10 list of best selling "Laptop Computers" over at Amazon. All but one laptop (the 13.3-inch MacBook) is a netbook and 8 of the 10 devices are powered by Intel's 1.6GHz Atom processor. Guess this makes it official: the age of the netbook has indeed, arrived.

Had the 901 now looking at the acer:)
You will not be disappointed in the Acer. I've got the sapphire blue with Linux and the 8GB SSD, and it's a dream. I'm typing on it right now. And I say the following with all the honesty in the world:
The Acer Aspire One is the best computer I've ever had.
It's small, damn good looking, pretty peppy with the included apps, and I've even installed Wrieshark for work and the GIMP for my pathetic attempts at Fark photoshop contests. The One can run both of these like a champ.
I say one again, to you and everyone, that you will not be disappointed with the Acer. There's a reason it's number one.
And to everyone that thinks the MBA is a netbook, STFU.
7/10 of the TOP selling latops use Windows XP
none of the top 10 selling laptops on Amazon use Vista
3/10 use a variety of UNIX!!!
Or put another way...
If MS have 90% of the world market and OS X about 9%, then the top 10 amazon list is telling..
I personally think the netbooks with an 8.9" screen is too small. I think at least a 10" screen is a good minimum size, anything less can get annoying. I bought an HP TC1100 for $300 on ebay. Although it is slower than most of these netbooks and older, if you just need it for internet use, its awesome.
Macbook in the netbook list = you're doin it wrong
RTFA = ur doin it rong.
Ahh, good old Apple-fan bashing. Nothing's changed since the dark days when a man from Pepsi ran the company and the Co. needed a good beating. I also love how what was surely meant to be a relevant post about how the top selling portable computers on amazon are almost all super cheap, turns into a thread of comments about hating Apple computer and their users.
All that love for the opposite computer users of the world aside, I'd like to make one point: DEPRECIATION IS A BITCH. That $1100 MB will be worth oh, let's just say $550 in three years, and maybe $300...in eight. So long as it can run a near current OS at that time.
How much is a five or eight year old equivalent WinDoze based laptop worth right now? Any guess?
This is Sean over at Box.net. While the history of netbooks - ones that are truly made for this age - are young, all the discussion and attention around netbooks reflects the intrigue gadget fans and regular consumers have for this type of device. Once more content and services get on the web and help people do what they need to do reliably, I think more devices like this will take off. It slots in nicely between rich mobile devices and what people have on the desktop.
My friend sent me this link and saw that my Asus is there.. yay!

Love my laptop
I wonder if Sun Microsystems is crying its eyes out...
