I think you're actually getting more detail on the mitsu set, though I think its the fact that they used iron man thats throwing you off. He looks kinda s"softer" on the pioneer, and while that may look better in some instances its not as true to life (which I'm sure would be more apparent if we actually had a irl Iron man to compare to :) )
Im thinking of it as in video game graphics, sure some of the games have nice light bloom and soft shadeing, but in reality its there to mask the low points of the pixels themselves.
Seems like the Mitsubishi TV is simply sharpening the picture. Reminds me of the "Unsharp Mask" filter in Photoshop. Don't most HDTVs have sharpness setting built in anyways? You can probably crank up Sharpness in Pioneer too I think.
Nobody can judge this tv without seeing it in real life unless they have a better monitor and know that the camera taking the pic captured the dynamic range etc. properly.

why dont we see the new Sony 240Hz XBR's against the Mitsubishi? that would be the best comparison imo.
