Lenovo Ideapad S9 available now in US

If you've been waiting around for the elusive 8.9-inch Lenovo S9 Ideapad, today's your lucky day. A smaller version of the already available S10, this one boasts a 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, and 4GB SSD, all paired with a 1024×600 resolution. It's available for $344.99 at Geeks and $359.46 at Buy.com, so you might want to burn rubber over there right away. Go ahead and admit it: you love ZZ Top, just like us.

It could use another 512mb of ram but that should be easy and cheap to add.
Why would anyone buy this? It's just the S10 with a larger bezel, a smaller screen, and a tiny SSD in place of a regular hard drive, for almost exactly the same price. S10s start at $350 on all the major websites now.
@James,
The same reason people buy the macbooks over the macbook pros...
@ vvtopkar
But macbooks are physically smaller than macbook pros and cheaper. This is neither smaller nor cheaper than the S10, it just has a bigger bezel and a smaller screen.
Who needs another 512 megabytes of RAM when your a sharp dressed man?
Um.....no.
The MacBook is physically smaller than the MacBook Pro.
The S9 is physically the same size as the S10.
Agreed. Look at the pictures on the other sites, they look nothing like the picture above. This is exactly the same size, 9.8 x 7.2 x 1.1 inches, as the S10, and the bezel is VERY thick. So its just a cheap screen. And you can get the S10, in colors other than black even, at various sites including newegg.com for $349.00 with free shipping.
$350 for an S10 is a great price. And the Lenovo Ideapad S series are noteworthy since they are the only netbooks with ExpressCard slots. And they're relatively thin. But the keyboard is so-so (still with the crappy right shift key) and the expansion less than other models like the Dell Mini 9.
If you want an 8.9" netbook, the Dell is quite a bit smaller than this, 3/4" smaller on width, half an inch on length, though its a little thicker (for no good reason). Keyboard is worse of course, but that's because its actually an 8.9" netbook.
S10 rules! I found mine at rollbackcentral.com - Keyboard is fine. I don't know what everyone is complaining about.
Gotta love ZZ top.
that Ideapad's got legs.
That its got legs is not in doubt. The real question is does it know how to use them?
Looks hideously cheap......
So do cheap sunglasses, and yet they're still awesome.
That graphic is very misleading, and actually isn't correct. The only thing smaller about this S9 is the screen. It's just a bigger bezel. This is essentially a crappy S10.
The Buy.com page says "Ships from and sold by Geeks" and includes a shipping charge, but doesn't reflect Geeks.com's current discounted price. Depending on your particular shipping costs, Buy.com looks a couple dollars more expensive.
I hope nobody is buying this piece of crap to save literally $5 at the expense of a compromised screen that's an inch smaller. The S10 is a fine netbook but this is stupid. The dimensions are exactly the same, this is trash left over from the factory.
Oh, I'm sorry. I see now that it is a model called S9. I thought it was a computer with a price of $9.
ZZ TOP!!!
Your comment is almost as ridiculous as your username....
hey thanks for the kindness! if you must know, my user name makes a lot more sense on joystiq where i comment a lot. so...THERE!
Lol sorry to sound harsh I've seen your comments on a couple of blogs, just havn't seen you here much, must cracking a joke, sorry if you found it offensive.
So..... there!?
hey its cool. where else do you comment?
Jep enig hvorfor ville nogen købe den når S10 er precis lidt bedre til samme pris pfff
The S10e, with Quick Start (a lenovo version of splashtop) is available for sale at lenovo as well. I just got one and it's great. 6 cell battery is totally awesome!

(this comment written on a lenovo S10e)
Lapster thanks for that link. Don't know why but I couldn't find that page from the Lenovo website earlier this week. Just ordered an S10e.
NICE

Fusion Fuzo
For the last time, you are not a Professional! I'm 14 and I'll bet $2000 in savings that I know and understand the workings of Windows better than you do.
fuzo i thought you were leaving! damn! i had a party and everything! thanks for ruining my fun.
Trackpoint? I would buy in a heartbeat if one of these netbooks got the little nubby thing. With no trackpad it would make for a smaller shape.
Agreed. Plus they might be able to fit in a better keyboard, too.
A ThinkPad X100...
What Morbo said, I'm just waiting for one with a track point. Wouldn't mind a full right shift key too.
Bring us TrackPoint or go home!
Is Engadget using an S10 picture? The bezel on the links is a tad fugly and definitely thicker.
If it had been the same size as an Eee 900, fine, otherwise, ugh.. Some people like small netbooks.
