It appears to be an unpowered hub (judging by the way it only comes with the hub and a USB cable, not a power adapter), so you can probably still only chill one Coke or warm one set of gloves or other (relatively) high-power-drain activity... yes, I know those were intended as stupid examples anyway, and there are plenty of USB devices that don't need bus power (or not much) but.
Agreed, I noticed that too and I think it should be mentioned, people should be aware of such things before buying, and be aware that if the price is extremely low it might mean they saved by not including an adaptor which means the price is in fact not so low.
I guess it's ok for notebooks though, mind you it would be handy if an USB hub has at least a socket for external power, and they could conceivably make a battery-pack powered USB hub. it might have a market, for people that need to use USB devices that draw a lot of power in the field.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

Before the invention of a USB hub, there is the power bar. You just need to bend over to reach it.
You'd think an Engadget writer would be hip to the realities of USB hubs.
Go figure.
Although it doesn't seem to come with a power adapter, the close up shots on the company site show a power plug on the side of the hub.
