Fujitsu Lifebook with AT&T BroadbandConnect appears, several people really excited

As if Fujitsu's U820 wasn't interesting enough already, news that it can now be customized and purchased with AT&T BroadbandConnect should be enough to convince you that it's... uh interesting. Fujitsu's site gives you two options for packing your U820 with integrated HSDPA -- a Vista Home Premium version for $1199, and one with Vista Business for $1499. It looks you'll be forced to go with the 120GB hard drive if you want the 3G, since neither the 60GB hard drive nor the 64GB SSD are available with the configuration. These little dudes appear to be shipping now: try to contain yourselves.

This may be the most versatile computer ever created.

wait?...$300 for vista biz-knees?
From My Cube @ Dec 22nd 2008 12:34PM
is that a biometric scanner on it? If so, its aimed for the mobile business person
E71 @ Dec 22nd 2008 2:55PM
Biometric scanner? What about multi-touch? We want multi-touch in time for Windows 7. \m/

After the reviews of this little baby on here, I went and found it at my local CDW. It is a tiny little machine, even smaller than I imagined. I love everything it has. I am even okay with the price. But it is just so damn small. At least for me it is too small to use. I really wish it wasn't so. Just FYI
grabbydad @ Dec 22nd 2008 12:44PM
Fujitsu, could you please widen the screen to minimize that thick bezel? Thanks, potential buyer.
htd @ Dec 22nd 2008 12:48PM
totally agree with this part, otherwise the layout looks good.
but still cant justify one and half grands for the slowest 3G network from ATT when I can tether my winmo phone to access the web with my epc any where.
crawdad689 @ Dec 22nd 2008 1:03PM
Totally agree as well. Hopefully within the next 2 or so years, manufacturers can do away with this completely.
Even the Macbook could fit probably a 14.4"-ish screen if they'd make the display teh same size as the lid.

Can someone explain to me why AT&T can't offer you a cellular phone data plan and a 3G Sim Card for these integrated 3G laptops where you pay for both the laptop net and the cellular data together - without trying to rape your wallet to death?
Michael T @ Dec 22nd 2008 1:12PM
I'm guessing it's because AT&T wants to rape your wallet to death?
Chris Are @ Dec 22nd 2008 1:14PM
You can't take over the internet w/o money.

God Fujitsu can you make it any fuglier?
chefgon_ign @ Dec 22nd 2008 12:50PM
I think it looks pretty awesome. You have to take it's ridiculously small size into consideration, this is much smaller than an Eee.
chefgon_ign @ Dec 22nd 2008 12:51PM
its*
PinoyTattoos.com @ Dec 22nd 2008 12:58PM
I have the basic model and got it for $999. It's awesome although a little slow due to Vista. I get a lot of stares using it in public.

Just received the U820 yesterday - Silverthorne 1.6 Atom (not the slower Diamondville in netbooks), 120GB HDD.
The computer is incredible - runs Vista very well. That is a fingerprint scanner on the lower right of the screen.
I believe there are antennas (GPS and Wireless) in the bezel, so they can't extend to the edges.
The U820 rocks! I wish they kept the resolution a little lower like the U810 - It maxes out at 1280 x 1000 (or something like that) it's too much - everything is very small, even after resizing the text/icons.
Mark @ Dec 22nd 2008 2:00PM
kenp, there are three versions of Atom - the medium speed one used in netbooks, the slow one used in MIDs and Dell Mini 12 (possibly also in this machine) and the dual-core one used in nettops.
So yours probably has the slowest one.
Jason @ Dec 22nd 2008 3:18PM
Actually, Mark, Intel lists 8 Atom processors, 1 dual core and 7 singles. Ken's is the 2nd fastest in the single core list.
Jason @ Dec 22nd 2008 3:23PM
oh and the Silverthorne means that it's rated to clock at 1.86, meaning it's a sturdier component than the other 1.6ers.
Valicore @ Dec 22nd 2008 1:18PM
Yeah, several people really excited, but not because of this.
Barkus @ Dec 22nd 2008 3:32PM
Why can't we get a netbook with a built-in UNLOCKED cellular data capability??? Wonder how hard it would be to unlock the cellular capabilities of this device??
Sarig @ Dec 23rd 2008 11:54AM
You could always just buy it from somewhere else than AT&T
phail @ Dec 22nd 2008 4:41PM
if they had them cheaper like 500 with a contract i would buy one
CosterMonger @ Dec 22nd 2008 5:19PM
because I've always wanted a screen that is barely visible
john @ Dec 22nd 2008 5:35PM
Let me know when it has vendor supported ubuntu (with full support for all of the included hardware, even the wifi (no pulling an Everun here)), and some degree of SSD (I'd be happy enough with 16 or 32 GB) as options to go with the 3G. Otherwise, not even remotely interested.
