Supposed MacBook Pro redesign, meet Mr. BlurryiPhonecam
Look, there are a hundred reasons to think this might be fake. That janky right corner, the inexplicable "dock in the trackpad" conundrum, the odd lighting and the entirely-too-convenient iSight self portrait. Still, whoever made this has their finger on the pulse of the Apple faithful -- or pretty much anyone else that thinks Apple is long overdue for a MacBook Pro refresh. We've got Air-inspired curves, a touchscreen trackpad, aluminum and glass in the style of Apple's latest iMacs, and what appear to be separated keys, which have been slow in coming to the MacBook Pro holdout. Naturally there's zero info on who the source is, and we're expecting a "hah, I totally fooled you guys" to spring up at any moment, but there's clearly some pent up demand for this thing if the rumor mill is any indication.

the isight photo was taken in a mirror, the apple is facing the wrong way
no, photo booth takes photos in mirror, but (as of the Leopard release of it) flips them to normal after taking. the viewfinder window should be in mirror.
Actually, by default, that's how iSight shoots photos.
Backwards.
iSight always mirrors the image. Try it.
Ah yes, and the credibility of the taker is helped by that wonderful Apple store employee shirt, no?
This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time. ;)
But seriously..
What's being reflected on the trackpad? No way there'd be a screen in it, that's just not Apple.
He's taking a picture on his camera, yet the photo is coming up in photobooth WTF?
@Josh
It says in the article that we're supposed to be looking at a touchscreen trackpad.
Actually when you take a picture in photobooth its mirrored.
Josh you moron. He's using his phone camera to take a picture. The iSight thing is the veiw from the camera showing him taking the picture
Too bad the shot is taken from BELOW the iSight camera, yet he's pointing the camera down, instead of up.
the isight camera is facing up due to the tilt of the screen, so the image capture seems legit.
the dock in the trackpad, though... even if the trackpad was a touchscreen, that'd be a dumb idea.
Not conclusive. The camera just might have a wider FOV than the picture (i.e., the picture was cropped near the top).
I don't that makes the photo any less BS, but just pointing out a way around your logic ;-)
Uhm wow, I didn't realize the iphone had a Zoom feature, as that's a real close up shot for how frighin far away he is form the mac!
2 words: crop, resize.
I hope whoever responsible for the camera on those phones reads Engadget and feels ashamed.
the angle the screen is at doesn't match the direction the iphone is pointing.
@ jordan,
nice one. the pic is taken from a low angle and the isight shows the guy up high.
btw i dont care for the black around the screen. looks like a zune in an attempt to make the screen look larger.
"isight" .. argh enough already.
hmmm.... on my iphone I have to press a button on the screen to take a pic.
Also... what are those huge words in the menu bar for photobooth?
And why is the dock magnified without a finger over the touchpad? That's not how Apple would implement that.
@Joe Rodricks
With Snapture you can take the photo by pressing the volume buttons, but still this picture looks horribly fake.
I'll bet anything that those menu bar items are things like "Versioning" and "Performance". Although, I suppose they could the the German language-equivalents of said items.
Okat, so he took a picture of the mac with the isight camera showing him... I'll be impressed when there's a mirror behind him and we get a 3rd perspective...
Oh, and he need to lift up his shirt and write "Mac Fan 9/25/08" in big permanent marker on his chest!
Yeah, I take that back, those are the Photo Booth Menu Bar items as shown in German.

what do you mean?! EVERYONE reads engadget! :D
actually, for those who think he is not taking a picture, try counting. Unless he is short one finger the his index finger is hidden behind the bottom of the phone in prime position to push the on screen button.
"hmmm.... on my iphone I have to press a button on the screen to take a pic."
But you barely need to tap the screen, it's so sensitive. I see three fingers- two hangin' out front, one holding the phone up, and one (supposedly) touching the screen.
kinda reminds me of the time i saw the fatty nano blurry pics for some reason
Another rumor that will most likely end up to be true.
Just like the Fat Nano, the iPhone 3G, and the 4th Gen Nano.
Holy touchscreen trackpad, Batman!
Dunno how that could be real, but hey, who knows?
I know its easy to hide the dock, but how would leopard force the dock into a trackpad in its current state? I guess its feesable with an update, but it removes the entire functionality of the updated Leopard dock and stacks.
I used a dock before I discovered window-picker-applet..
