GPS, Mio's Knight Rider GPS now shipping to the hardcore fans
Anybody can say they're going to shell out for a Knight Rider GPS pre-order, but when the house party dies down and everyone peaces out, who actually keeps that order alive? For you, dedicated K.I.T.T. fan, your moment in the sun has arrived, as Mio's legendary Knight Rider GPS is finally shipping within one to two business days. William Daniels is calling -- are you tuned in?

It has been on sale at my local Radio Shack for atleast a week.
Keep your scanners peeled.
Does it have a Val Kilmer mode? (zing)
Knight Rider 2008 = crap. I also submit to the jury that the ridiculousness of Bruce Davison's "Beethoven" hair-do is worth listing among the aforementioned KR2008 abhorrences.
His daughter on the show IS hot, though. You gotta admit.
I really really want that.It would totally make my hyundai useful
lol hyundai
These have been in Canadian stores for weeks.
First time I powered it up I lol'd with the theme song boot
Mine arrived last Friday, it's awesome! I just wish it could make the turbo boost sound when you punch the gas to pass someone.
yeh we have had it in my store for like 2 weeks already lol wtf??
the new show is god-awful. i'm just glad this gps does not come with val kilmer's voice
I'm honestly a little disappointed with it. For one, the way William Daniels inflected a lot of the pre-recorded phrases makes it sound stilted when read out together as a set of directions. For two, it feels as though, aside from the voice and housing, Mio didn't really do much to make this feel authentic: they could have replaced the boops and blips from their stock software with the "touchtone phone" button sounds from the original KITT, but didn't. Lastly, the accuracy of the maps themselves leaves much to be desired.
Feels kind of like a missed opportunity to me.
We've had a display of this at Radioshack for over a week and already sold two. There is one phrase it says that sounds extremely sensual and gets a laugh everytime it happens.
which phrase? i work there too, i'll put it on
also, do you guys have the problem with the fucking volume not going down?
I got mine 2 days ago, and let me say it is awesome! I put it in my new shelby and it looks and sounds great. The only con is that it seems like the accuracy is a bit off sometimes, like it would say desitnation on te left when its really on the right? No sure, maybe I have to update or something. The voice is dead on though.
I like how the McDonalds is listed as a different category from the nearby restaurant.
I saw this at Radio Shack and the rep insisted on running a demo, I wasn't sure if I should smash the thing or deck the rep for turning it on.
Yeah, they're at Radio Shack already. Kind of let-down up close. Looks & feels cheap and the voicing didn't feel "responsive" like it was really talking to YOU. I guess that was expecting too much, but I'm glad I didn't pre-order.

WebOn, a lone crusader in a dangerous world. The world... of the Knight Rider GPS enabled pug.
I got mine earlier this week and it is awesome and accurate! This is the 3rd GPS I've owned, and Knight Rider branding aside, it's quite a bit better than my previous Garmin units.
Just tonight, I was using it in an area I was pretty familiar with, but wanted to hear the guidance anyway. I was taken on a shortcut that I didn't know about and neither of my other GPS units had ever suggested. Turned out it actually saved me from stopping at 3-4 traffic lights. The ONLY problem I have with the unit, is that it doesn't know my house. But my house is less than 2 years old and doesn't show up on any online map yet either, so I can't blame Mio for that. And sure, the voice sometimes sounds like words that are recorded separately and spliced together, but that's the way all GPS units sound! But most of the time, it sounds really good. Overall, I am very pleased with the voice work. It's fun to hear William Daniels guide you around.
I also love the way it's designed. It doesn't feel cheap at all. The shape mimics the nose of the Knight 2000 and the glossy black finish is really nice. Plus, its slim profile makes it very easy to slip into my bag when I leave the car. So far, I love everything about it.
Oh, and the new show ain't so bad either. Yes, the Ford branding is a bit heavy handed, but the tone of the first episode is very similar to the old series. It's a lot better than the TV movie this spring. I look forward to see what they do with this new generation of Knight Rider.
"are you tuned in?"
not after the last episode! ick!
Staples in Canada has had this for well over a week and a half.
thanx man
www.sexizlee.com
its avalaible for more than one month at The Source by CC in Canada !
At the source we've had it for a while. At our national convention in august we had the car from the old show there, and you could get pictures with it. I never watched the show, so I didn't bother with the picture.
But the thing is anoying while sitting in the store, it won't shut up, even if you turn the volume down, it will go back to "demo mode" and have the volume up again.
You can also set it to call you by name.
I usually recomend the garmin 255w over the knight rider one, unless they are a fan of the show.
I bought it for my wife as she is a fan. I have had several GPS units, including 2 built in (Jaguar & BMW) and 2 portable (Garmin IQue 3600 [2003]& Magellan 4250 [2008]) and this is the worst! It took 2 calls and 3 hours to get it to work properly and in order to get turn by turn you have to shut off William Daniels, the voice of KITT. So what good is it? No Bluetooth, no voice commands, no traffic info, very complicated method to set locations..... a totally inferior product as compared to what's available from others!
Yep we have had it in our store at the Source for well over a month. It's old news now
Does this thing have the original voice's in it ?
It would be cool if it had the "Kit" voice.
Like, "take a left turn" or "were almost there michael" would be cool :p
Amazon has it in stock for $250. Screw Radio Shack.
I love my Knight Rider! I love the voice guidance, feel, look and design of the unit! It could use recognition which would be killer and I totally agree on the turbo boost, but I have a feeling that it would be slightly illegal! Haha!
Radio Shacks have had this for a little while and I haven't heard any volume issues...but it also wasn't in the demo mode when I arrived. C'mon radio shack people! You should be tech-savvy enough to figure out how to take it out of demo mode!! To those who can't figure it out, go to preferences then over to Shop Demo and change the setting! It's easy man!
I don't have any problems with using the device, I figured it out in ten minutes...I don't know why some people can't figure out how to use it...I hope you don't have children because putting together a bike is way harder. Oh and as for the accuracy, did you enable the WAAS setting? If you didn't go to preferences then to GPS status and on the second screen click on WAAS. It's like night and day when routing!!
The unit could be much cooler with the following; voice command/recognition, more POI's, longer battery life a Mio pleather case to go with it! Oh and the new show could disappear and that'd be a-ok with me...tacky love story plot lines...icky bad...fast driving and transforming vehicles totally makes my inner geek smile.
Wow! K.I.T.T. as my GPS, I'm sold. My brother has a Tomtom and he got a load of celebrity voices from Navtones.com but I think when I get the Knight Rider GPS I will be putting his Mr. T and Dennis Hopper to shame. Navtones is powering the voice on the Knight Rider GPS so I know it is going to be good and the real thing.
Love It!
