When every company out there is cranking out the same 10-inch 1.6GHz Atom netbook, there aren't many ways to make your product stand out: the obvious trick is to go
low on price, but ASUS isn't messing with its profit margins. Instead, it's apparently going negative in the most adorable way possible -- check this hit piece on the
Acer Aspire One. If all these frowny faces are to be believed, using the Aspire One will basically be awkward and unergonomic for a short while, at which point you'll burst into flames. Not only that, but ASUS can't even bring itself to spell out "Aspire," instead starring it out like someone might catch them saying it out loud. Very mature. Still, if anything can revive our flagging enthusiasm for the entire netbook category, it would be one of these WINNER crowns packed in with every Eee -- now
that's a real differentiating factor, ASUS. Full image in the gallery.
Personally, I find that insults against your enemies/competitors/in-laws just work so much better if you can at least spell them right... I mean, c'mon... "Comparision"?? TWICE??
Adorable.
First you dilute your brand and now this?
i had an asus eee pc 1000h and i was happy but the speakers just werent loud enough, so i got an msiwind , and installed osx86 happy now
In addition to being significantly more expensive, the 1000H weighs 50% more than my AA1 (3.2 pounds vs 2.1 pounds).
I'm not gonna use a 3+ pounds laptop unless it has a faster CPU and a higher resolution screen.
My A***** 1 kicks Eeew's ass! :)
So...um...everyone here's just accepting the fact that this is a genuine Asus advert without stopping to question it's origin?
1000HA 160G 1G RAM with 6 cell is $429.99, the screen is larger.
900HA 160G 1G RAM with 4 cell is $349.99, it's more portable.
I think acer started a very very good trend for cheap price, that's what mini-notebook is mean to be priced, but I think ASUS did a good job matching that price.
I was seriously debating whether I should buy a mini-notebook AND/OR ipod touch today.
I call it cr@p until I find it in stock
Aspire One's Linux version boots in under 20 seconds and offers sd hdd expansion, the xp version has 1gb memory, and no real heat is noticeable. Besides the lies, Asus is comparing apples to oranges, price wise. $325-399 compared to $449-579. Their speed chart also seems to come from the linux ssd version of the asus and the xp version of the acer. I was thinking of getting a asus for my next netbook, but after this horrible ad I don't think I will. Give move marketing moron.
neither of them are as good as the msi wind though..
Hmm, marketing by making the enemy look awful... I think I've seen that before, but where?
Oh, yes, that's it: Apple!
Oh, and... apple should sue, they did it first :D :D
(for the sarcasm-impaired out there, no, I'm not a fanboy, I hate apple)
FAILED miserably.
Not only bitch, but misinformed too.
My Aspire One boots in ~20 seconds, not their claimed 45. Shutdown in ~10 seconds. Battery life is between 2.5-3 hours, not 2:17. Besides, comparing a 6 cell to a 3 cell is like comparing apples to oranges.
Very cute Asus. This alone would make me not want an Eee. If you have to bash another companies product just to make yours look better I don't want to be associated with your company.
If the Aspire One sucks so hard and an Eee 9XX is the way to go, then why did I buy an Aspire One instead?
Oh, yeah. It's significantly cheaper, has a normal 2.5" hard drive and all the netbooks have virtually analogous specs.
Great list. Very comprehensive.
