Cowon hacks prices on practically every PMP it makes
by Darren Murph, posted Nov 5th 2008 at 8:28AM
Cowon
already lowered the primary barrier to entry on its PMP line once this year, but evidently that wasn't enough. In order to entice prospective buyers to go ahead and snag that
Cowon-branded player they've been on the fence about, the outfit has taken a sling blade to the stickers of the
F2,
D2,
I7,
Q5W,
A3 and
U5, leaving just the
O2 as-is. The cuts aren't exactly small beans either, with discounts ranging from $10 to $70 off of MSRP. For the full list of new and old prices, hop on past the break.

The F2,U5 and I7 look like crap anyway... $49.99
Kris @ Nov 5th 2008 9:08AM
I think they look pretty. Except the F2.
inteller @ Nov 5th 2008 10:25AM
Hey at least they support UNICODE. Wish I could say the same about the Zune!
napsterking @ Nov 5th 2008 8:42AM
Hey engadget, You might want to resize your Cowon price list, Its messing with breaking news and featured stories
Kris @ Nov 5th 2008 9:09AM
How do you not have a wide-screen?
zargon @ Nov 5th 2008 8:45AM
I wouldn't mind the Q5W.
nzo @ Nov 5th 2008 12:12PM
Ive been eyeing the q5w ever since it was announced but the price is still a bit much considering the reviews. I mean why would I spend that when I could just get a wind or eepc for much less and have way more functionality. Sure its a little smaller than a nettop but I guess it depends on what you want to do with it.
amazingrobie @ Nov 5th 2008 9:43AM
The Q5W is a piece of garbage at any price and also, the cut in price doesn't nearly make up for having to actually interface with their tech support or deal with returns of a faulty device, which happens....Alot. Cowon customer support is the worst there is and you can read all about how much of a piece of junk the Q5W is at the iaudiophile forums.
Once again, Cowon sucks...period...

Everyone knows you have no shame iEye.
BOGRASH @ Nov 5th 2008 9:50AM
d2 still the #1 mp3 player out there. i want one but i imagine in the uk these '$ sweeping price cuts' mean prices will escalate to a price hike of 50%
Kasiro @ Nov 5th 2008 12:18PM
They still don't get it.
In order to increase their sales, they should definately drop the D2 price to the Nano's price.
That way lil kids will be like: "Hey, the D2 is priced the same, but it actually has a larger screen."
Right now, every kid on the block is still buying the ''''''awesome"" Ipod Nano's, because they're so darn cheap.

To say nothing of ADVERTISING...
Al @ Nov 5th 2008 8:01PM
Wouldn't by that logic mean Sandisk products like the Fuze, which in some aspects is better than the Nano and priced lower do better than the Nano? As the other person said advertising is the key.
Gemakk @ Nov 5th 2008 12:51PM
One thing to remember is that the D2 has a broken shuffle functionality. If you're a shuffle-music listener, you're in for some bad times ala songs 'shuffling' from one familiar song to another one again and again.
holycow @ Nov 5th 2008 1:10PM
I need to get a new MP3 player for my sister, can someone suggest one? I was thinking of getting the 8GB iriver Spinn or one of the Cowons. Also drag & drop is one of the things i'm looking for.
Ignatius @ Nov 5th 2008 4:36PM
Every Cowon supports drag and drop. I still have an older Cowon U2 and I've dropped it so many times, I don't even worry when it bounces off concrete. They're great little players and they can pretty much eat up any format they're given, unlike iPods, which require you to sync with iTunes and convert, convert, convert.
ilh @ Nov 5th 2008 1:43PM
Hopefully the S9 gets a price drop too from whatever it was going to come out as...speaking of which, when is it out?
noyp @ Nov 5th 2008 8:32PM
How can you drop the price of something without a price?
Vennessa @ Nov 5th 2008 2:47PM
This looks like it would be a great product but the price range is a bit high for me with what it will do and when would it come out?
Skobbolop @ Nov 5th 2008 3:30PM
mid/late november...
but after the "failed" firmware on the O2 maybe Cowon is gonna wait until they get the S9 done right....