I'd mock Apple for putting something at the /bottom/ of the screen, but thinking way back I remember that's how my 1420n came too..
I so hope this is real, that is an amazing idea with the dock in the glass track pad.
Not sure why apple would opt for a black surround around the screen?!?! Still beautiful fake if it is, if not, ill have one on release day!!!
Dock on the touchpad would be idiotic. It would take functionality away rather than add in my opinion.
Also, black around the screen make the image seem more vibrant. If you notice, it is what they are doing for every Apple product now. iMacs, iPhone, iPod touch, and to a lesser extent the iPod classic and iPod nano.
Dock in the trackpad could be idiotic, or it could be genius. It is actually a compelling idea worth exploring. If this is a fake, someone should have diverted their talents to better use.
What you mean like on the how they did on the new iMacs.
I quite like the idea of a front loading DVD drive, and there seems to be alot of space around the keyboard aswell. But a dock in the trackpad!?
Also isnt the macbook due for more of an update than the MBP?
MacBook Pro is 6 years old...
MacBook is 4...
I think the macbook pro design has been around since the powerbook g4 days, which superceeds the life of the macbook
What exactly is that on the trackpad?
A dock....
We should just look at this as an example of what we want. I wish all the blurryphone fakers would just make their best mockup...they'd get much more respect that way.
If that is indeed a LCD trackpad, I want one.
looks pretty real to me....
The idea of a glass trackpad is cool, it can look great with aluminum under it . The idea of having the dock in a mini screen there is just ridiculous.
It's a bad idea, because:
1) You'd have to shift your eyes between the huge screen (huge for nothing, apparently) and the trackpad.
2) Trackpad won't be wide enough to accommodate all icons within reasonable size.
3) Your finger could easily hit an icon while scrolling.
Not every Apple new idea is a good one.
@ TareX
How do you know it doesnt deactivate when you use the other part of the mouse and are scrolling or miving your fingers around?
its not like apple wouldnt have thought of that....
imagine the iPhone proximity sensor but in your computer. Detects when you are there or not...
New idea, like the Nintendo DS?
If it's so obvious that this is fake, why are you posting it?
Engadget needs to fill it's "funnies" quota for the day.
but, but this ain't funny... its just sad
I don't know, it's sort of fun. Everyone chimes in with their critique of the product, of the 'spy' shot, or explain why they think it's faked. It's like the old "how many things are wrong with this picture" from childhood.
exactly, check out the *horrible* job at creating the front edge.. The whole left side looks like a big photoshop clone stamp smear!
well it does look like the t-mobile "leak" awhile back, so I believe this is what the casing will look like. Doubt there will be a Touchscreen Trackpad, unless its an add-on
Fake since he only took one single photo.
Further to the above ^^^
As-if any self-respecting 'insider' would have a 1st gen iPhone! lol ;-)
I really hope we get some information soon. I'm tired of these kinds of stories, I really want a Pro. But have to wait till I get some REAL information.
I like the idea of having some sort of 'soft buttons' like the Optimus Prime keyboard, but using a touchpad instead of the physical OLED buttons... I can't work out how one would actually use a dock in the trackpad without triggering apps all the time by mistake (unless it's a multitouch finger combo to bring it up).
I would much rather have had a couple of rows of programmable soft buttons, using touch display tech from iPod/iPhone, and put them down the sides beside the keyboard, or put a top row of keys where the function keys exist on PC's... you could do some seriously cool stuff with that.
If you like the Optimus Prime keyboard, wait until you see the Megatron keyboard!
tha'ts a shiny trackpad
I bloody hope that's not the new MBP. That uses the Macbook Air keyboard. That keyboard is one of the worst keyboards out there. It's just so bad. Especially compared to the keyboard on the present MBP, which I adore.
No, it's using the sony keyboard, not hte macbook air keyboard
absolute nonsense. the macbook air keyboard is one of the best out there
I'm not so sure about the touchscreen-touchpad but it does give it the old Pacman Cocktail Table feel
i'd put my money on this being the real thing. it makes sense. and lately, the apple "blurrycam" shots have been accurate.
there's a watermark-image on the screen
you're a fake, baby
you can't conceal it
know how I know?
'cause I can feel it
These fakes just keep getting worse.
or better...
