More purported MacBook Pro shots surface, we're still unconvinced
While that touchscreen trackpad MBP might've been a bit too much to swallow, the rumorists certainly won't be giving up that easily, and have returned with more intriguing shots of what may be (but probably isn't) the next MacBook Pro. Submitted by "Techno Minds" to modmyi.com, the pictures were purportedly gotten off an Apple employee on an Apple design team. The dock-in-the-touchpad has been done away with, but the trackpad is still black, as is the keyboard and the display bezel. What's new here is the black back to the display and a lack of those Air-inspired curves that looked so janky on that other picture. The thing that amazingly makes this all even less plausible is the done-up promo shot (after the break) with rendering and photoshop artifacts unobscured by cameraphone fuzziness. Oh, and there's no power button to be found on any of these shots. Still, we want.

beastly? come on now.
at least if it is fake, this person attempted to have some quality.
Quality? A 4:3 ratio display and a smaller trackpad than before despite the use of multi-touch trackpad. These are the worst mockups I've seen.
He's not talking about WHAT is on the picture, but rather HOW it is on the picture. different meaning of quality.
No, these are plain UGLY... Apple would never design something like this... Black top? Seriously... no indent for opening the screen!? no power button!? = lazy faker...
Malweran gets it...this image doesn't look like it was snapped with a camera phone in the middle of an 8.4 earthquake. Picture quality, not product quality.
Also, the tag line isn't even proper English... if Apple DID use something like that they would say "beauty meets beastly power" or something like that... none of this blend crap. Hahaha.
"A blend of beauty meets beastly power" Really?! That's a bad slogan even for a fake.
wow, these are not pleasing to the eye what so ever.I'm praying to God that those are just skins or covers on that thing.
Could be a colorware job... with a homebrew keyboard.
It looks worse than Dell's attempt to copy the old Apple TiBook!
I find it hard to believe that apple would be foolhardy enough to take one of the most stylish and aesthetically pleasing portables on the market and turn it into that two-toned mess. I pray they don't change the MBP to that because I don't think I will be upgrading past my Santa Rosa MBP if they do.
Ironically enough, the Dell Latitude D-series was butt ugly but the E-series looks great...
Maybe this website name should be more along the lines of...iGadget.com?
"Also, the tag line isn't even proper English..."
Though to be fair, this is coming from the guys that brought you The Funnest iPod Ever.
Yep, it's blatantly a colorware job.
Great looking though, as most colorwares are.
I can only imagine how much I would laugh if these were real.
I like the way it looks. It could be a pre-production prototype with some sample marketing shots. But of course, none of us will really know until this gets released.
Meets beastly power? Yea, that never would fly from Apple's Marketing Department
at least a week old........
I'm not an expert but they definitely look fake photoshop to me, but they look seriously sexy and desirable. If I had the money I'd buy one.
Still unconvinced ?
Those pictures might end up to be real just like the fat nano, iPhone, slim nano, etc.
And not to mention 2-3 days of massive new-MBP articles.
Pro, On-the-Go.....?
13" inch?... I'll but one. Pre-order. !!!
Man its cOLD in here...
hey dude it may be old but i would TOTALLY buy a macbook pro if it looked like this...
I don't understand what is taking so long I've been waiting at least a year. This is worse than the Bold fiasco of '08
"A blend of beauty meets beastly power."
hahaha too funny.
That would make a good match.com dating headline
A blend huh? Well, that question is answered.
HAHA exactly what I was thinking.. Did someone really believe "A blend of beauty meets beastly power" would pass as something that Apple marketing would EVER consider ? lol
The new MacBook Pro is so advanced, it powers on ITSELF.
It's not that, it's just that Apple didn't see the need to turn your machine off manually.
They figure no turns off their mac, they just put it to sleep. If you really need to power down/restart, there's always the menu bar...
Here's hoping I was being sarcastic.
We've found that people don't need the power button any more. What do people use power buttons for? Three things: Turn your computer off, turn your computer on, and reboot your computer when it crashes. Now, the first is no longer necessary because you'll never want to turn it off. The second one will also be unnecessary because you computer will already be turned on. And the third, well, that's taken care of with OS X. It never crashes.
