We first caught wind of a
slightly revamped PSP months ago, and the long-awaited
handheld -- complete with a new,
fancier and in some cases
more dreadful display -- finally hit US shelves this month. For those that picked one of these up and have spent some quality time digging into the latest
firmware, how are you liking things? Particularly for those that upgraded, are you pleased with the new build? Are you being plagued with those mysterious screen
problems features? Could you stand to see a few more things tweaked for the PSP-4000? We suspect there will be quite a few mixed messages flying in this one, so let's get those comments rolling.
With all that technology, you want it cheaper? You got to be kidding me!
Make it smaller, I don't need a screen that big. Swap the stick and the d pad over. microsd instead of memory stick.
How about ..... fix the screen... again?
What you mean by again? The first screen was never broken.

"Put a phone in it for 200$ more."
Your joking right?
What I'd like to see:
Internal storage of some sort, while still keeping the expandible memory (perhaps even allowing micro-SD cards?)
Ditch the UMD drive - download movies/games from Playstation Store
Higher capacity batteries
Second analog stick (and make them gripper too)
Faster WiFi
Less glare (Done on the PSP-3000s)
Better screens (If possible)
GPS (So that a Google Maps-like application could be used?)
Make the price competitive (somewhere around £100 to £200?)
Perhaps a touchscreen of somesort/slide out keyboard?
What I don't want to see:
Phone (Pointless, iMo.)
Rumble pack - It'll only weigh the device down (See sixaxis Vs. Dualshock3)
Seeing as HTC are making the Sony Xperia X1, perhaps they could have some sort of collaboration for a slide out keyboard/touchscreen?
lol. nobody will probably ever see this. oh well...
Hardware changes:
Wireless G(I stream off my pc alot)
Internal storage of some sort(if there really serious on downloading off PSN)
Keyboard- either slide out or add on something
Illuminated Buttons
Smaller/integrated gps module
IR back
Someway to cut down on the smearing(everything made nowadays does not need to be so damn glossy!)
More ram(cant really ever go wrong there)
bluetooth (at least for the headphones plus for voice chat on-line)
Maybe some sort of cell tech, data only, for mobile gaming. Calling might not really work with current battery life.
Firmware:
Codecs especially DIVX( you already have it on PS3 you know people want it)
Flash 9
Something to throttle down cpu when you dont really need all 333 mhz(battery lifes not too bad IMO but could always be better)
PSN friends(this would be amazing)
messaging with said friends(see above)
Some sort of Ebook support(pdf or lit or whatever just something)
Ability to make a music playlist
Full screen on screen keyboard!!!
(i know most of this can be done with CFW i've done most of it but some sony support would be awesome with it)
Hardware i don't want to see:
Dont lose UMD! Sony has always had backwards comp. in mind(will never understand the newest ps3's dropping of it????really really dumb!!!!)
Dont add a second analog stick(see above)
Touch screen is ok i guess but i don't care for it that much(gimmicky IMO, unless keyboard thing wont work out. it would at least typing wouldn't be so bad)
rumble(waste of battery and i leave mine on the table and such at times and do not want it rumbling off of it, phone does it enough as is)
I have a psp-1000 and love it. was thinking about a 2000 when they came out but it feels too different, too light i think, and they are a lot more delicate(i drop mine all the time, friend got a 2000 dropped once and it was gone)
Flash 9 on 333MHz? :)
INTERNAL HARD DRIVE
That's the only thing missing, and the only reason I've never purchased one.
It does all the PMP/PVP tricks, but it's lacking the GB's to make it really work.
If the PSP had a 120GB HDD, either standard or as an add-on, I'd buy it at almost ANY price and chuck my Zune in the trash.
To me this is pointless, I don't care about PSPs that dont make any significant changes internally. Asthetically, there has never been anything wrong with the PSP, unlike with the orignal DS which was ugly, big and bulky. The last PSP I bought was a PSP-1000 and to be frank, if Sony continues at this rate, it will be the last. Just give us a new platform already.
Get rid off that damn UMD.
Make a screen with a higher resolution like 800x480, that goes even closer to the edge.
Give it at least 20gb of internal memory.
