Sony VAIO Wi-Fi Photo Frame - We're pretty sure she'll be transfixed for hours looking through photos of her friends and family with this truly attractive, 7-inch digital photo frame. If you're feeling particularly creative, you could always pre-load it full of photographs of cats with hilarious captions -- that brings the laughs at any age, in our opinion.
$299.99 - Buy from Sony Style

Kota the Triceratops - This prehistoric plaything is definitely going to take up a lot of space, and it might give the family Chihuahua the creeps (what doesn't?), but other than that, we're looking at 100 percent herbivorous ceratopsid dino-cuddling action. As far as we can tell, you really can't go wrong with this gift -- as long as your daughter is under the age of oh... say, 30.
$269.99 - Buy from Playskool

Logitech Squeezebox Boom - The Squeezebox Boom seems like one of those gifts you may really be stoked to receive, even though you didn't know you wanted one in the first place. With a built in amp and speakers, this WiFi-enabled tabletop radio will have a serious dance party raging in no time -- though we doubt people will be cutting a rug to anything from Red Carpet Massacre-era Duran Duran.

Dell Studio Hybrid Desktop PC - If your daughter's the kind of girl who likes to repaint her room to fit her mood or match her outfits, but she's also an environmentally conscious PC-user, this could be a match made in heaven. The Studio Hybrids -- which boast WiFi and HDMI options as well as wireless mice and keyboards -- make economical use of space, and are pretty easy on the eyes, too.

Vicious and Divine Swarovski Laplace Webcam - A perfect gift for only the fanciest people in your life, the crystal coated webcam laughs in the face of understated glamor -- then kicks it, sprinkles some Swarovskis on it, and makes friends with it. Regardless, the 2 megapixel photo and 1.3 megapixel video resolution -- plus those 1,350 crystals -- make this the perfect gift for the uber-luxury crowd.
$504 - Special order from Speed-Link
Canon Rebel XSi DSLR - If you're hoping to foster the development of the next Annie Leibovitz, this 12.2 megapixel camera is a snazzy option. A serious DSLR that's also newcomer-friendly, the Rebel XSi is not cheap -- and it's going to run you extra to tack on those two optional telephoto lenses that she'll definitely want if she decides to forego the high road and become a papparazzo.

Motorola Aura - It's exclusive, expensive, and high-end. It boasts a 16-million (yes, million) color circular lcd, a 62-carat (yes, carat) sapphire crystal lens, and a 2.0 megapixel camera, all in the most attractive package Motorola's ever graced us with. What more could your tech-savvy princess ask for? Just be sure you get her the real thing -- a cheap knockoff really won't do.
$1,999 - Buy from Moto Store
Philips 42PFL5603D 42-inch 1080p LCD TV - Yes, this is truly a giant television to buy for your daughter, but she will inevitably think you are the greatest parent in the entire universe if you do. At least for an hour.
$1,199 - Buy from Dell
Wacom Cintiq 12WX 12.1-inch tablet / Photoshop - Is the girl on your list always doodling? Drawing all over your walls or precious sports memorabilia? The Wacom Cintiq tablet might be the gift (or deterrent) that you're in search of. The 12.1-inch, 1280 x 800 display is large enough to provide a useful workspace, but small enough to be portable and sit comfortably on a table or lap. You'll definitely want to tack Photoshop on to this purchase, of course, and really kick those creative impulses into high gear. Only the worst daughter in the world would spurn such an extraordinary gift.

Vibrating Mascara. Solves two problems in one. Should put in a girlfriends section to be honest.
Joe @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:11PM
Just because she calls me 'daddy' doesn't mean I'm buying her a Christmas present.
Luke D @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:14PM
I could never look at her eyes the same way ever again...

Its similiar to a DIY vibrator kit. Now your nerdy daughter can build and program her very first boyfriend!

In you're 0-50$ range, you could add those stick on laptop lid covers

Are you saying only girls like to draw?
gygaxis @ Dec 4th 2008 4:10AM
OHNOS! An item on the list that isn't inherently gendered =O
as a male illustrator it was very nice to see that as a recommendation it's solid product that is actually well worth the money, though budget tablet pc's are in similar price ranges too.
Also, is a digital photo frame ever a valid gift for anyone?
Zunavio @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:20PM
My sister is actually expecting a DSi from her father!
Luke D @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:16PM
So what's your father getting your sister?
Zunavio @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:42PM
An iPod NANO !!

