Digital Cube Telson UMPC reappears, could break into reality soon

Before we go any further, we'd like to inform this here Telson UMPC that if Pandora can finally get out of the starting blocks, so can you. Today, we're looking at new evidence that Digital Cube (the handheld's new parent) could be inching ever closer to bringing this shockingly thick gaming handheld to market. Out of seemingly nowhere, images have emerged of the portable posing beside a USB 3D camera dongle (saywha?); additionally, we're told that it will pack a 1.2GHz VIA C7M CPU and feature a 4.3-inch display, 512MB of RAM, 30GB hard drive and Windows XP. Oh, and we're also informed that it'll be "released in October" in at least one section of the world, so we've got T-minus 27 days to see if that claim is legit.

Agree. Sort of: I get the starting blocks reference (horse racing,) but the 'so can you' part, not so much.

Just look at that d-pad. I can tell right now its the same kind they put on the games that come in cereal boxes.
while i like the idea, it seems a tad bit big for a gaming hand held, and small for a computer.
also ps1 emulation is a no go, due to the lack of analog sticks.

Well, do you want an slightly lower-performance ARM machine that'll run for about 5-12 hours on its 4000mAh battery or a higher-perfomance x86 machine that'll likely run for about 2-4 hours?

You can't really make a fair comparison without knowing battery life or price. I can guarantee that the former will be much lower, and the latter much higher for the Telson than the Pandora. Exactly how much of a difference exists is anybody's guess.

Pandora is guaranteed to have a very strong, active development community dedicated to it and its creators promise that the gaming controls will be top notch. The Cube appears to be just another Korean handheld gaming system so who knows if its gaming controls will be any good or if the open source community will give it any love. If it is priced well, it might do alright. Since it runs XP, you could probably install emulators and play homebrew that is already made for Windows as long as it'll run on these specs. I could use a few more details on this though: SDHC slot(s), sholder buttons, Wifi, touchscreen (I hope)?

That's what I thought. I HAD a vega, used it quite a bit (made a great GPS system and also was great for uploading photographs in the field and travel email checking) but it broke. I've been meaning to see if it can be fixed.

This looks almost exactly like it if someone squished it in the middle.

The main feature of this UMPC is THREE-D DISPLAY, I don't understand how do you managed to miss that bit out :)

Display is 800x480 parallax barrier, made by Master Image, and it comes with souple of 3D image and video playing software. In fact, I was about to write some post about it on www.mobile3dtv.eu
