Acer Aspire One goes official on AT&T's 3G network
Hey, remember that Acer Aspire One equipped with on-board 3G we spied in a Radio Shack ad the other day? Well guess what? It's real -- and we've got the PR to prove it. Just as expected, the netbook is being offered for the teensy price of $99.99 (coupled with a lengthy and expensive contract with AT&T). The diminutive laptop comes equipped with a single mind-blowing gigabyte of memory and a decently sizeable 160GB hard drive. Besides doing its mobile broadband thing, it also sports 802.11b/g, weighs in at 2.44 lbs., and will never, ever seem worth it in the long run.

Steve Jobs Job is done.
He has proved that you can "fool some of the people all of the time"!
Hmm, don't see any advantage this has over my eee 1000H. I would just add a USB modem/data plan. (6 cell battery standard, RAM to 2 Gb, HDD to 320 Gb Seagate ASG. XP and OSX Leo run great, will add Vista Ult and Win 7. Got thru the Microsoft/Paypal thingy, 30% rebate.)
WHAT UP ACER PEEPS, I ACTUALLY GOT THIS FOR XMAS ITS A GREAT PIECE OF MACHINE, SO FAR SO GOOD YOUR RIGHT 60 BUCKS FOR 3G WIRELESS IS EXPENSIVE BUT ITS WELL WORTH IT ITS FAST AND CONVENIENT I HAVE MOSTLY ALL MY PROGRAMS I NEED ON IT, RIGHT NOW IM RUNNING CITRIX PROGRAM NEIGHBORHOOD SOFTWARE IM RUNNING NEXTGEN 2.8 AND RECENTLY IVE INSTALLED QNXT TRIZETTO ON IT AS WELL I USE THEM ALL FOR WORK OF COURSE I HAVE MY FUN PROGRAMS LIKE UTORRENT,ITUNES, ETC BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANY BODY ITS PORTABLE ITS LIGHT AND ITS GREAT
"and will never, ever seem worth it in the long run" -- meaning the netbook or the contract?
And remember to read the fine print when you use it on ATT's 3G plan - there is a 5G limit - anything go over that you will be charged AT LEAST $0.00048/KB, i.e. if you download some movies or files, say 1G total, after you reached the 5G limit..... omg.... be prepare to pay $60+$480+ for that month.
And its assuming you are downloading from 'local' websites, not 'Canadian' nor 'International' websites - because those will cost you at least 30 times more at $0.015/KB.
Well, at least I learnt something new - there is something called 'International Data' on the 'Internet'.
COPIED FROM ATT:
Rate Plan Details
Included Data 5 GB
Additional data $0.00048/KB
Canadian Data $0.015/KB
International Data $0.0195/KB
As someone who sells them I don't fell bad at all doing so. People come in looking for them who want to use the internet service on ATT's 3G network but don't want to have to carry around a 17" screen's weight. People already carry enough stuff on them. It's small, lightweight, and has both ATT's wireless card AND a regular wireless as well so you can use either. While yes some people are indeed trying cut down on their bills there are many businesses who are doing well and have been buying them (put on personal accounts then the business reimburses them) so that they can have instant communication anywhere in the field. Really handy with the HP portable printers, instant invoices and reporting to the home office without having to find a hotspot. I've actually sold a lot of these to people for this kids going off to school so they can run around campus with it and not worry about having 9lbs of laptop slip out of their hands as this can fit right into just about any backpack even in a case (no special one needed, any portable DVD case that fits a 9" screen will do).
Long story short, everyone who buys one from me knows the price, the plan, the penalties and most important I tell them their alternatives. It's cost me a few sales doing that but at least I can sleep well at night.
