Unibody MacBooks get first firmware updates
New unibody MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air users might want to fire up Software Update -- Apple's got some updated firmware for you. As usual, notes on what problems the new code might fix are pretty light, but let's hope they address the plethora of problems plaguing Apple's latest laptops. Give it a shot, and be sure to let us know how it goes in the comments.

Yeah, and what scared me more was how long it sat at a black screen before rebooting. I can tell no difference after the update, which is a good sign in my book, because I had no problems before applying it.
The only thing keeping me from getting a unibody MBP is the lack of firewire 400. Is there an adatper or something I could use?

Whoops. Thought that was it...

You could also probably find an ExpressCard with FW if you get the Pro. You might as well just replace whatever device you're using with one that used a USB bus. Ever since Apple abandoned FW in the iPods, I could tell they were moving on and I stopped making any investments in FW devices.
I think ye means a FW800 to FW400. Yes. Keep in mind that Firewire, like most common busses, will run as the speed of the slowest device, so pluging a FW400 device into 800 will cause the whole thing to run at 400: http://www.lacie.com/download/more/WhitePaper_FireWire_800.pdf

I'm getting my MBP in the mail tomorrow. Glad to see some of the things I've been worried about are being addressed.
@poematik14: There are 6 pin to 9 pin firewire cables available online just check out newegg.com
My MBP Late 2008 seems slower after this firmware update :-(
Why is apple becoming more like a crap s##t store? They are producing the products that are full of bugs and issues. They need to do a better quality control if they want to portray the 'we are better than MS' image.
So far, my impression of apple crap is getting worse and worse..
Even though I agree with some of the comments which criticize Apple for not testing products better before putting them out in the market at such premium prices, I've not noticed a single problem with my unibody macbook since the day I bought it (release day) other than the usual OSX quirks.
The firmware update, hopefully, has solved some of the problems before I ever faced or observed them :P
I hope some of the people who were facing the problems come forward and let us know if the firmware updates sorted issues out for them.
FWIW:
I have the new Air (rev B as some refer) and within the first 2 weeks I had an issue booting the system where it would just pop up a window (prior to loading the OS) telling me I need to reboot. I had to bring it to the apple store and they reloaded the OS.
About two weeks later (tonight) I was having the same issue. I was able to boot into safe mode and apply EFI update - boom problem gone and I can now boot into MAC OS no problem. Maybe something got fixed booting into safe mode (fsck?) but i doubt it.
