Playskool's
Kota the Triceratops is a robot dinosaur that uses 11 sensors to respond to touch and sound by wiggling its horns, wagging its tail and turning its head. It also plays a few "adventure themed songs." Best of all, it can't stampede or impale anyone; like the animatronic Triceratops in
Jurassic Park, Kota can't get up and move around. That won't stop kids from adoring it though. Like
Pleo before it, Kota's cuteness overpowers all. Don't believe us? Shipments have begun, so you can buy the cuddly robot and see for yourself. All you need is 300 bucks. Or you could just check out the video beyond the cut.

Kota, self destruct in 5, 4, 3, 2....
zomg0t @ Oct 8th 2008 8:52PM
You're in luck! Kota can hold you and your girlfriend as long as your combined weight does not exceed 60 pounds!
Reader @ Oct 8th 2008 10:35PM
Guess you'll have to deflate and put helium in her.
lowdef @ Oct 8th 2008 8:06PM
land before time is for commies and lil' bitches. real kids grow up watching jurassic park
The Dude @ Oct 8th 2008 8:56PM
You forgot fascists and terrorists. Every Kota you buy helps Al-Qaeda.
So kids, when your parents buy that freedom hating dinosaur, ask your parents why they hate America. FREEDOM DINOS FTW.

I'd rather have the Little Foot version.
Mike10010100 @ Oct 8th 2008 8:07PM
...Not that it wouldn't be easy to mod the hell outa this design shell.
Think about it. If the skeleton can already support the weight, then it would be easy to install more powerful motors.
Patrick R @ Oct 8th 2008 9:50PM
i really like the way this train of thought is going...now i want one! just to mod it.
would that not be so awesome? i dont actually have an idea yet, but im sure when i do it will be awesome!
Ian @ Oct 8th 2008 8:14PM
this almost makes me want one to become defective and hear about how it smashed up someone's house and the kids barely made it out alive!!! almost..

Am I the only one who wants to fuse this thing with that korean power-suite?
"Contrary to popular belief... It was not an army of androids... but robotic dinosaurs that eventually enslaved humanity..."
miko34 @ Oct 8th 2008 8:33PM
This thing doesn't even move around the house. It stays in one place and makes stomping sounds.
For $300, you'd think it would move at least one foot per second or something.
Hell, we've had Power Wheels for over twenty years.
It's a good dino-step forward for having robots and I commend Playskool for having originality, but this is not worth the money.
What parent is gonna buy that for their kid when they have mortgages to pay?
Oh, maybe someone from AIG will.
miko34 @ Oct 8th 2008 8:42PM
Now this is what I'm talkin' about... and it's cheaper.

Would love to mod it to have red eyes and paint foam at the mouth. Also would like to hack it as to send it on a rampage down the street with a onboard cam to watch the drama. LOL the day Law brought jurrasic park to the hood
Mike @ Oct 8th 2008 9:13PM

Bloobie @ Oct 9th 2008 2:19AM
Don't they already have these on display at "creation museums"? Since, you know, pre-teens 5,000 years ago rode them around the playground.
Ryback @ Oct 9th 2008 3:38AM
You can buy one in the gift shop.
Joel @ Oct 9th 2008 3:21AM
I'm thinking some combination of moveable legs that go at least 5m/minute and camera controlled automated mounted projectiles. We will call them C-CAMPs. Like a very big version of these http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/warfare/a1c2/ except with more explosive ammo... send that down Broadway :D
Wasabi @ Oct 9th 2008 5:11AM
While fond of plastic leaves, Kota prefers to wash things down with a 6-pack of D-Cell batteries. Your kids will enjoy watching consumed batteries drop from beneth Koto's not-so-energetically wagging tail after being crammed through his mouth ten hours previous!
Reference:
"Battery Requirements
6 D cell batteries which provide about 10 hours of battery life."
Bjsfreaked @ Oct 9th 2008 6:08AM
Until it short curcuits and goes on a rampage.
Killer toy dino on large ^_^
trainwrecka @ Oct 9th 2008 9:12AM
it doesn't walk around? fail
Pauldy @ Oct 9th 2008 10:54AM
It uses 6 D cell batteries. So one could safely asume it does not actually walk. It would be a whole lot cooler if it did.
ZeroCorpse @ Oct 9th 2008 12:58PM
Combine this with RoboRaptor and you have the ideal dino-toy.
AJH @ Oct 9th 2008 1:12PM
Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Hasbro to investigate further. I can't get this stupid jingle out of my head. Argh :-)

Education can be fun and should be. My brother started out on 'The land before time' movies and graduated to Jurrassic park by the age of 6 years old. He learned more about dinosaurs from those movies than I ever did in school and even his teachers would have to ask him to read the names of the dinosaurs they were trying to teach the children about in first grade. He could read all of them and tell them anything they wanted to know about them. Blew me away. This is a great way to get younger kids into dinosaurs on a much more interactive level. Good job Hasbro!!!!
