First Samsung laptops showing up at US retailers

A few Samsung laptops have managed to make it over here in the past under the guise of other manufacturers, but it looks like the company's new Q310 model here is now officially the first bearing the company's name to show up at a US retailer actually ready to ship, and, as we had heard, only the first of more to come. There's actually two versions of this particular model available (at Newegg, at least), the $1,049 Q310-34G and the $1,249 Q310-34P, the former of which packs a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo T5800 CPU and a 250GB hard drive, while the latter ups things a bit to a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo P8400 and a 320GB hard drive. Otherwise, you can expect 3GB of DDR2 RAM and integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics on each, plus the usual DVD burner, built-in webcam, 802.11n WiFi, and a 1280 x 800, 13.3-inch display -- not to mention some of that snazzy red touch of color detailing.

I had a Latitude X1. It got stolen. YEARS ahead of the Air, and was even smaller. That was one of Dell's finest hours, and it was seriously overlooked.

My dorm-room can finally co-ordinate... Samsung HDTV with matching laptop :-)
andy @ Oct 17th 2008 4:19PM
No thanks... too little, too late. Plus I bought a Samsung HDTV, I hated the way it delays a couple of seconds to power-up.

You do realize that old CRTs, new LCDs and Plasma, and even DLPs all have boot-up delays right?
Does your car also reach maximum speed withouth first accelerating?
Poor, misinformed consumer.
Jack Storm @ Oct 17th 2008 5:29PM
wow if you hate how long your samsung hdtv took to start up you must hate most computers.
HyperHacker @ Oct 17th 2008 10:12PM
There's boot-up delays, and then there's stupidly long boot-up delays that are mostly spent showing a logo for no good reason. I don't know about Samsung, but my LG LCD monitor takes forever to start up, and then proceeds to display the LG logo for several seconds, which can't be turned off.

im a panny guy myself

I'm not sure how to feel about that... haha.
But it's good to see Samsung directly getting in on the market... though these specs aren't anything special.

Looks good, and the specs and price aren't bad either.

Samsung makes quality gear, and their stuff has good aesthetics and is feature rich. These are tempting...

Oh no! Hell's broken loose! the world is going to end!
So what, it's the technology industry, it's not possible to keep up to the minute with eveything.. oh look i just wrote a program to cure AIDS..
See Engadget didn't report on that one did they..
Ok, yeah that was a bad example, but it's probably not easy getting news from everywhere and updating every second.
HyperHacker @ Oct 17th 2008 10:13PM
I just hope they don't have the same guys writing the firmware as they did for the m510. *shudder*

I actually have this laptop, in Ireland we have a 4gb ram one, 160gb hard drive and intel graphics card, but it runs Fifa 09 perfectly, near X-Box 360 quality, not too shabby at all, €650 for it too, bargin!!

I just picked myself up the slightly higher model, its the one with the 2.26 Ghz processor , 4gb RAM but it aslo has an extended battery and NVIDIA 9200 with 256DDR3 Dedicated.
Savage spec , great size and i got it for about a grand.
Where did you pick your up ?

This laptop looks amazing even without the unbelievably sexy Asian models. ^^;

Im writing this comment on a q310. 2.4ghz with 4gb of ram and a 320gb hdd. its great. Really, reaaly good.
keyboard is crisp, hdmi output is great quality. pity bout vista but being preinstalled but ive tamed it now.
bought it for £700, though wondering if i could have justified the macbook.
Thomas Willis @ Oct 19th 2008 4:01AM
I too have a Q310. Certainly is a nice laptop, very fast and responsive even under vista and the keyboard is fantastic considering the small size of the thing.
But it seems that Samsung's QC is not what it used to be: I am now on my second Q310 after having one with a large dent on the screen's glossy coating obscuring part of the screen, and this one I have now has 8 dead pixels! Not sure I can be bothered to return another one though...

I have the Q310-asosuk 13.3 2.26ghz .1066 MHZ FSB.One of the coolest and good looking laptops around and u know what its cheaper and better looking with better specs than the other brand laptops which boast a lot and offer a little....
Q310....I can suggest u all to buy without worries....for I love it....
