Toshiba reveals "pink" Portege M800 to help with breast cancer, probably won't sell any
Look, we hate to be crude -- after all, you won't find any bigger proponents for bulking up the breast cancer research fund than the team here at Engadget -- but Toshiba might have a tough time selling its latest Portégé M800. We mean, just look at it. We're not exactly sure how it gets off calling this thing "pink," but the 13.3-inch machine will be sold (or just stocked) exclusively at Best Buy Canada for $799.99. As for specs, you're looking at a 4.6-pound chassis, 2GHz T3200 CPU, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, Intel's GMA4500M integrated graphics, a dual-layer DVD writer, Bluetooth / WiFi and a built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam. $40 of each sale will be contributed to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, though we'd probably recommend picking up something a touch less ugly and just mailing in a donation yourself.

Anyone else thinking the Geek Squad slogan is soooooo inappropriate right now?
Absolutely. Their "pr0n copy" reputation doesn't go well with breasts or cancer.
Toshiba: Because a laptop the color of your mom's nipples is the best way to show support for breast cancer research
I am not even gonna ask what made you think up that statement about someones mothers nipples.......
You can't say you're supporting a cause without doing something to actually support it. I'd imagine that some of the money from the sale of these computers will go towards breast cancer research...
It looks "girly" to me, not necessarily ugly. Although I'd prefer a more adult-looking laptop. What does the lid look like?
Im thinking if _only_ the lid was pink, then it would be more appealing to people (women). I could see that taking off. The vaio's at my work were pretty popular last fall because only the cover was colored pink, but they were too damn expensive :S
Looks like poo.
I certainly hope that's not any human's poo. What animal creates such a low saturated pink poopie???
Dude, you need to go see a doctor...
I work at a Best Buy in Canada for the computer department. I've already had five or six people approach me wanting to preorder this ugly thing. It'll definitely sell.
I'm sure this pink laptop has been selling in Hong Kong for a while, and girls do dig this shit.
man thats a hideous shade of pink....
I work at Best Buy and I can guarantee you these things will sell...A surprisingly large number of electronics purchases are made on color alone. The very fact that this is pink will get it attention which in turn will lead to sales.
well breast cancer is ugly so...
well played, sir.
It looks like a bottle of pepto-bismol through up all over it.
Dammit you beat me to it. It's like a combination of CRT-screen-off-white and Pepto-Bismol had a child then relentlessly took the ugly stick to it.
Yay for proofreading after posting. That sentence is the product of starting to type something, going to another tab for a few minutes, then coming back and finishing it up.
"Go Head. Use us."
What kind of lame motto is that? Hahahah
Ahead*
yea sure... "Ahead"..
That is the ugliest shade of pink I've ever seen.
It looks like human flesh.
They should of made it jet black and hot pink. THEN it would of sold.
Not to be too cynical, but i hope Engadget does not support breast cancer awareness month. The whole event is a publicity stunt that has a single financier - Zeneca. They produce the best selling breast cancer prevention drug Tamoxifen. Tamoxifen famously prevents 18 cancers for every 1000 women who use it. But shockingly causes an additional 12 uterine cancers in the same group of women along with 10 potentially fatal blood cloths.*
Instead of using breast cancer awareness month to create awareness about prevention of breast cancer, for example through dietary adjustments, Zeneca is just interested in making the highest profits possible.
And unfortunately, the good intentional of everyone supporting breast cancer awareness month are completely misguided and in vain.

Educated comments make this blog even better. Good job sir.
The reason I support Breast Cancer Month is for the survivors and those still dealing with it. I don't even consider the drug companies, just the actual people who have to deal with the disease.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is about awareness. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is not in any way supported by drug companies. They use the month to reach more people to educate them about breast cancer and how early detection can save lives. I would hope (and yes, this is naive) that the cause and not the colour motivates people to purchase this computer. Or as Engadget says, buy another computer and send in a donation to the breast cancer cause. If you are looking to increase your knowledge of breast cancer you can visit www.cbcf.org.
Why do Canadians need to have their own Breast Cancer "Foundation"? Seems kinda sketchy.
... I actually think it's pretty cute! As someone in the market for a laptop, and someone who enjoys supporting a good cause - this is a win-win situation for me. I think I will go check it out at Best Buy!
You should go buy it if you want to, and it is cute. It stands out in a crowd, not your regular same old same old black. I attend university and cannot tell you how many people come up to me on a daily basis to find out where I got this computer. I love it, it's light, sound is perfect, has a enough memory for my needs and most of all it is pink.