But, some people still want a power button. We think it's a thing of the past and we've moved beyond it by default. But, we'll also be offering an external power button for $99, so you'll have the option if you really want it - but again, I don't think you'll miss it.
It could be like the original Mac Portable where you had to press the space-bar to turn it on!
or like the Apple Cube - just wave your hand over the power button and it turns on/off
@Joe
2 things
1)how do you get it on in the first place
2)I hope you don't have to go anywhere with that, because the battery's not gonna last that long
To those above (parent excluded):
Or it could be fake.
Don't you people see? It's black! And that automatically makes it revolutionary! The new revolutionary MBP is here!
LOL, looks like they where having some trouble with photoshop when they got to the keyboard, just look at it closely and you will see how Fake it looks, Also the Apple logo is just to damm big
the image "Pro, on-the-go" is a fake... its width is too large, images on the apple website (intros) are a bit smaller...
Also doesn't have a latch/release thing, which is a change for the better, I suppose.
The mechanism on the current MBP sucks majorly.
That's so weak. These guys aren't even trying anymore.
i hope the increasing apple logo size doesn't increase the already giant ego of it's users.
sorry, but you know its true. thats why you buy an apple notebook right? for the apple logo?
At least it doesn't make me an inflammatory douchebag like yourself.
You people who assume all apple users are stuck up snobs are just as bad as the fanboys.
And yes, I do love my macbook thankyouverymuch.
Pretty sure AnyKey just made your point...
@jmh: how would you have responded? Me, I try to ignore the trolls.
So buying a Mac for OS X never crossed your mind, huh nicko?
Also, if all Mac users have giant egos, then by your own example everybody who uses PCs are giant assholes. Is that about right? Hey, generalization is fun. We should do this more often.
I dunno who came up with that slogan "a blend of beauty meets beastly power", but it sucks. Just try and say it out loud, it sounds dumb.
I know, right? If they were going to go with an alliteration thing with the Bs, they could have said something like:
" A bold blend of bewitching beauty bombards beastly brawn."
But will it blend?
Beautifully!
I might be the only one here, but I think they are hideous.
YEAH, it just knows when you need it, and turns itself on! Thats' why it's so far out dude, it's like it thinks like a real dude or something, know what I mean man?
OH yeah, fake and dumb slogan too, this is NOT Apple's marketing at all!!!
Wow stainless steel bottom chassis? So how do you like your thigh?
Rare, well done or extra crispy!
You drivelling Apple nerds make me sick!
"oooh look at me, I'm gonna Photoshop a new Apple laptop and fool the world! he he he!"
yes,
because apple nerds are the only fanboys to fake new releases.
ever.
look at that little keyboard... At least the fake iPod Nano images were plausable..
Hope they are fake - they look like shit!
I think the guy just ordere one at colorware.
Black frame, steel palm rest and a custom keyboard en trackpad.
try this yourself at www.colorware.com
The size of the keyboard in relationship to surface that it sits on looks a little small. Seems like a lot of wasted space. Which leads me to my question. Why in the Hell would you waste your time producing fake images of unrelased products, trying to convince people that your images are authentic?
Power buttons are for pansy's.
I hope that's not how those things are going to look...they're so ugly! With the black keyboard and trackpad. And I don't care much for the black casing on the back of the screen. Gross.
Pretty good fakes... the Apple logo on the lid doesn't look right though.
I'm siding with Mr. B.
The Apple's proportions aren't right. It's too big - especially because this is supposed to be a 17". Proportionately, it's not right. See any image of a 17" where you can see the Apple insignia. Unless they made that much bigger...
It looks like my 3 year old Dell XPS with Leopard pasted onto the screen
what kind of pathetic loser takes the time to photoshop fake pictures of crappy mac laptops??
get a f'king life and a real computer. apple sucks
Is it just me or does that just look like a normal MBP from colorwarepc?
I am fairly certain any new laptops will be 16:9, this one is most certainly not. fake and a terrible one at that.
This is so fugly...and the keyboard is creeping me out.