Add a camera that's good for both pictures and videos.
Add another analog.
Throw in some better speakers as well.
...OH yeah... build in a playstation 3 and make it bendable... yeah..
-freakin DivX support already
-Flash [high enough for YouTube atleast}
-higher max resolution would be nice
-SD Card Slot. Memory Stick Duo sucks, they're expensive and have small capacities.
-Remove all the buttons except the two bumpers and the on/off button[which needs to be modified, because the original is really flimsy] and make it all touchscreen[two analog sticks, directional buttons, X,O,/\,|_| buttons, adjustable for certain games, and qwerty keyboard when needed]
- A store, where people can upload there own games, such as homebrew, but it has to pass inspection by a member of Sony, so it doesn't allow piracy or anything illegal.
It's cute that you don't even understand why none of those will ever happen.
I think the PSP is a pretty decent machine as it stands, the 3000 model is no different, seemingly taking the small update route like the iPod's and what not. Anyway, to improve in terms of say, PSP 4000, I would add:
>Multimedia card reader (c'mon people, Sony aren't going to ditch their own format in an instant. Give them a transition period ;-) )
>Some sort of screen sensor and illuminated buttons (increase brightness in the dark, turns off using hand gestures/slipping in pocket etc)
>Inset the screen (to decrease scratches)
>OLED screen (and hence better battery life, less glare, more reliable screen all in one simple fix!)
>Better wireless options
As for a complete remake, they could do alot of new stuff, some major things being:
>Add a phone function.
>The only real reason to add a phone function is so that it would be easy to implement 3G or equivalent.
>Add dualshock, or at least haptic touch screen for some feedback.
>Make the SDK open source (linux?).
>Remove the UMD drive, distribute through PSN (possibly upload games to cloud storage if limited flash drive space), or Blu-Ray transfer.
>Include an SDD.
>Fully Interactive Internet browser (quake online anyone?)
>Add another movement source of some kind (analogue stick, multi-touch, accelerometer, etc etc)
>Up the specs (CPU, GPU, Ram) allow modding to overclock.
>Double slide out thingy (like the new nokia, one way qwerty keyboard, other way music/movie/game controls)
>Matte finish, down with finger prints!
Give it a high res screen -- at least 800x480.
Engadget says: "How would you change Sony's PSP-3000?"
Stop making it :)
Seriously.. PSP is a total waste of money. You play 3 games on it and then you realize that it collects dust since except for a few games, PSP is totally behind the times.
ok if all this was in the size of a PSP it would be the Jesus of all gadgets.
but since only apple specializes in quality stuff, I think the PSP should be made by Apple. same look, but not theshit that comes with SONY.
I am in a hurry, dont hate on my typing.
Phone
Touchscreen. multitouch you know it!
Apps
easy to mod
open source would be nice.....
speaker
mic
The only thing that sony got right was the awesome games they have. us real fans know that without Nintendo killer games like GTA, the sony PSP would be crap.
Nintendo doesn't play games with media. they are games and a couple apps only. I respect that.
If sony is going to have an all in one,
kill the sony cards, it's called SDHC now.
TWO thumbsticks
free engraving
custom engraving for money.
sony made interchangable plates. all colors, mettalic and matte. of course chrome and gold and what the heck those U2 ipod's had!
would oyu rather have 4 sd slots, ssd, or umd?
I dont know, but I do know UMD's are stupid. It wastes so much precious space!
Just sell SD cards in stores, and for the smart people, downloadable games to put on the slot.
The PSP is beautiful, I wouldn't really change the shape or size.
of course, accelerometer
IF they could make it a slide-out with the same thickness as the 3000, than yes.
Interchangable UI. its nice, be wouldn't an ipod themed psp look boss?
better battery life.
bluetooth
atleast an 8 megapicel camera.with video support. LG did it.... it should be able to rotate to the front or back.
bigger ram, atom?
3G
and TV tuner.
Can I get an Amen?
any other features to the list? I think I got them all....
Introducing the new
Ieverything ever
It is everything that you will ever need.
over 10,000,000,000,000 songs or 1,000,000,000 videos
lol
sorry
too
long
IT NEEDS BETTER FLASH LETS GET SOME YOUTUBE ON THAT BITCH!!!!
