Eee PC 901GO with faster SSD and a bigger battery surfaces in France
The Eee PC 901 has always been the sweet spot model in ASUS's alphabet soup of a netbook line, and the 901GO launched today in France makes it even more desirable with a larger 8700mAh battery and a faster 16GB SSD capable of 50MB/s writes and 87MB/s reads. Of course, you can get the same 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and 8.9-inch screen in the 900A for $280, so the new 901GO's €399 ($505) pricetag seems perhaps a bit much, but the cutting edge ain't a cheap place to live, kids.

Fast SSD is nice, but not the bulkier battery...
Flashpoint @ Nov 17th 2008 9:23PM
That's the spec we are missing.
We need an easy to interpret spec that tells how fast an SSD is for read/write.
Wolfticket @ Nov 18th 2008 7:06AM
Bulk is not good, but the difference isn't that great and the battery life should be epic. The original 901 has pretty decent battery life.
PeachyJays @ Nov 17th 2008 7:31PM
I think the bulkier battery is nice!

I want me some "Fine Ebony"

Asus EeePC 901 16 Go as the retailers call it, just means 16 GB SSD, because the French use GO instead of GB.
phail @ Nov 17th 2008 8:07PM
no, it's called the 901GO because it has built in 3g
scott @ Nov 17th 2008 8:57PM

NOT HAPPY
Since getting my eeepc 901 3 months ago, ive now seen 20+ model from asus alone some of them bettering the spec and price, this one make me wonder why I didnt wait and get the samsung netbook instead as they only have one model, im sick of asus bring one or two out every week
with something better, but still good netbooks.
iofthestorm @ Nov 17th 2008 8:18PM
I don't understand the idiots complaining about too many EeePC models. It's not like a better model coming out somehow makes yours completely useless.
Ian @ Nov 17th 2008 8:43PM
Stop your whining.
Skazer @ Nov 17th 2008 9:54PM
Quick somebody call the WAAAHMBULANCE
Reader @ Nov 18th 2008 12:10AM
"some of them bettering the spec and price"
Holy fuckshit, what do people not understand about buying depreciating property such as technology? It'll always get cheaper and/or better with time, WTF do you expect? Goodness, every time I read of a complaint that someone thinks they got gypped because of this I want to ram a light pole through my eye socket.
digitallysick @ Nov 17th 2008 7:57PM
fast?? thats not a fast ssd at all, thats about half speed!
Chin-Poh @ Nov 17th 2008 8:02PM
Those are fast speeds for netbook SSDs at least.
The SSDs used in netbooks in general are much cheaper, but also much slower than the very expensive ones used in some notebooks and sold individually.
digitallysick @ Nov 17th 2008 8:44PM
i got a 64gb ssd for my netbook from newegg 150.00

What happened to phasing out ones smaller than 10 inches?
Cybergypsy @ Nov 17th 2008 8:02PM
I bought a MBA yesterday:)
Mobius_1 @ Nov 17th 2008 8:18PM
With this many models and specs, there's nothing Eeeasy about buying one of these.
The Walrus @ Nov 17th 2008 8:29PM
I'm sorry. Maybe you can return it tomorrow

I don't know fully
What this article is 'bout
It bores me a bit
lawyer bird @ Nov 17th 2008 10:44PM
Does anyone feel like the jacking up of a netbook's price tag past $500 is just a little ridiculous? It seems that anyone willing to pay that much for a little computer might as well just get an affordable 13 or 12". There's not that much of a difference.
tuaamin13 @ Nov 17th 2008 11:36PM
I missed the part where netbooks were cutting edge.
Maybe that article was on Giz?
CJ @ Nov 18th 2008 1:53AM
Don't worry about it Clack, with it's five hour battery, your air is only three-quarters of the eee.
But get a second battery, and you'll have a lot more power to meet your nee- wait.
