Bluetooth SIG promises high-speed specification next summer, likely BT 3.0
After putting those nasty Bluetooth 2.2 rumors to bed, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group has directly informed Wireless Week that it will indeed look to come out with a "high-speed specification next summer." Of course, we've been waiting on such a thing for, like, ever now, but Executive Director Mike Foley has asserted that when the spec arrives in summer 2009 it will likely be sitting at 3.0. What's 3.0 promising? Faster overall transmission speeds and quicker connections, namely. So, what's the over / under on the Bluetooth SIG actually delivering?[Via phonescoop]

Define high-speed and we'll talk.
Chris Are @ Dec 8th 2008 10:08PM
transfer speeds higher than they are now?
Alex @ Dec 8th 2008 10:10PM
How about longer range?
Like, one MILLION MILES MUHAHAHA
Corey @ Dec 8th 2008 10:10PM
Thanks for that Chris.

The secret? They're skipping straight to 4.0 :)

Bluetooth 3.0 is said to be bringing UWB into the fray. for those that dont know, UBW is a low power, short range technology like bluetooth ,just ultra fast ( 450Mbps - 2Gbps) using spread spectrum technology. UBW can stream music and HD video over air with no issue. BT #.0 will most likely sit at 450Mbps
MiaCane @ Dec 8th 2008 10:19PM
UWB stands for Ultra Wideband. kinda forgot that in my post.
Alex @ Dec 8th 2008 10:19PM
what speed does bluetooh @.0 currently run at?
MiaCane @ Dec 8th 2008 10:20PM
lol yea BT 2.0 ( not @.0 , or #.0 haha) runs at about 1-3 Mbps.
Salsa Shark @ Dec 8th 2008 11:21PM
BT #.0 = UBW
New math.

Please, please include easier and better pairing. Has anyone ever tried to get a windows mobile PDA to pair to a desktop. It's not easy.
rhcpsfan @ Dec 8th 2008 10:27PM
THe bluetooth isn't your problem.........windows mobile is the problem.

Yeah, responsibility for the functionality and ease of use of Bluetooth really does lie with the OS. Samsung is my personal preference for cell pairing and reliability of BT, but that's just me.

Nothing but sweet, sweet words.

Will it come with an external battery?
rhcpsfan @ Dec 8th 2008 10:31PM
no
Anthony @ Dec 8th 2008 10:50PM
oh look, its a double headed jesus fish..
PLS SAVE ME !!! i want to be able to walk around my whole house with my BT headset =]
Tohe @ Jan 18th 2009 7:20AM
Clever.
redtooth @ Dec 8th 2008 11:17PM
Twice the speed of the current. That's what BT high speed anything that is insanely fast is useless for headset, unless you want a pound headset because it needs more power. Data transferring just use the wired one it's just gonna suck-up all the battery of your cellphone of your high speed BT.

BT 3.0 sounds promising but is anyone addressing the horrible BT + WiFi interference problem??? Specifically 802.11 b/g/n...I know they both operate on 2.4 Ghz but I don't even think manufacturers are including any type of shielding protection and BT most of the time decreases or disrupts network performance drastically meanwhile WiFi networks are everywhere today? Shouldn't there be something done to make BT and WiFi co-exist together in a 'friendlier' manner???
MiaCane @ Dec 9th 2008 8:57PM
well UWB is a spread spectrum technology. BT 3.0 looks like it may work on a 6-9 Ghz frequency range. It also eliminates the interference with burst transmissions. UWB is super reliable against interference. Should be interesting when Sony has TransferJet out too.

It'll be cool to use the new fangled magnetic resonance wireless power thingamagelic thingy to power BT3 devices.
no batteries needed
action figures sold separately

Those people in a certain phone department in Cupertino have a lot of catching up to do....
