Parrot intros Philippe Starck-designed Zimku wireless speakers

We're not sure if he's been taking notes from fellow countryman Jean-Michel Jarre or not, but it looks like prolific designer Philippe Starck now has a tower-style speaker system to call his own. Considering that Starck has paired up with the wireless-minded folks at Parrot, however, there's a few more surprises in store with these -- namely, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth to accommodate your laptop or cellphone of choice. You will still get an iPod / iPhone dock, of course, along with a remote control (also designed by Starck), and some newfangled NXT technology that apparently "revolutionizes traditional acoustic design." All that comes at an expectedly premium price, however, with the speakers set to run $1,500 when they're released sometime in the spring.

This would be better with a "Thats what he said" joke, as it's plural, and I have yet to find a guy with 2 huge things, while girls have tons of them :P

That's what he said.
(Did you see what I did there? Turned "she" into "he". That's comedy!)

exactly where the iPhone should be.. atop a pedestal...looking down upon its inferior competitors...
Mobius_1 @ Dec 18th 2008 1:56PM
Phillipe Starck? Is that Tony Stark's French cousin?
Sexy thing, that, you can even say the iPod is ruining it by looking imperfect. :P
Boarderwoot @ Dec 18th 2008 2:09PM
I would have to agree, it does kind of ruin the look of the speaker...however, throw a protective clear plastic box ontop and you you have a trophy display case for your beloved iPod! Brilliant!
ProfessorDex @ Dec 18th 2008 2:13PM
Bell-bottoms gone horrible wrong!

Why would I want bell bottoms for an IPod?
Would it only play disco music?
Stretchtuning @ Dec 18th 2008 2:19PM
Yuk
Electromodo @ Dec 18th 2008 2:24PM
The speaker's compartment on top looks rather shallow to accomodate big speakers. Those are probably small tweeters.
And I guess the cone on bottom contains a huge woofer pointed downwards. That will be a true floor-shaking action!
Just don't buy them for apartments if you don't live on 1st floor.

Cliché comment of the day -
It's bad enough that Apple charges too much for their products - So why in the world, with the economic meltdown happening worldwide, would a company think they can charge $1500 for a couple of tower speakers?
Hope I got this one in before some other jackass...
Patriks7 @ Dec 18th 2008 2:36PM
You're saying it as if they came up with them overnight.. (well I have to admit, they might have from the looks of it), but if they have been working on it for a longer time, then they just wont wait until the economy gets better.. plus it's to be released in the spring, we're still far away from then..
ProfessorDex @ Dec 18th 2008 2:37PM
Hope I got this one in before some other jackass...
....makes a similar stupid comment?
Congrats! You won!
GreezyG @ Dec 18th 2008 2:38PM
Well...
The people that could afford this and are willing to do so will but it anyways.
BJ is Gooder @ Dec 18th 2008 2:54PM
If you didn't catch on that my original comment was a jab at all the a-holes that post similar 'BUT THE ECONOMY!!' comments -you are an idiot.
That means you, ProfessorDex.

Yes sir i would carry theese babies with me everywhere, all we need is power then theese are as good as any stereo
Oli D @ Dec 18th 2008 2:47PM
I'll only be impressed with the "wireless" claim when these speakers have no wires.
No power, nothing internally.
Until then, just lies.

That's a lot to pay for some incredibly ugly speakers.
