Philips intros 42PFL9903D Aurea II LCD HDTV
Late in August, we got wind of an elusive Aurea II HDTV that was in development from Philips. Now, we're looking at the official result of that labor. The 42-inch Philips Aurea II (or 42PFL9903D, if you'd prefer) packs a 1080p panel, the latest version of the Perfect Pixel HD engine, a dynamic contrast ratio of 30,000:1 and a wicked fast two-millisecond response time. Reportedly, the main differences between this set and the original Aurea is a thinner frame, more curvaceous corners and an ever-so-slightly updated design. For those with the cash to blow, it'll be available for a stiff £2,499 ($3,967) this month.

I love how Phillips try dazzle everyone with the Aurea feature, when their TVs can't even compare to the video quality of the Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and Pioneer TVs current;y on the market. Aurea = Fail.

:rolls eyes: Yea, and i'm sure the Philips is just abysmally terrible in comparison.....

Hmmm. Looks like the Screen of an old-school iMac G4, only without the G4.

Is there a TV under all that Photoshop club lighting? Reminds me of early 90's jean ad's where the jeans are way in the back, and there are hot girls are up close and not wearing any jeans.

Honestly zephxiii, have you recently read of the reviews regarding the last few Phillip's TVs, or are you just randomly disagreeing with me because you don't like my comments? Fact is, Phillips can't compare to the latest TVs from a lot of the other manufacturers. If you don't like this, fine, but it's a fact. Look at all the user opinions on forums across the world. Are you trying to say the actual owners of these sets are wrong?

About the user comments, well I doubt that there is many who have two TVs for $3.000+ at home to actually compare them, there are some, but such a minority not even believable. If however they put down their opinions based on what they see in a store, it's just their opinions, If I walk into two different stores and take a look at the same TVs in both it will be a different experience, as stores can't be arsed to actually set up display TVs properly.
Reviews are a completely other thing.
That said, I'm pretty satisfied with my Philips TV, while they may be better TVs available from Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer or even Philips, the differences between the top models are really not that much of a deal breaker to me - they all perform fantastic, it falls down to personal preference what you pick if you got $3.500 to spend. The picture quality is almost the same on all of the top TVs.
And if you indeed buy a TV for $3.500 no-one can say you got ripped-off or that you bought a crap TV no matter what kind of renown brand you pick.

im sure this is cool for night clubs or restaurants that feature TVs, but do normal people buy shit like this?
xxlyyk @ Nov 6th 2008 2:10PM
I didn't want to go all the way with the aurea, since it cost twice what I was willing to spend, but I did get an ambilight television. Somehow I feel that i kind of makes the tv look bigger and more lively.

Sure, when you use it to play games like Gears of War or anything else with the Unreal/ Emo color engines, the Aurea turns into a black hole that sucks up the ambient light around the screen for maximum effect.
sarcasme @ Nov 6th 2008 2:01PM
LCD or LSD?

All glory to Aurea!