.OLED, bc I want to play outside and the thing to be THIN. I really really don't care about touchscreens.
.SSD + MS Pro Duo (16g + the optional 16g sounds about right, no?) obviously ditching UMD. Oh and encourage devolpers, we want a app store.
.CAMERA, 5mp + 30fps VGA video.
.WIFI and BROWSER should be improved.
BLUETOOTH should be there too. Sony with no BT does not sound right.
.CODECS and decent media playback? I want PLAYLISTS! Oh and subfolders, please!
.QWERTY (Arc slide X1 style, yeah!).
.DUAL ANALOGS, and maybe they can ditch the up/down/left/right arrows? An then separte circle/triangle/square/X, the way we'd have two on the left, two on the right bellow each analog. (That way you don't need that much space on the sides of the screen.)
.E-Mail client?
.Rumble and accelerometer maybe? A phone perhaps?
Maybe the next PSP will not be 4000 but just PS4 and will get the much anticipated overhaul.
It's not supposed to be a Mylo, guys. That's why Mylos exist.
I'd like 802.11g/n. b makes playing games from my ps3 dreadful.
Other than that, I'm liking it. Definitely beats the hell out of the launch model I upgraded from.
best fix - couple pounds of C4
they really need to throw the whole thing away and try something completely new right from the beginning.

Bring about world peace.
Considering the price and the state of technology, I think it is time to take off the gloves and go iPhone with it, including real-time video conferencing with other PSPs. And don't forget blu-ray. ;-)
Is there a way to use PSP's as additional clients in a local on-line game, using a PS3 as a game server? Or an MMORPG that can be accessed via a PS3 at home (Buffering content for better play), or directly via a wireless network.
Built in porn.
Browser that supports Flash video for crying out loud already.
they should use the new DVDs with the ridges on them like Vs so the surface is not flat making it have more surface area for more GBs
Hi!
I've been doing some research on the psp-3000, and I've searched everywhere, but I just can't find one thing : CAN YOU PLAY EUROPEAN GAMES ON A U.S. PSP-3000?
Thanks!
Dries
realistically, sony won't kill off the UMD drive. The reasons are obvious and substantiated and I won't get into most of them, but
remember that it's foremost a consumer gaming device, meaning that the technologically adept and inept alike should be able to enjoy it (mostly) all the same. All this talk about HDTV output, SSDs, 802.11n and the likes doesn't really have much of a market for a device already leaps and bounds more complex than its much more successful simpleton rival, the DS
One thing i feel novice and elite universally agree on though is the inclusion of a second analog thumbstick. How they overlooked this i'll never know...
Ok for the next psp design I think a few things that are feasible in order to warrant a purchase would be the following:
>If the technology is available, and would not have a detrimental effect on the final cost parameters of unit; a blue laser for the umd drive (that should be kept, for backwards compatibility, and to help prevent game piracy.) the blue laser would allow more data to be written on a disc of the same size as the current umd, this would allow for better cut scene renders, sound, voice acting, textures, and graphics
>Touch screen for onscreen keyboard, internet browsing and gaming functionality at developers discretion
>dual analog sticks. They could pop up when not in pocket (un locked position) and go back down when being put away, or in nub mode (locked/ ‘nub’ position)
>an application store for movies, music, games, flash, and divix support. This will leave Sony developers open to create new software experiences without having to spend resource time on compatibility with other preexisting software
>in game sound track support option on all new games
>smudge resistant finish
>TV out
*the touch screen could be used as an universal remote, to control all of your devices (download codes through the new faster wi-fi)
Could be sold “as a music player for those long hours at work, play games on the train ride home, check your at the local café, use your psp ‘hd’ to turn on the TV, crank up the sound, plug in and resume your gaming session on the play station network
Price @ 225
250 w/ 4-8 gigs of memory
300W/ 20-30 gigs
The new psp ‘hd’ ‘the control is in your hands’
1) Dual analogs, dual buttons on top (emulating PS3 UI of bumpers/triggers)
2) OLED touchscreen with no deinterlacing weirdness
3) Sliding full Qwerty keyboard (i like the idea of being behind the screen when folded in, so either have the screen slide up or the keyboard slide down
4) Bluetooth and wireless G/draft N
5) Using Bluetooth, should be able to function as a full PS3 controller with an onboard screen (would love to be able to do my plays on this, etc for Madden like I used to on Dreamcast).
