Inspiron 1545 outed on Dell's support site

The kids over at Engadget Spanish ran some pics of a new Dell laptop a short while back, and now the company itself has leaked some stats and info on its support site. Apparently, the device -- dubbed the Inspiron 1545 -- will boast a 15.6-inch widescreen, a Core 2 Duo processor (max 2.53GHz), up to 4GB memory and will ship with either Vista or Ubuntu. There's more to it than that, of course -- hit the read link for some docs and make sure you check out the gallery for more info.

Quite possibly the most boring laptop ever though the specs sound alright.
In Dell's current range, you might be right, but if you just looks back a few years in time...
Too bad they slapped that 16:9 widescreen in it.
Looks to be aimed at the lower tier of buyers due to its lrge looking form factor.
Oh my gosh. I hope the rest of Dell's refresh doesn't look like this, or I've had it.
Please Dell, don't start making shiny laptops a-la HP! The market doesn't need any more overly glossy notebooks designed to get cheap glances in a Bestbuy lineup!
yeah it looks way too HP
after the poor showing with the last generation I think the 1525 and its related inspirons were a nice move on the budget, and Dell always has their own style, this is not to exciting but it is a budget laptop
hopefully they pull an XPS m1330 again early next year
looks like a cross between an hp and a toshiba aircraft carrier
I'm OK with shiny laptops...
As long as the frickin' display doesn't look like a frickin' mirror!
The first moment I saw it I thought it was a HP. When I knew it's a Dell, I really disrespect for the company that they'd copy someone else's design language. The thing around the keyboard is so obvious.
What on earth motivates laptop manufacturers to locate the air intake on the bottom of the laptop? My HP is this way, and it's a handy way to completely block the air vents when the laptop is being used anywhere but on my lap.
Yeah saw this one at PC World yesterday. Not a bad looking computer.
Dude that laptop looks like it shipped with windows 2000, let alone Vista....
dale 1v, agreed this is an EXTREMELY FUGLY laptop
Professional
Fusion Fuzo
I really wish Dell would stop placing the audio ports on the front of the laptop. That is SO MUCH WORSE than on the side. The one thing I dislike about my XPS M1330 is using it in my lap and my headphone jack poking me.
That's what she said.
I don't mean to be awkward but I particularly like the fact they're on the front of my M1330. So much easier to access.
I'm not sure if I agree with you. Yes, there are times they annoy me (especially when I plug in my hifi I'd rather have the plugs at the back), and sometimes it also bothers me with headphones. But on the other hand... there are times when there is little space at the side, and then it is good as it is. I guess the best solution would be one plug at the side and one in front...
my HP dv5t has them on the front, but toward the right edge. easy access without being bothersome in the lap.
Ships with Ubuntu huh? Deal.
wtf?
if I remember there was no saving on getting Ubuntu, might as well get the Vista version and get a license key for windows, and install Ubuntu yourself which is free, or another distro you may like better (Fedora 10 w/ KDE for me)
Do I hear snoring?
But nonetheless I think the design REALLY resembles the Compaq V3000/V6000 laptops...
It does look so much like my laptop!!

Man I've been seeing this at a Curry's for a while, wondering to myself why the Hell I haven't seen this laptop on any websites yet.
Now I know, seemingly.
yawn...move along, dell continues to empty out the corporate parts bin for their computers
Someone's fucked up because this has been around since of august. Bit of research.

Bollocks. I fucked up too.
I didn't really mean to double post.
Incredibly mundane?
Save some cash and pay little extra for a macbook, you won't regret it.
Go away please, nub.
My posts were better than yours even though they were wrong. You must feel suicidal.
I did and it was a MBP. Never again.
Well, when I first saw the picture, it thought it was the first-gen Vostro. Yeah, it's pretty ho-hum, but if the form factor is decent and reliable (like the one for the Vostro I'm typing this on), so much the better for Dell.
That being said, it IS a Dell.
...
*knocks on wood*
I was Totally wrong I was looking at the date and only just realised it was the wrong format. It says 12/07/2008 so I thought it said 12th July but it means 7th December. So these are new. Available to order from any dsgi store between £400-£500.
Wow two fuck ups in one article. Any more and I'll be like iEye, Cockface or clak.
Leave me while I weep in the corner.
go away plz thx
I though you were too busy being a fanboy. You go away if you don't like it.
kthxbye
Yah I was going to say....I did my training on this model last week on dell's DCSE site. If this was from July I'm royally screwed. In regards to this model....yah the consensus of yawn is pretty much right on. I think someone at Dell looked at the calendar...said OH SHIT the holidays are coming we need something....and BAM. You got this thing. Inspiring it is not. Ironic considering the name.
No firewire and only 3 USB ports...why?
Because only a handful of people give a shit about FW??? At least FW 400. 800 is another matter.
Well they couldn't emulate the Mac's awesome design, so they copied the ports. Or lack of.
After the last rather decent designs they had to give their designers some rest, huh? Kind of boring, but at least they offer a matte black option. Nice. I like the matte black outside on my Vostro. But I guess that's only for the outside. Don't like the gloss inside (or the glittery plastic on my Vostro).
I HATE DELLS
The day the warrenty experied my computer chrased. This happened to lots of my friends
warranty* expired* crashed*
Just here to help.
WHERE THE FUCK IS MY STUDIO XPS LINE. I'm waiting for dell to match Acer, Sony, and HP with a 16.4/18.4 inch 16:9 widescreen with blu-ray. COME ON DELL
16:10 = 1200x800 or next step up, 1440x900.
16:9 = 1366x786. Why do you want to rob yourself of vertical resolution?
Seeing how it is 15.6 inch and not 15.4 inch, it might be a 16:9 aspect?
And I have a FW from sony with 1600 by 900 resolution. Its not loosing any vertical resolution and gaining a lot of horizontal.
Great for side by side document viewing and multimedia.
Studio XPS 1340 and 1640 is rumored for January/February 2009. I'm waiting too...
It was rumored for end of November, but that did not quite work.
