D3x reportedly shown, then removed from Nikon's site

While this rumor hasn't been running quite as long as the original iPhone rumor, we've been brushing off whispers of the D3x for a really, really long time. For what it's worth, the latest tidbit actually seems to have some teeth, with one eagle-eyed tipster noting that the website in the read link was alive momentarily, then canned inexplicably. He managed to grab the image you see above (but not the whole site?), and he swears up and down it wasn't the Eggnog distorting his judgment. We'll see, won't we?
[Thanks, Darryl]

You know what's cool? The Nikon D3 is also designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.

Nah, it's real. I saw it before it went down but didn't really think enough to capture the site up.

Nice how they make the bottom part look like an 1980's SLR with a motor winder attached. (Anyone remember what a motor winder is?)

Nikon does not depict its cameras with the lcd display on.

If you go to the supposed Nikon hyperlink and change the "D3X" to "D10X", "D5X", or "DwhiskeyX", you still get a blank "official" Nikon page. In the parlance of Homeland Security, this is plausible, but probably only aspirational information.

Doesn't the LCD seem a little small for the current generation of Nikons?
ocellnuri @ Nov 28th 2008 12:57AM
I hope that's not an official photo... the image on the LCD is a pretty default looking Bunkspeed Hypershot rendering... the environment is one of the few HDRI's that ship with Hypershot.
