Incase Power Slider for iPhone 3G doubles the juice, lets you sync

Been cursing your iPhone 3G's disappointing battery life? Don't have the heart to saddle the thing with that big ol' Juice Pack? The Power Slider by Incase promises to double your phone's power for up to 5 hours talk time on the 3G network (10 hours on 2G), increase your audio playback time to 26 hours, and increase your video playback time to 7 hours. If that wasn't enough, the iPhone can be left in the case while you sync it -- saving wear and tear on the case and on your phone. While the Slider isn't as svelte as your raw, naked iPhone, at the very least it manages to keep roughly the same shape (even if it does fatten it up quite a bit). No pricing yet, should be available starting November 28.

Kewl...now only if I had an iPhone...
If apple was willing to sell an iPhone this thick, they should be making this themselves. I want it.
I'm with you there. They should make one for the itouch. I charge mine every night because i use it so much.
@ Kevin
Stop touching yourself that much then...
All is needs now is the telephoto lens...
http://www.meritline.com/telephoto-lens-for-iphone-612.html
the issue i have with cases like this is not the added thickness (which is annoying, however immaterial), but the fact that they're made of uber-frictiony silicone which makes it extremely difficult to slide in and out of your pocket (if not impossible). granted, it does prevent the phone from sliding out of your hand like a bar of soap, and crashing to the ground to (god forbid) scratch it. o tradeoffs...
I still prefer the mophie juice pack... you can slide in and out easily when you don't want the extra bulk. and Kevin, they make one for the touch and first gen as well. has an extra 480 mAh in the same width. http://www.mophie.com/collections/batteries
Wow...it's so...fat.
Thats....what she said!
ZING!
For its supposedly great design there sure do seem to be a lot of companies looking to saddle the iPhone with a larger battery and a lot of people wanting them. Maybe Apple should revisit that whole approach that design > function.
Or maybe it's just so good that people use it more than other phones (the battery life is better than almost every smartphone out there).
Eh, sorta. Up to you to decide if these power cases or swapping batteries is better.
@skrying
This is an Apple product we are talking about, swapping batteries is not nearly as convenient as slapping a thick case/backup battery on it. Other smart phones are a lot easier to swap batteries on and in fact a lot of the older WinMo models use to have docks that would allow you to charge a secondary battery. I think the Sprint/Verizon 6700 is the last I recall that had one.
Explanation: Complaining about complainers.
What's the point? Doesn't that make him just as bad? Think about it. Zak didn't say a single thing about the article. At least the original poster was talking about the article.
Is there a BlurMagic filter somewhere?
Intelligent, intuitive design by apple is a tradition... only in the sense that old geeks tell stories about it while gathered around the heat generated by a PC.
if this phone is supposedly the "greatest PHONE" in the universe, then why do you have to buy extra battery packs to strap on to it? That's like buying an awesome sports car that has a 1 gallon gas tank.. and gets 10 mpg.
More icrap. engadget if I wanted to know more about apple. I would get married to steve jobs for the details, then dump him maybe of a cliff and take his money
Hi, I'm Captain Obvious. I'll be your guide through the wonderful world of "You're An Idiot And Should Not Be Allowed To Reproduce" today. Let's begin with the concept of "Not Clicking". When you're on Engadget and you see an article about something you really don't care anything about and in fact seem to have a completely irrational hatred for, what's the first thing you should do?
DON'T CLICK.
That's right boys and girls, You don't have to click on articles you don't want to read. I know that's a shocking revelation for some of you, but it's the truth. Not Clicking is practiced by millions of reasonable people very day, and you can do it too! All you need is some good old fashioned common sense, and you too can enjoy the benefits of Not Clicking.
Or, you know, you can click on the story and make a completely douchy comment that serves no purpose other than to show the world what a douche you are. Douche.
Zak you forgot option number 3...
YOU could be the douche who logs onto the story, reads other douches comments,
then writes essays about how douchy they are when essentially your a being just as
douchy, because in a matter of factly matter, your overwhelming doucheness caused
you to flame about a flamer. Douche.
That being said... Engadget posts alot of ridiculous things for iWhatevers all throughout
the day. I believe this is the third or fourth iPod/iPhone component today. Im not flaming though.
If there is no other news, do it to it.
@blur magic
wait...
what?
@ Blur
Read what you wrote, and then read it again. And then wish Engadget comment system allowed deletes. Then feel hopelessly stupid and "douchy".
Then never comment on Engadget. Ever.
