Supposed MacBook Pro redesign, meet Mr. BlurryiPhonecam
Look, there are a hundred reasons to think this might be fake. That janky right corner, the inexplicable "dock in the trackpad" conundrum, the odd lighting and the entirely-too-convenient iSight self portrait. Still, whoever made this has their finger on the pulse of the Apple faithful -- or pretty much anyone else that thinks Apple is long overdue for a MacBook Pro refresh. We've got Air-inspired curves, a touchscreen trackpad, aluminum and glass in the style of Apple's latest iMacs, and what appear to be separated keys, which have been slow in coming to the MacBook Pro holdout. Naturally there's zero info on who the source is, and we're expecting a "hah, I totally fooled you guys" to spring up at any moment, but there's clearly some pent up demand for this thing if the rumor mill is any indication.

the isight photo was taken in a mirror, the apple is facing the wrong way
aidan @ Sep 25th 2008 4:07PM
no, photo booth takes photos in mirror, but (as of the Leopard release of it) flips them to normal after taking. the viewfinder window should be in mirror.
dvsbstrd @ Sep 25th 2008 4:05PM
Actually, by default, that's how iSight shoots photos.
Backwards.
Gregg @ Sep 25th 2008 4:06PM
iSight always mirrors the image. Try it.
YesHone @ Sep 25th 2008 5:56PM
Ah yes, and the credibility of the taker is helped by that wonderful Apple store employee shirt, no?
Josh @ Sep 25th 2008 6:47PM
This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time. ;)
But seriously..
What's being reflected on the trackpad? No way there'd be a screen in it, that's just not Apple.
He's taking a picture on his camera, yet the photo is coming up in photobooth WTF?
Erik @ Sep 25th 2008 7:45PM
@Josh
It says in the article that we're supposed to be looking at a touchscreen trackpad.
Zach @ Sep 26th 2008 1:22AM
Actually when you take a picture in photobooth its mirrored.
Phoenix @ Sep 26th 2008 8:09AM
Josh you moron. He's using his phone camera to take a picture. The iSight thing is the veiw from the camera showing him taking the picture
geoff @ Sep 25th 2008 3:54PM
Too bad the shot is taken from BELOW the iSight camera, yet he's pointing the camera down, instead of up.
matt @ Sep 25th 2008 4:19PM
the isight camera is facing up due to the tilt of the screen, so the image capture seems legit.
the dock in the trackpad, though... even if the trackpad was a touchscreen, that'd be a dumb idea.
rawhead @ Sep 25th 2008 4:20PM
Not conclusive. The camera just might have a wider FOV than the picture (i.e., the picture was cropped near the top).
I don't that makes the photo any less BS, but just pointing out a way around your logic ;-)
YesHone @ Sep 25th 2008 6:00PM
Uhm wow, I didn't realize the iphone had a Zoom feature, as that's a real close up shot for how frighin far away he is form the mac!
alane @ Sep 26th 2008 12:04PM
2 words: crop, resize.
Sarig @ Sep 25th 2008 3:54PM
I hope whoever responsible for the camera on those phones reads Engadget and feels ashamed.
jordan turpentine @ Sep 25th 2008 4:16PM
the angle the screen is at doesn't match the direction the iphone is pointing.
v3xx @ Sep 25th 2008 4:20PM
@ jordan,
nice one. the pic is taken from a low angle and the isight shows the guy up high.
btw i dont care for the black around the screen. looks like a zune in an attempt to make the screen look larger.
konshuss @ Sep 25th 2008 5:18PM
"isight" .. argh enough already.
Joe Rodricks @ Sep 25th 2008 5:21PM
hmmm.... on my iphone I have to press a button on the screen to take a pic.
Joe Rodricks @ Sep 25th 2008 5:26PM
Also... what are those huge words in the menu bar for photobooth?
And why is the dock magnified without a finger over the touchpad? That's not how Apple would implement that.
Stephen Wilson @ Sep 25th 2008 5:53PM
@Joe Rodricks
With Snapture you can take the photo by pressing the volume buttons, but still this picture looks horribly fake.
HunterXI @ Sep 25th 2008 5:51PM
I'll bet anything that those menu bar items are things like "Versioning" and "Performance". Although, I suppose they could the the German language-equivalents of said items.
YesHone @ Sep 25th 2008 5:51PM
Okat, so he took a picture of the mac with the isight camera showing him... I'll be impressed when there's a mirror behind him and we get a 3rd perspective...
Oh, and he need to lift up his shirt and write "Mac Fan 9/25/08" in big permanent marker on his chest!
HunterXI @ Sep 25th 2008 5:58PM
Yeah, I take that back, those are the Photo Booth Menu Bar items as shown in German.

