Meizu M8 Flash demo hits the scene, looks mighty familiar

How much ASCII will be spilled, how much bandwidth utilized on this legendary (if vaporous) iPhone killer before it becomes a real reality? Like the tail end of a torrid love affair, we're not even sure if it's the phone itself that we dig or the soap opera that we enjoy so much. And now, hot on the heels of the hands-on video that has captured the imagination of the entire world, Meizu has posted a flash demo of the M8's UI for those of you thirsting for a closer look at the thing. SPOILER ALERT: It bears a strong resemblance to the interface of a certain Apple product.

This still looks average...
After I got my Samsung Omnia I pity all the disinformed fools who keep wasting their money in the iPhone or its likes.
How can the iPhone be called a smartphone if you can't even use it as a modem for a laptop?
My omnia connects and syncs easily to all my PCs , wen I want it to work as mode for my netbook I don't even have to connect a cable, just click on the bluetooth icon on the laptop OR the one on the Omnia and I'm on HSDPA (real mobile broadband)
Once you have installed MS Voice command , I truly belive the Omnia is the perfect smartphone, even a flawed OS like windows mobile it's become a pleasure and a joy to use in the Omnia's package and with Samsung's tweaks.
The excellent 5mpx camera /videocam beside multiple flash option and editing functions it's got macro and a zoom that actually works and of course, a second camera for videoconferencing and MMS.
Besides Google maps, and street view, it comes with Route 66 preinstalled and 2 years subscription to its services already payed for. The mouse/mini trackpad function is genial, Best browsing ever from a smartphone , with Opera and explorer, multitouch kickass screen, up to 16 gb memory on card + 8 on the phone.
Everything anybody ever wished on a smartphone plus lots that nobody knew it wanted on it.
Belive me it really is that good.
No, sorry, it actually is better.
i'd seriously buy this thing if only it won't remind me how much it ressembles what i already have in my pocket...
Ok, throw the "English Language Fanboy" flames, or call me homophobic for my fear of improperly used homophones, but that should probably be "tale".
um...no...
Eyes reading faster than my brain...
(oops)
"Tail end" works just fine. "Tale" would have been right had it been alone.
wow, everyone ranked my post low because i stated what is true. nice
That's because this topic's about the m8 now not the first renders as you discussing.
I think the m8 looks great. Now if only it will be available by christmas...
I don't think people can make a phone that isn't an iPhone ripoff now. Apple's attack bitches, aka fanbois, think that Apple invented the phone, icons, clocks, touchscreens, and everything else most modern phones have. I have yet to see anyone who is calling this an iPhone clone respond to the accusations that the iPhone is a Palm ripoff because all it does is change the icons and add a few features. Get with it Apple fanbois, everyone copies everyone. Just like Apple stole their original GUI from Xerox and Microsoft stole it from them. If you're gonna be all judgmental and obnoxious, then you have to judge Apple obnoxiously too.
I didn't know Apple owned the rights to a Grid Format (Didn't Windows implement Icons in a grid format years ago?) and the rights to every black touchscreen player. Hm... my bad, but... if they did own the rights... wouldn't they have sued? hmmmmmmmm......
I do so enjoy reading the ravings of the Apple fanboy. How stupid are you people? Apple iProducts are overpriced, overhyped, and under performing. The end. As for the user interface that so many praise... it's usable and does what it needs to but, come on, it's not THAT great is it?
Does anyone remember how Apple fans used to spend their time attacking Windows users for being sheep? At least Windows users are CRITICAL of their own OS and recognize actually faults. Unfortunately the majority of Apple fanboys are worse than sheep. Fanatical militant Apple iSheep who fail to realise that everything Apple has released in the last few years is aimed at the lowest common denominator.
The average iProduct can usaully be summarised like so:
1) The sound reproduction is mediocre. (That's being extremely generous frankly)
2) Codec support is next to non-exsistant.
3) Comes packaged with and dependant on iTunes which is an utter piece of garbage that has to use four processes to do half the things a decent media player can do with one process
4) Uses some form of DRM. Enough said.
5) Costs an utter fortune. For example the price of an iPhone and a contract if two years can cost anything between $1,800 and $6,500.
6) Much vaunted 'features' fail to do as advertised or work at all quite often.
7) Generates so much fanboy hype that any other product will be shouted down and/or accused of somehow copying said Apple product despite volumes of evidence to the contrary.
I'm awaiting my Low Ranked oblivion now...
"Apple iFawn: A way of life."
Because you're not clear about what you mean. You're just shouting stuff like "the iPhone is mediocre", without giving any arguments about WHY it is mediocre, or why other companies are doing so much better.
Woops, that should have been a reply to loocas. Oh I love the Engadget comment system.
What happened to this: http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/24/meizu-m8-interface-redesigned-gets-all-sparkly/ ? I liked the way that one looked.
It looks like it's still there... http://en.meizu.com/cn/m8.html
seriously, if they never release it, then yes, we will keep getting new OS looks because times change, and they keep changing this phone without ever releasing it. Sorry, but your too late
So, how long until our friends at http://www.xda-developers.com/ harvest the shell out of it and make it available for the rest of us?
Kurt says enough already!