Ignore them Gautam....they're all noobs. We're the normal ones :P
In light of this, I think I've invented a new word:
Douche + Touché = Douché
Yea.....I'm awesome ^_^
Let me dumb it down for you.
Fusion Fuzo left a comment talking about the article. Well somewhat.
Then Zak gets on calling Fusion a douche for not talking good about Apple?
But Zak didn't say a single thing about the article?
So you douches highrank Zak saying nothing relevant?
Hmm.
Douches. You leave engadget.
Sorry, you didn't create the word, ive been using it for years.
@Blur
Fusion made a stupid comment (though throwing him off the cliff was kind of funny), then Zak called Fusion on it, in a rather humourous way, as he like the rest of us are tired or hearing people whine. Zak may not be an Apple fanboy, he may detest Apple more than Fusion, but what Zak is saying, is for people to stop reading articles they don't care about (specifically Apple articles) and then complain about them. Don't read it if you don't care.
Engadget posts articles. If you haven't noticed, Apple is a big player the market these days. I don't like it, but I welcome the info, because I, like many others, come to Engadget to know whats happening in the Tech world. If someone has solved a problem that Apple overlooked, then it should be known. Engadget does a good job of covering a wide variety of things throughout the day.
If Zak isn't an Apple fanboy I'll eat my new MacBook Pro.
That having been said, I totally agree with him. Keep up the good work.
What is the frickin point of getting a think chunky case for a shiny, smexy iphone? If you want a thick piece of junk go get a zune.
And if I want a small screen I'll get an iPod Classic. We can go at this all day.
Also, the point of this is to increase the battery life. Read the article next time, not everyone cares about looks.
I use my backup batteries for when I'm camping or on a skiing trip without access to a plugin, I'm sure that's the main reason people will but them. Not to mention the fact that you would be able to have your iPhone on you 24/7 (you wouldn't have to leave it to charge, just the backup battery). I think it's a brilliant piece of tech (although its appearance on Engadget and not TUAW is questionable) and nothing you say can sway my opinion, so there :-p
Absolutely, because the Zune is known for it's telephone call-making capability.
STFU.
Let's see:
Rubberized finish will never scratch or look like shit.
Increases the battery life a considerable amount.
A Zune cannot do half the shit an iPhone can. Like making phone calls. And making babies.
Let's face it....you're just jealous :P
Wait... You can use Zune to make phone calls???
Iphone is the devils smart phone! ZUUUUUUNE!!!
Wow, it'd be like having a 1G iPod again! Hmmm... not really nostalgic for that.
Very happy to see someone finally make a case that can mate with the dock. Kudos, eh.
Actually, I like it.
I think a good use for this would be on long flights or stints at the airport, etc. Or if you're a long commuter on a train or something like that.
I agree that it ruins the aesthetic of the phone. When a bunch of my friends got the 3G they all went out and got cases. I prefer to leave mine, how do you say au naturale. What's the point of owning that super-skinny phone if it's twice as thick now?
This could go a long way if Apple wants to market this thing as a gaming/multimedia device as well. At full screen brightness and with all the radios turned on the battery doesn't last that long compared to a DS or something.
Oh wow, this makes that piece of poo called the iPhone even more attractive......
Comes out a day after my birthday.....bastards.....now ima have to buy it....rofl
Actually, in defence of Incase, we have one for our iPod Touch 2G, and it's easily the best case design. The rubber makes it grippy, it looks cool thanks to the patterns in the rubber, the buttons and I/O cuttouts etc are perfectly alligned and it just seems well thought out.
We the Touch as a sales tool (photo, video playback), but the reason we didn't choose an iPhone is the battery life that would have meant it dying 1/4 of the way through the day. However, with one of these Power Sliders, we could re-think that decision. It may be thicker, but it's a lot smaller than a laptop, our prior sales tool.
Uh, meant to say "We USE the Touch..."
I don't care if that could add Flash to my iPhone 3G, I still wouldn't put that bulky piece of sh-t on my iPhone 3G.
Looks pregnant...
Woo Hoo... Baby iPhones FTW!!!
Aren't those called iPod nanos?
@ gonintendo
Do they lose the clickwheel, and gain a touchscreen and call-making abilities as they grow up?
shouldn't all those times be doubled, ie boosts 3g to 10 hours and 2g to 20? The specs given seem to be for the standard iphone, at least if you check it against apple's website
It makes sense if you say that it adds an additional 5 hours to 3g talk, like its written on incase's website
Seems excellent to me? extended battery and a case all together nice
