Dell's Inspiron 1425 leaked: like the 1420, but slimmer?
You really never know what you'll run across when sifting through PDF's on Dell's website, so we're not at all flabbergasted to hear that an all new machine has popped up courtesy of a completely random Product Safety, EMC and Environmental datasheet. The heretofore unheard of Inspiron 1425 now has its very own safety sheet on the outfit's official site, and it seems that two variants are listed (FT01 and FT02). Tipster SalientPilot rightfully points out that this machine looks to be just a hair slimmer and lighter than the existing Inspiron 1420, and given the November 18th "effective date," it sure smells fresh. Obviously, we've no clue if or when the Round Rock powerhouse will get around to doling out the official goods on this elusive machine, but we'd say this is probably reason enough to hold off on that impending 1420 purchase until we see what's what. [Warning: PDF read links][Thanks, SalientPilot]

It would be nice to have a fairly thin, good looking budget 14" from Dell. Dell has some good deals on it's Inspirons but the current 14 and 15 inch models are rather ugly. However, the newest models from Dell have been getting progressively better looking.

I disagree, in fact I don't even see a point
the 1420 is more powerful than the 1525 cause it has everything and a graphics card
the 1425 probably takes the graphics off, but then why not just get the already existing (and better looking) Inspiron 13?
Peter @ Nov 23rd 2008 9:51PM
I think your comment is more interesting.

Apparently there is a broken link on Dell's website at http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/manuals?~ck=ln&c=us&l=en&lnki=0&s=gen&SystemID=INSPIRON1425

There's a whole rumor thread at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=4191050#post4191050 and an "official 1425 thread" at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=230511

This is welcome. My 1420n looks like crap compared to my mom's 1525n even though it has three times the power. It could certainly use a bit more elegance..

Who sifts through PDFs on Dells Website? How bored would you have to be?
Rotaryfan @ Nov 23rd 2008 10:25PM
the correct questions is, how well does your employing blog pay you?
I'd search through dell PDF's for $10 an hour; it's easier than working at a hardware store.

If those specifications are right, this laptop is thick. Over one cm when compared to the E6400 and still ~.3 cm thicker than the 1420
AWWang @ Nov 24th 2008 12:21AM
Well, this is possibly going to be like the Dell Inspiron 1525/1526 but with a 14" screen and slightly smaller, slimmer size and weight will be slightly lighter... I am looking into this one... Other guesses will be a shape and design like the Inspiron 1318 but it won't be so possible compared to model number... LOL, I don't like the Studio line-up, totally like burnt inspirons!!! Jeez, Dell doesn't like silver now after firing that guy named Kevin... :P...
mykie @ Nov 24th 2008 12:40AM
As I type this on my THICK AS A BRICK Inspiwrong 1420, I can't help but to be intrigued by a slimmer, lighter model.
This laptop performs nicely, but it's a tank.
suprxtragrav @ Nov 24th 2008 1:13AM
I got the XPS M1330 a year ago. For the longest time i was stuck between the m1330 or the 1420. (specs are pretty much the same, but the 1420 is bigger, etc)
But is the 1420 really that thick? I don't seem to remember it being that big at the dell kiosk.

So a bit thinner, a bit lighter, a lot less graphics performance, but a lot more graphics on the lid... Have I just summed it up?
Kerri Sutey @ Nov 24th 2008 12:57PM
Darren and Folks,
Thank you for bringing up the concern. The Inspiron 1425 is available for retail in China: http://big5.pconline.com.cn/b5/product.pconline.com.cn/notebook/dell/265365_price.html.
Per regulations, we are required to post environmental data sheets for all systems being sold, whether on Dell.com or in retail shops, globally.
Thanks,
Kerri Sutey

Kerri Sutey,
Does this mean we don't get a 1425 in the U.S.? :(