JWC @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:45PM
Look honey I got you a high end sex toy that you won't be able to hide at all. Years of therapy ensue.
Luke D @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:21PM
Sybian - for the daughter whose taste in men gives you heart attacks.
liu_kevin1 @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:26PM
somehow you manage to stick an apple product in every gift guide written
Rohit Kapur @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:35PM
Yes, because Apple products, somehow, DO manage to make good gifts.
Sheesh. Go get laid and stop making something out of nothing. Yes, Engadget may occasionally sound pro-Apple. Yes, it may not make every fanboi happy. But Jesus, stop posting crap whenever you log on. If you can't, skip the fucking article.
^^
Goes out to all fanboys. Irritating jerks.
Thi mam(kris120890) @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:39PM
Occasionally was possibly the wrong word.
maveric101 @ Dec 3rd 2008 2:13PM
while there may be better options, apple products are very popular, especially among people who don't know any better. so i would say apple products are good for gift guides.
f3rg @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:40PM
Most girls want nothing more than to be envied by their "friends". What's the price on that?
who? @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:23PM
Apparently a minimum of 229 USD...
gygaxis @ Dec 4th 2008 4:15AM
@f3rg Wow, way to just be pointlessly sexist and offensive, that was totally what this guide needed lots more of.
JWC @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:43PM
I wouldn't recommend Philips TVs for a North American audience. I checked them out a bit on Consumer Reports and the opinion over there was that the brand (for TVs anyway) has become sketchy. They don't really make TVs anymore and their warranty service has been outsourced. The customer-service-centric folks over there told me to AVOID.
J @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:46PM
Sony Style link is broken for the WiFi photo frame.
LongshotX @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:53PM
More like Holiday broke guide.
CoralAmber @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:58PM
How about the WowWee Femisapien robot, it's a step up from last year's Sakura Robot because it's cool for older kids and does more stuff, including sing backup to songs it hears.
Patriks7 @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:02PM
"What can we say about the iPod Touch that hasn't already been said? What can we write about the iPod Touch that we haven't already written? Nothing."
Can't be said about the other products I've seen here, which are usually as good as the iPod Touch.. TBH, only thing I've seen have more post than the iPod Touch could be the iPhone and maybe MacBook (Pro)..
Go figure..
David @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:08PM
Could I be a daughter so I can get some cool stuff like that?
God @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:13PM
Some of these are...eh...not very girly, especially the triceratops, that could go for either gender of young children. I guess it is kind of hard to make a guide for girls when guys are 90% of the time WAY more interested in technology than a girl is. They are usually interested in fashion and such to be honest.
gygaxis @ Dec 4th 2008 4:27AM
@God - It's an Engadget holiday gift guide, it would make sense to presume that if you're shopping for your daughter on a tech blog you'd be shopping for tech things for her because your theoretical daughter is an actual human being and not a result of stereotypes and is perfectly able to have any interests she so chooses including whatever random gadgetry, i7 processors, or apparently weird robot dinosaurs. Gender roles are so over rated, focus on what choices an individual of either gender makes for themselves and respect those choices instead of trying to force your opinion of you what you think they should be on them and watch as they actually develop into the unique and interesting person they want to be.
@Jeremy. K - the Ali & AJ heart logo, while vaguely similar to the Roxy logo in the sense of some general proportion and very very tangentially styling issues on the exterior heart silhouette is pretty clearly based on a typographic AA design playing on their initials. You could probably even make an argument for it being AL and AJ with the orientation of the tail portions of the hearts.
Jeremy K. @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:19PM
Aly & AJ totally ripped off the Roxy logo.

My daughter would shit in my shoe if I bought her a widescreen tv that wasn't 120Hz.
Brandon L @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:33PM
This is going to be a sad, sad holiday for a lot of daughters.
And sons.
And dads.
And moms as well.
Me too :(

As a geeks daughter.. and a geek myself there are very few things I'd actually appreciate as gifts on this list.
Is it too much to ask for a kick ass video card or an i7 system?
Thunderbuck @ Dec 3rd 2008 2:00PM
Yes.
cake @ Dec 3rd 2008 2:13PM
This guide sure does go from "for daughter" to "for spoiled rotten daughter" fast.
BevQB @ Dec 3rd 2008 3:02PM
As a Mom of 4 (from 12 to 22), I have to say wrong camera, unless she's already got a serious photojournalism bug.
If she's a teen or preteen, go for the Canon SD1100 IS. It comes in several colors and happens to be a damn nice camera. Find it just about anywhere for under $199, but shop around for lower sale prices.
Manish @ Dec 3rd 2008 3:18PM
Wow...cool....why dont you had a HP dv5 series notebook to your list :) Thats what my parents bought me :p
