Creative's Vado HD 720p pocket camcorder now on sale for $199.99
It was up for pre-order late last month, but now Creative's proper successor to the Vado (that'd be the Vado HD) is finally on sale and ready to ship. For those with incredibly short memories, this 720p pocket cam boasts HDMI connectivity, 8GB of inbuilt memory for up to two hours of HD footage, a carbon black chassis, 2-inch LCD screen and an integrated USB connector for easy exporting. As for pricing, the MSRP sits at $229.99, but even Creative's own webstore is offering it for $199.99.

Or just buy a hand held camcorder that will give 720P and better quality video for less with Zoom and everything. For $99 I can understand but $199. That's extortionate.
I can't think of any camcorder that rocks 720p for under $199. I'd really dig a link.
How many have you seen from a name anyone has ever heard of?

you're welcome
Jack, I have the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD100 with 5X optical zoom that records 1080P (although it records at 1440, not 1920) that sells for $199 at Wally World. Of course, if you want to be technical, it's not advertised as a "720p" device.
@ Menos:
That Insignia 'Rocks'?
eh, its pretty nice... got one last week for $99. the price went up but its still under $199 nonetheless...
Nice and just in time, too.
Personally, I prefer a heavier camcorder. Easier to pan or hold steady without a tripod.
So, you have no problem lugging around a big hulk of a camera everywhere you go? Yeah, that's what I thought. Seriously, what kind of a pointless comment is that?!
The Panasonic Lumix TZ5 can be had for a little over $200. 720P with 10x optical zoom. Got pretty good reviews as a camera as well.
Too bad the CMOS Canon SX1 hasn't been release since the announcement, it's 20x and full HD 1080, super zoom fanboys are drooling.
hi
the same camera is on sell here in Germany for 69,- Euro !
kodak zi6 w/720p at BB for $129 this week
Uh, no Mac support?? That a way to alienate a growing marketplace! The exact reason their MP3 players are dying a slow death!
@ Michael K,
The lack of Mac support is only for the built-in software.
I understand that the camera will connect to a Mac and allow you to download the video for editing or upload.

Why oh why can't some company spend the 30 cents per unit to add a mic input to their pocket camcorder?
Because companies aren't after the enthusiasts anymore, they're after the yuppies with no creativity, big families, and oodles of money.
Canon H series camcorders are a perfect example. - HV20 was *almost* good, but they still made some pretty serious mistakes with it. HF10/100 is a great example, as well as the other recent camcorders.
Panasonic learned their lesson after the GS250/400 too (Best affordable camcorder they'd been making) The GS300/500 were shit, as well as most stuff until just recently, with the HD100 and SD100, bringing back the feature ring (Focus/aperture/etc..) control, mic inputs, etc...
inb4 "Buy a real video camera".
Face it, some of us just enjoy being creative, and wish we didn't have to buy 2000$ camcorders to get a little tactile control, and a few features...
the Mino HD has a mic.... it's pretty much
this thing that Creative is selling for pretty much $200.
Pogue reviewed the thing and it seemed pretty good.
I think some people are missing the point of this thing: it fits in your pocket. A lot of the other camcorders being mentioned are either much bigger or much heavier. I think this little thing is interesting because it's tiny enough to have in a jeans pocket all the time, so you can pull it out and get video whenever you feel like it. I will have to look at the Insignia camera that someone mentioned, but that Sanyo is much bigger if I remember right. Anyone else have good suggestions for what I'm talking about? HD is a must.
We meet again...
What good is a 4:3 display on an HD camera?
I've got the original Vado and have liked it for the price. BTW, its been on sale for $79.99 plus some accessories and shipped free. Possibly a great steal for Xmas. I just ordered the Vado HD and am looking forward to it. Creative is discounting it $30 as an introductory price. Likely to beat the Mino.

What I see good from the vado hd is the HDMI connector. This means that I can watch videos of hd quality on my hd tv! What's better is that it also comes with the HDMI and USB extension cables?!! Great to know that creative actually realised that the short usb cable may be inconvenient to use at times. It's gonna be in my christmas wishlist!
PC Magazine rated the Creative Vado HD higher than the Flip Mino HD and PC World also rated the Creative Vado HD (only 1 point) higher.
The video quality comparisons vary by test. Each wins some. The feature set is what put the Vado HD ahead..given a virtually tied video quality.
