Sony VAIO Japanese teaser suggests something long, thin, and "coming soon"
Sony is continuing its drip drip of teasers on a new entry to its VAIO line with a Japanese placeholder sure to pique just the slightest bit of curiosity. When you venture over to the company's co.jp landing page, you're greeting with a quick Flash animation of a woman pulling a long, thin rectangle out of her clutch... which ends up being an envelope reading "VAIO New Mobile, Coming Soon." Your guess is as good as ours -- as long as you're guessing it's this thing.

Christmas is RUINED now
Mike10010100 @ Dec 24th 2008 10:11AM
Wow. The sheer stupidity of these comments is mind blowing.
Back on topic, I saw an Asus at Bestbuy that looked almost identical from the bottom. Asus was able to have a full size keyboard and number pad without being too gigantic.
I think it's an interesting idea.
skyzbig @ Dec 24th 2008 9:02AM
Umm. Not sure about this.
Sony need to hurry up and make a PSP Phone rather than some bizarre looking net/notebook.
I do like that bouncing question mark in the flash trailer though! Highly amusing.
Peter @ Dec 24th 2008 10:59AM
I bet it's dual screen
jK @ Dec 24th 2008 12:13PM
I say by 99% chance it is an UMPC that kinda looks like PSP with 1/2 of QWERTY keys on each side of the screen and 1% chance it is a fully touch based tablet PC with a fold-in-half/dual screen! The battery slot in the FCC shot seems to be too deep for it to be dual screen or even have a slide out keyboard. It might just have an OLED screen though?
samnesral @ Dec 24th 2008 9:10AM
That's what she said!
scott @ Dec 24th 2008 9:19AM
ah! beat me to it!
L @ Dec 24th 2008 9:20AM
Yeah...hate to break it to you, but that meme is REALLY getting old.
Backlin @ Dec 24th 2008 9:29AM
The title of the article made me want to say that so bad.
samnesral @ Dec 24th 2008 3:46PM
To L, I know, and I considered your feelings fully before writing it, but this article title could not have been any more rife for satire.
Sincerest apologies,
Samnesral
Matthew C @ Dec 24th 2008 3:51PM
I couldn't get past the title. I seriously thought that would be the first comment.
Ian @ Dec 24th 2008 5:04PM
I'm coming soon?
snowglyder @ Dec 24th 2008 5:25PM
"...long, thin, and coming soon."
"Sony is continuing its drip drip..."
Is Sony releasing a reader with erotic e-books?
Agent .25i @ Dec 24th 2008 9:14AM
Who the hell would want a laptop/notebook that smelt of FISH???
dale1v @ Dec 24th 2008 9:18AM
pr0n viewers like iEye
Boarderwoot @ Dec 24th 2008 9:19AM
I'd like to see some woman put that in her clutch and then bitch and moan that there's no room for anything else.
NM @ Dec 24th 2008 9:21AM
You know that share prices aren't relative to each other, don't you?
Gregg @ Dec 24th 2008 9:22AM
Interesting that the teaser shows it in an envelope. A letter sized envelope is 4" X 9 1/2", awfully close to Engadget's estimate.
Marc B @ Dec 24th 2008 11:05AM
There is no way that is a standard envelope.... unless that his the hawtest midget I have ever seen.
chewbie @ Dec 28th 2008 1:28PM
Not the device-in-an-envelope idea again! Anything but that please
Cybergypsy @ Dec 24th 2008 9:22AM
I always love sony designs.
Scarhead @ Dec 24th 2008 9:25AM
Long and thing will go way in, but short and thick will do the trick.
Flashpoint @ Dec 24th 2008 9:50AM
Long, thin and "coming" soon????
I know that was the title of a porno movie.
mrpoo @ Dec 24th 2008 9:36AM
I saw the movie "Long, thick and coming soon," maybe this is the sequel? I didn't think Sony was into this genre, though.
AMiSH PiRATE @ Dec 24th 2008 9:37AM
long & thin?! They're releasing an updated version of the Elder Wand! Now with 82% more killing!
CosterMonger @ Dec 24th 2008 9:39AM
looks like an envelope to me
thatrotierkid @ Dec 24th 2008 9:41AM
lol @ the title. freudian slip josh?
waterwagen @ Dec 24th 2008 9:52AM
Well I'd say that we have definite confirmation that the FCC pic is of what is coming, haha.
Gonna be an interesting form factor.
Who Knows @ Dec 24th 2008 10:26AM
O rly?!
Chird @ Dec 24th 2008 10:53AM
YaRly!! is it a MID????? perhaps?

Almadi @ Dec 24th 2008 10:02AM
Thats one hell of an AC adapter. Wonder how big the laptop is.
dcoaster @ Dec 24th 2008 10:03AM
Merry Christmas!
T-Bone @ Dec 24th 2008 10:04AM
It looks like a keyboard to me.
decapitor @ Dec 24th 2008 10:12AM
The extra width is for a mirror to see how awesome you look while using your sony.
Patriks7 @ Dec 24th 2008 11:15AM
Apple solved this by making the bezel so "glassy" (if that's even a word) :p
Marcello @ Dec 24th 2008 10:15AM
My comment is so low ranked i can't even find it on the page... mmhm. Christmas is really RUINED now.
P.S. thanks a lot for voting my comment
Sachin @ Dec 24th 2008 10:27AM
long, thin, and coming soon? well, i guess if you have a laptop fetish...
ObsoletePower @ Dec 24th 2008 10:28AM
Wow....for anyone that has ever purchased a VAIO before you know very well how much you got ripped off...I certainly did! I am never buying another VAIO again. They are severely overpriced and really offer no benefits over other laptop in their class which go for much cheaper. The new designs of VAIO are just hideous and I urge you people to consider other brands. Save your money for something worth it.
william @ Dec 24th 2008 10:31AM
sony makes some nice laptops but what really makes them fail sometimes is the amount of software they add to the laptop and the lack of support they offer. as far as looks they make some nice looking laptops. if sony plays its card right in the NETBOOK market they can make some serious money. SONY DONT BE GREEDY keep it in the 400-500 range.
Mr. Ford @ Dec 24th 2008 4:59PM
@Obsolete Power
You should follow Williams lead. He properly demonstrates how to critique a product based on its weaknesses and not come off like a cry baby. In turn, he gets the +1 and you the -1.
McKennen Robbins @ Dec 24th 2008 10:41AM
that's what she said lol
Darren @ Dec 24th 2008 10:53AM
Just what the world has been waiting for: a laptop with a 200x800 display.
dcoaster @ Dec 24th 2008 11:49AM
Everyone knows that resolutions are measured by length x width..... 800 x 200....