6) dual cameras: 5-8mp Cybershot camera with full flash facing outbound and a smaller/normal camera maybe with LED for the front
7) GSM SIM card slot/cell phone functionality for convergence (built in mic, vibrate would go here)
8) Unlock this thing. Like PS3 allow a full blown Linux install. Encourage modding/customizing
9) I like the idea of the modular bay allowing mini-Blu-ray/UMD, SSD, HDD
10) Multi-card reader (SD/CF) in addition to MS Duo (which should definitely be kept)
11) Internal storage (4-8GB would be fine if they allowed multi-card / kept MS DUO).
so what i've been hearing so far is aside from the second analog stick, better wifi, battery life and so forth most people would like to see a full feature laptop/pc crammed into a psp and then splice it with a phone. hmmm while we are on that might as well make it have teleporting capabilities, transform into a car/boat/plane/you name it, give you hand massages while you aren't not playing, and much more.
but really i would like it to actually have some improvements internally. when something like the iphone (YES A PHONE) claims to have more processing power and 3d capabilities than the psp, then the psp should be crying in shame. because and iphone has a camera, 802.11g, a NICE web browser, internal storage, useful apps OUTSIDE of gaming and it has some pretty sweet games too.
In fact i think we should just stick some buttons to the iphone with two analog sticks and we've got ourselves the new psp. not to mention games would probably even come out faster too.
OMG. Some of the guys here are idiots. Sony will never drop the UMD. It would be like saying please don't buy games at all, just download that shit of the web and play on my, and i quote:"160 gb SD drive"(are you kidding?that would cost more than 600 dollars).
Why the hell would Sony add a keyboard on a mobile gaming device? Why the hell would sony add a phone function? IT MEANT FOR GAMING!
SD support? Those things are slow as hell.
Put a touch screen? Get a DS douchebag!
The only things that they should consider adding would be a 2nd analog stick, more CPU speed, better graphics card and more RAM.
Now hit that minus button on the right and call me an idiot then go back dreaming on your 160GB SD with touch screen, stereo mic, keyboard - PSP
Make it a touch screen like the DS Lite. Get rid of Umd movies { really who the heck watches movies on UMD anyways huh} Put in a Camera. 8 megapixals.
mine is the same as everyones i guess...
they should up another joystick, R & L 2 buttons... wiped umd drive.... and multi memostick slots... more internal mem.
i think if they trash the umd's they should make like a usb converter that hooks up to either the psp (for direct play) or to a computer (for copying onto memostick)
yes.....yes that is a beautiful design
Games on SSD with hotswap anyone? Should take about the size of the UMD-reader, and about the same cost if we assume that they would use the cheap 4/8GB ones.
It's already great if you ask, but as always lower cost would make it more afforable.
I have a question
People have been telling me that you cannot play games via memory card at the PSP 3000.
is it true cuz iam plannign on buying one please reply fast!
tnx
Sony should stop making PSP 4000. And Start think to planning make a new PSP2.
This is a dream machine. okay

INTEGRATE WITH SONY VAIO P2 SERIES... MEANING YOU DOCK YOUR PSP2 INTO A SHELL OF A NET BOOK (QWERTY KEYBOARD/ OLED DISPAY AND BATTERY and mounted webcam) and the PSP 2 becomes the guts for your netbook.
Street series with OLED integrated Googles with AugReality and Tru3D features for suspended game play ( in your leaving room instead of playing tekken in on your PSP2, using the new EyeToy cam mounted in the googles...you can throw Eddie Gordo into your refrigerator and the physics actually looks as if they are fighting in your living room.
Sony needs to either by or come up with their own video Photoshop suite so let's say you are fighting a friend in your garage but you only want to see the characters fight you can use the video photoshop software to permanently blot your opponent from your field of view...i think this was already on engadget or techeblog or something a couple months back...but yeah... that's my PSP 2.0
