LaCie CurrenKey flash drive is like funny money, minus the laughs
We've seen plenty of cute flash drives in our day, but this one that looks like spare change -- you know, cold, hard, days of yore currency -- well, let's just say this USB 2.0 drive is like heaven on earth. You can get it in an 8GB silver "dime" size, or the 4GB copper "penny" variation for a starting price of $19.99. Come to think of it, you might want to stock up just in case our economy utterly fails and we actually start using these as you know, money.

cute 19.99!

There is a new, crazy flashdrive out every day. I honestly do not see the attraction. I cannot imagine ever wanting a flashdrive looking much different from a rectangle. :/

It is nice seeing one of these that's reasonably priced, though. A special case doesn't cost the $30-40 extra that these people normally try to grab.

I think it would get laughs. If i saw someone use one of those i know id laugh at them.

I understand an 8 value for a dime, as we are in a recession and have been for some time. I don't understand why a penny should be 4. Is this a Canadian penny?
Wwhat @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:19AM
It's 4 gigapennies actually I expect, bailout pennies probably.

This is a stupid form factor. The way USB ports are crammed together (especially on laptops), plugging one of these in will block at least one other USB port. That is, if you can plug it in without having to buy a USB extension cord. You'd never be able to fit one of these into the MacBook Air USB port.

Like I say every 6 months, I'll wait for the higher capacity flash drives.
I guess I'll buy one eventually.

USB flashdrives shaped like coins? What? Why?!
Low Ranked @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:15AM
I.B confused. Why make something that's going to block off another USB port?
Eric McCormick @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:19AM
People are going to want this because its a cool idea, a new shape, something outside the ordinary. There are many others the block ports like whent you customize a USB drive to be the body of a teddy bear and the head the cap or making it out of lego blocks or any other shape that has been covered by Engadget. The idea is not that it is practical but that its fun and intresting.

great...I wonder if it'll survive a washer/dryer cycle.

I like this idea better.

While there is a slight chance that this might block a USB port located NEXT TO another, it is not at all likely to block off the more standard stacked USB port design.
See the pics on the manufacturer site - The relationship between the height of the actual USB jack and the total height of the device is roughly the same as any other flash drive, and I've seen plenty that are every bit as thick.

Aha, this is really amazing idea, it might be more safe to take it, not one would even think of stealing it. by the way, there is some interesting USB at http://www.favordeals.com/fashion-usb-disk-c-22_893.html .
