Acer's Aspire One A110X "Black Edition" hits the streets of Germany

The Aspire One is selling really well, in spite of the fact that it kind of gets lost in the overwhelming wilderness of more exciting (cooler, if you will) netbooks, so it's not necessarily surprising to see it appearing in new and zany colors... like black. Sure, it's exactly the same as every other Aspire One 110 we've ever seen, but this one is... all black. In fact, it's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black. The special "Black Edition" has touched down in Germany for €400 (or about $500), which is a bit more than we're used to paying for the old 110, but it seems worth it to express so much with so little effort.

I checked out the specs and interestingly enough, it's got a 16gb SSD and it comes with XP Home. Maybe that's why it's a Limited Edition?

It's better than OK. I got the regular 110 in black about a month ago, and everyone who sees it is impressed. They all want to know how much it cost, because they expect I paid a lot. When I tell them it was only $400, they ask where they can get one!

The pictures really don't do it justice. It's actually much nicer in person, and even better when you're actually using it. The keyboard is fantastic, and the LED screen is amazing, too. It makes the 9" EeePC look like Fisher-Price.

I think that if Apple presented a netbook, it would be the best one of them all, and it suits well the financial situation. Having Steve Jobs saying that "we don;t know how to make a $500 laptop whoch is not crap" I don't see it happen in the near future.

The 16GB SSD Linux version came in black, so this "special edition" is just that model with XP preinstalled and a 6 cell battery.

Thing is, the SSD Acer uses isn't really suited for XP, though it's fine running Acer Linpus Lite. So this special edition is likely pants... unless this SSD is different from the ones we've seen until now.

I have an Aspire one for 2 months now and i don´t like it. It is a portable machine but that is it. The only things you can do on it without problems is checking email and websurfing( although the small screen makes it hard to enjoy ). I miss my Compaq v6600. ::((
