Dell is set to expand upon its
Art House series of Studio laptops with three new special edition designs for
(PRODUCT) RED. That's right: now you can have an arty Dell
and do some good at the same time, with the choice of three different artists: Joseph Amedokpo, Siobhan Gunning and Bruce Mau. The custom designs will be available on Dell's
Studio 15 and 17 models for $649 and $799 respectively, and a $20 contribution will be made to The Global Fund for AIDS programs in Africa for each one sold. Dell claims that the art is "permanently infused" on the casing and totally durable, so, just like when deciding on a tattoo, be sure you're really committed before the purchase. And if you're too cool for these designs, well, maybe your slightly hip, gaudy great aunt will be interested. Regardless, they're available now online.
good afternoon, laura
I'm glad you wrote "$20 contribution will be made... for each one sold"
for a second i thought they were just going to donate $20 overall to the program.
Well, you never know...
Laura,
I'm honored that you created an account just to have your first comment as a comment on my comment!
Oh brother... *facepalm*
Well, unless they sell more than one it makes no difference.
Always thought (PRODUCT) RED products were always red. Hmmm.
how about, instead of throwing what they call "art" on the shells...let me pick my own ( or better yet create my own) cover and charge the extra $20.00 and give that to product red charity....
Why 2 Dell Logos On The Lid?
it's a "feature"
To detract from the horrendous design.
Well its hard to remove the original one by adding this sticker on there and the other one is there to imitate the (PRODUCT) thing..
Reminds me of A Tribe Called Quets first album cover...
...Sorta, abstract.
'i' don't like it.
Shoo away you fanboi
There's something incompatible about the style of the device and the style of the art... they don't go together.
Hey JR, I'm the only one doing lewis structures around here!
@ugg tryptophan...
Ummm, those are not Lewis structures. Lewis structures show little dots representing valence electrons.
I should stop now.
So for 599 you can buy a regular one but for 50 more you can get on where they donate 20 to a charity? No thanks. This is the kind of "corporate support" I detest. Plus, I actually only see the high end on offer ($983), no 650 to be found on the Studio 15.
So did Product RED team up with Product BLUE, GREEN, and YELLOW?
Yes welcome to (PRODUCT) TECHNICOLOUR YAWN.
Go go (PRODUCT) RANGERS!
Awesome review and pics on www.shaqfu.blog.ca
Please, Dell, just announce the Studio XPS 13 & 16 already!
What he/she said
gay. let me count the ways...
so today, based on your comments i've learned:
1) wasting gas is good
2) only free stuff is worth buying
3) inanimate objects are gay
man, republicans are really searching for identity this week huh? XD
I happen to think it looks pretty cool minus the double logo. The issue of how much they donate though, yeah, that's a deal-breaker.
I think it looks really nice, shame about the dell logo
Someone's been dropping acid...
psssh! Picasso was around before the discovery of LSD
Picasso is one of the artists for this? Crazy...
picasso used opium and other drugs to increase creativity
this is NOT a picasso
true, this wasn't his. Picasso was a diehard mac fanboy.
psssh! Picasso was around before the discovery of Mac
Regarding the design, I have the feeling that this product is something you thnk it's cool when you buy it, then after a month you look at and think "what did I think of when I bought it?" - looks bad in my opinion.

Broken read link
no, picasso is NOT one of the artists for this.
Yeah, Dell wouldn't do that- it might actually be seen as tasteful.
I like it and would buy one if i could be promised that my money wouldn't go to Africa. Until they rediscover the wonders of colonialization then no amount of money will fix their problems. How about throwing money at diseases that aren't the fault of the people who get them?
That laptop looks like it has AIDS, good thing Dell is raising funds to help fight that awful disease.
I don't like the one shown here, but this one:

looks quite nice.
I guess Dell will be reporting higher case/bag sales now. If I am carrying this around I don't want anybody to see it, it shall be hidden until I am in a dark corner.
You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
I just thought I'd share this with you - after checking out these designs on the UK Dell site (Incidentally, I think they're all quite nice. The "Shine Within" one isn't that great at all - but they're all nice designs. Maybe not on a laptop.) and speccing up a system, this happened...a wee bug in their system, perhaps?
Well, I don't know. As nice as the designs are, they might struggle to find someone willing to part with £52,142.70 (yes, the decimal point is in the right place) for them. Screenshot below!

Let's be honest, though - if I was to go for a crazy "out-there" design, Mike Ming's simpler offerings of Bunch'O Surfers or Seaweed are by far the nicest. In fact, the ones that are simpler. Even then I reckon I'd go with black, or the topographic grey one if I was feeling daring. I do like the others though, as images.
I prefer the black one...
That's what she said!
It is a pity the laptop, as with every other dell laptop, looks ugly as sin.
This cover will looks as a african style design. Ubuntu anyone?.
I don't really dig this design, but I am interested in seeing what other artsy designs they're going to be coming out with.