Full screen on Mac, about time! xDDDD
looks like they kept that awesome sharp front edge.
you know, you type for a while, and you get nice little lines in your palms from the notebook cutting into your flesh.
macbook and macbook pro, both the same issue.
Can't say I've ever had the problem... And I even have a plastic hard case on my Macbook Pro as well.
The picture within the picture is fake. I was just going for self glorification. but the comp is real and totally bitchin.
Wow that's about the worst fake I have ever seen. Come on now try a bit harder next time damn.
prepare to eat your words chump. its real.
That's too much... *drooling*
A subjective opinion:
The overall design looks horrid. The curves are too unsubtle, the contrasting aluminum/black is unpleasing to the eye, and the dock now located in the trackpad - just plain over the top. And am I the only one who's in love with the current MBP keyboard? Perhaps it will lean on me as better quality pictures are released. Or when I get one the day it comes out. /shrug
No, I love it too. It's been around since the first Alu Powerbook, and it's still brilliant.
thats an ugly notebook. hope its a fake
That's no notebook... that's a space station.
regarding size
If want to take a picture with the iphone ... you need to push the picturebutton on the screen .. but theres no finger on the iphone screen while the picture is taken ...
There is plenty of time after pressing the shutter button to move your hand back to the side of the phone before the picture is actually taken.
Yes, there is. Look at his left hand (right side, in the mirrored picture). He's holding the iPhone with his middle finger, while his index finger is behind the iPhone and (presumably) on the "take photo" button.
yes there is, the left index finger (behind the phone) you can't see it because the phone is in the way.
Fake or not, Its a good looking laptop.
An LCD trackpad would be great. It may not be a traditional dock. The icons could be for programable functions.
Too bad a multitouch LCD trackpad would add too much to the price and likely wouldn't come out for a few years when it could be done for less $.
the apple bite is on the wrong side of the shirt.
also. at this kind of angle do you really think we can see what on the touch pad's LCD? i doubt it, fake!!!!!
its clear by those two statements that you don't own a mac or read the comments above before you post.
I LOVE Mr. BLURRYIPHONECAM he is sooooo AMAZING!!!!!!!
I'll say its fake as well.. because the dock on the trackpad appears to be in use (some icons being magnified as if it was being used) yet there is no finger on it.
Just my observation
Besides, if I had that laptop in my hands, I'd take about 40 pics of it from every angle with a decent camera.. janky cellphone pix are lame.
the dock could be hidden and pop up with a gesture. you know apple must be trying to find a way to use the screen from the iphone/touch in the laptops to get margins even lower. I'm sure it's the most expensive part of the iPhone.
You know, this looks kind of like that other picture engadget had?
http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/17/new-macbook-pros-leaked-on-german-site/
Maybe there is something to it?
The curve of the bottom corner is different in this photo and the T-Mobile one.
In fact, this model seems very impractical, as it would affect the ports, unless Apple wants to have a hinged mechanism on both sides. On the MBA this is somewhat less of an issue, since there are a minimum of ports anyway.
Other than that, this is no worse than the Nano photos (3G and 4G) that many claimed were not only fakes, but bad fakes. The dock image on the touchpad does seem artificial. It looks like they took the photo first, then realized they had to exaggerate the trackpad image because of the angle of the photo.
That watermark looks to me like it says "Not for release" in a language *OTHER THAN* English. It definitely starts with "no ..." and ends with "...here else".
In German, isn't "release" == "reelse"?
It says "NOWHEREELSE"
no-where-else
watch it be real, and suddenly it will be beautiful just like the ipod nano
Why don't you like the MBA Keyboard? I switched from PC's and frankly after trying out both the MBP and the MBA keyboards I LOVE LOVE LOVE the MBA one. Much easier for me to type on. I Hope the Pro does use it. I'd buy a new one in a heartbeat.
yep yep yep finally someone with a brain. best keyboard in the game - to try it is to want it
Did anybody notice it looks like there isn't a button below the touchpad. I usually use the tap-to-click but I doubt they'd get rid of the button entirely.
Who took that picture, Bigfoothunter.com?
I like it!
I have the current MBP and to be honest I still think it's the best looking laptop around however I think this improves it.
However that said, two mouse buttons on the trackpad. Is that too much to ask for. Oh and fix the issues like the slightly warped top, not enough USB ports and the dodgy mechanism that shuts the lid. If they did that I would be satisfied.