a ham sandwich @ Sep 25th 2008 6:15PM
what do you mean?! EVERYONE reads engadget! :D
TJ @ Sep 25th 2008 7:00PM
actually, for those who think he is not taking a picture, try counting. Unless he is short one finger the his index finger is hidden behind the bottom of the phone in prime position to push the on screen button.
who? @ Sep 25th 2008 10:36PM
"hmmm.... on my iphone I have to press a button on the screen to take a pic."
But you barely need to tap the screen, it's so sensitive. I see three fingers- two hangin' out front, one holding the phone up, and one (supposedly) touching the screen.
Fahad @ Sep 25th 2008 3:54PM
kinda reminds me of the time i saw the fatty nano blurry pics for some reason
xValentine @ Sep 26th 2008 12:58AM
Another rumor that will most likely end up to be true.
Just like the Fat Nano, the iPhone 3G, and the 4th Gen Nano.
Jacksfilms @ Sep 25th 2008 3:56PM
Holy touchscreen trackpad, Batman!
Dunno how that could be real, but hey, who knows?
Najakwa @ Sep 25th 2008 4:18PM
I know its easy to hide the dock, but how would leopard force the dock into a trackpad in its current state? I guess its feesable with an update, but it removes the entire functionality of the updated Leopard dock and stacks.
ethana2 @ Sep 25th 2008 4:57PM
I used a dock before I discovered window-picker-applet..
I'd mock Apple for putting something at the /bottom/ of the screen, but thinking way back I remember that's how my 1420n came too..
steven haskayne @ Sep 25th 2008 3:57PM
I so hope this is real, that is an amazing idea with the dock in the glass track pad.
Not sure why apple would opt for a black surround around the screen?!?! Still beautiful fake if it is, if not, ill have one on release day!!!
Josh @ Sep 25th 2008 4:07PM
Dock on the touchpad would be idiotic. It would take functionality away rather than add in my opinion.
Also, black around the screen make the image seem more vibrant. If you notice, it is what they are doing for every Apple product now. iMacs, iPhone, iPod touch, and to a lesser extent the iPod classic and iPod nano.
Andrew @ Sep 25th 2008 4:20PM
Dock in the trackpad could be idiotic, or it could be genius. It is actually a compelling idea worth exploring. If this is a fake, someone should have diverted their talents to better use.
pito189 @ Sep 25th 2008 4:24PM
What you mean like on the how they did on the new iMacs.
Pete99 @ Sep 25th 2008 3:57PM
I quite like the idea of a front loading DVD drive, and there seems to be alot of space around the keyboard aswell. But a dock in the trackpad!?
Also isnt the macbook due for more of an update than the MBP?
betafrog @ Sep 25th 2008 5:16PM
MacBook Pro is 6 years old...
MacBook is 4...
sabih @ Sep 25th 2008 4:21PM
I think the macbook pro design has been around since the powerbook g4 days, which superceeds the life of the macbook
Rizwan Alvi @ Sep 25th 2008 3:58PM
What exactly is that on the trackpad?
JJV @ Sep 25th 2008 4:02PM
A dock....
DerekJ @ Sep 25th 2008 3:58PM
We should just look at this as an example of what we want. I wish all the blurryphone fakers would just make their best mockup...they'd get much more respect that way.
stevereportdotcom @ Sep 25th 2008 3:59PM
If that is indeed a LCD trackpad, I want one.
bear @ Sep 25th 2008 3:59PM
looks pretty real to me....
lolec @ Sep 25th 2008 4:00PM
The idea of a glass trackpad is cool, it can look great with aluminum under it . The idea of having the dock in a mini screen there is just ridiculous.
TareX @ Sep 25th 2008 4:06PM
It's a bad idea, because:
1) You'd have to shift your eyes between the huge screen (huge for nothing, apparently) and the trackpad.
2) Trackpad won't be wide enough to accommodate all icons within reasonable size.
3) Your finger could easily hit an icon while scrolling.
Not every Apple new idea is a good one.
JJV @ Sep 25th 2008 4:17PM
@ TareX
How do you know it doesnt deactivate when you use the other part of the mouse and are scrolling or miving your fingers around?
its not like apple wouldnt have thought of that....
imagine the iPhone proximity sensor but in your computer. Detects when you are there or not...
Decoy @ Sep 25th 2008 6:10PM
New idea, like the Nintendo DS?
Alex @ Sep 25th 2008 4:00PM
If it's so obvious that this is fake, why are you posting it?
dagamer34 @ Sep 25th 2008 4:29PM
Engadget needs to fill it's "funnies" quota for the day.