Are any of you who are posting comments actually photoshop users? You sound like fools when you talk about photoshop artifacts, or your ability to detect a fake logo. Those are compression artifacts from a JPEG image. Any experienced photoshop user could create a fake image that is entirely undetectable. I am confident that this, in fact, is a real photo and is the exact model that will be released in two weeks. Who has the time to fake images? You all were convinced that the new iPod nano was fake too! You sound like a bunch of amateurs who are overly critical of a set of skills you know nothing about. And you'll feel silly when this model hits stores in a few days and you realize that these photos were a nice tip, and not some cheap ruse. Get a clue and stop complaining about the work of professional industrial designers. Apple leads the entire world in design innovation. And I'm not some fat geek sitting at my desk all day complaining; I teach a product design class and constantly refer to Apple as a model of successful design.
+1 Nice comment! I think you are on the right path! :)
i dont get why this person has two of them, seems odd
I hope you're right cause these are ugly :)
Funny thing is, I am an industrial design student, my lecturer is kinda fat (not so much a geek), and he often refers to Apple as a model of successful design.
Although its fake i like the black & silver combo :)
as an owner of a MBP, I really dont think this is real... I doubt that Apple actually put "beastly power" in an add....???
There's a reason it doesn't have power buttons. You power it on... WITH MIND BULLETS!!!
@YoJIMbo
Need I remind you on the new "funnest" iPod ever.
As for the laptop itself, I like the black bezel and keyboard. I'm just not crazy about the black back to it.
I'm pretty sure somewhere at Apple there is a rule "Thou shalt not build butt ugly hardware" this is obviously not following that rule. Plus that keyboard is way to small.
fake. aspect ratio of the screens is off. and i doubt apple would make an ugly two-tone top/bottom device. the MBP has always been the "silver" device of the line (save the titanium g4's), and black/white reserved for the standard MB. lets let apple do the talking...speculation is just that.
i don't think this is fake.
/me wishes it was all black.
can we call them "blackbooks?"
Come on Apple, hurry the f**** up!! I need a f***ing Mac for uni!!!
No new photos of Macbooks? ='(
IS this just me or is this some sort of shopped Voodoo Omen 133?
Not only is the aspect ratio of the screen off, there's no power button, and the "promo" render rather crappy, but the perspective on the screen in the photoshopped picture above is off.
It clearly turns on when your keys get close. Just like your car!
The new MBP's are going to have Blu-Ray drives. FYI
Pull that one out your ass did you?
This looks like someone took a current MB pro and had one of those companies paint the top case, keyboard, and trackpad black. I'm thinking the next pro will be a serious upgrade, cosmetically and mechanically. This looks like a fake to me, but I was sure wrong about the new nano, so we'll see.
Nice-ish work, however, on the top image, the Apple logo is too big on the black Mac. Brand guidelines would not allow for the logo to be this big. On the right hand Mac, the screen is too tall. If you closed that Mac, there would be overlap. In addition, the trackpad is in a completely alien aspect ratio to the screen, meaning vertical and horizontal finger tracking would not be proportionate. Which is something Apple would not endorse.
A very good effort, but not good enough. Here's a hint for all of you fakers, if you are going to write any copy, at all, on your fakes, get the brand guidelines and follow the rules.
I would by it maybe if the rest of it was black, but I still love the old aluminum silver design.
"Meet the new MacBook Pro. Beastly power, sure... beauty, not so much... but, will it blend?"
*buy*... oops...
I agree with MadMike way at the top there...just looks like a colorware job to me. and here is my biggest f'n problem with a lot of you: if you hate the product, why waste the time to come bash it! see the headline; if you don't like it, move on. Tools.
A single vanishing point. This must be real!
I guarantee this is fake. Why would Apple go through the trouble of changing the default HDD symbol on the desktop for a pre-production, testing machine? That right there screams "FAKE" to me.
The trackpad is ugly black, and the Apple logo isn't large and prominent enough on the lid.
How come these guys never have access to a decent camera in a well lit room?
thats really ugly!
i think its a mock up based on a early 2007 MBP because its got the disk drive is quite high on the chassis (behind the text in the first pic) the next release had it abit lower. so if its real its probably a different disk drive ....blu ray?
I didn't read all the other comments, but did anyone notice how small the disc drive slot is? Unless the laptop is like 30 inches, then it would make sense.
