With CES just around the corner, it's no surprise to hear whispers of a new lot of laptops from HP (or anyone else, for that matter). A smattering of from reports around the web have it that Hewlett-Packard is looking to debut a few new machines here in the near future, starting with the AMD-powered 13.3-inch Pavilion dv3z ($799.99), the 16-inch dv6t entertainment notebook ($679.99) and the 17-inch Pavilion G70 ($799.99). We're also clued in on a Compaq Presario CQ60, which will tout a 15.4-inch panel, AMD CPU and not much else considering the $469.99 price tag. Finally, it looks as if the company could introduce a new "Mi" (for Mobile Internet, duh) Mini 1000 edition, which could ship as early as next week with a Linux-based OS and a $379.99 starting tag. Check the links below for all the details, and keep it locked right here for any updates from
HP.

...or mIii
Does that make this a... Mini Mi...?
Isn't New Line gonna sue them for calling their laptop Mini Mi?

Who needs "mini me", or a netbook.
iPhone is already an ultimate netbook, can you browse pages in your bed, laying, using just a thumb? The iPhone browser is a marvel, really.
@ no_one You're not aloud to talk anymore
@ no_one
Can I finally copy and paste on the iphone? NO
Can I have more than 10 tabs open on the iphone in Safari? NO
Does flash work on the iphone? NO
Can I edit a presentation on the iphone? NO
Sorry you fail, the Iphone is NOT a replacement for a netbook.
@Syndication & No-one
Not only The iPhone is not a substitute for a netbook, it's not even a substitute for a phone.
Not my phones anyway.
With my HTC touch HD or my Samsung Omnia (yes 2 phones : work and private) I can browse faster , copy &paste, use them as modems for my netbooks, see flash , choose browser (all come with at least Opera and explorer) and do all the things Syndication explains the iPhone lacks; but still none of them is a real substitute for a netbook.
However both can at least be used as mobile modems (BT or usb connected) for my netbook,
the iPhone can't even be used for such a basic task.
@no_one: "Laying"? Laying what? Eggs? Unless you meant laying down. Or laid. Which would open up a whole new set of questions...
@Sublimewulf, you're not allowed to spell anymore.
I have an iPhone and a Netbook, and let me add to this list:
Can I play Half-Life on the iPhone? NO
Can I type with a real keyboard on the iPhone? NO
Can I Telnet easily on the iPhone? NO
Can I watch downloaded movies without converting them first? NO
BTW, Kilgore, I used to adore my HTC WiMo phone before I got the iPhone, and the iPhone won me over. While it may have a crippled bluetooth stack, I can still tether using WiFi, and I do.
@gonintendo What are you talking about? I spelled just fine.
lols@Sublimewulf.

Well if you jailbreak it (which really takes about 10 minutes and doesn't void your warranty and is really easy to do) you can actually do all that..
Couldn't they call it the Mini Mi 1000?
They must have spent ages trying to think of an excuse to call a compute that....what can we make MI stand for?
Maybe I've missed it; I admit, I just skimmed the read links. Are these computers primarily for use with Mobile Broadband? I can't find mention of a wireless carrier. I guess you buy the hardware yourself. That's just as well, though. A little less entanglement between hardware and services would be a good thing.
Can't really see the difference between the dv6 and the hdx16 now since they're both apparently 16:9. I woulda thought the dv6 was going to be more of a 16:10 ratio instead of a 16:9 ratio, just at 16".
OMG, no more products with plays on the letter i (YOU TOO APPLE)
Wii
Mii
Vii
Zii
Mi
Personally, I'm hoping there's gonna be a product called Pii.
Off Topic-- Is it just me or have Highest Ranked comments been extra rare lately?

HA!!! I would totally get that just to pee on the cat!
...Oh...maybe I shouldn't if I want to keep my friends and family from disowning me...
Introducing the new Pii? Can't wait for some asian company to do that.
@ Bill cant fart
Yea, I haven't seen many high ratings at all.
Why would the Mini 1000 MI Edition cost more than the base price for the Windows XP version.... bah.
Are the specs of the Mi available? The link is seems to be down.
Does anyone else notice a resemblance to HP's font ("Simplify Your Life"), and the one used by WB when promoting Harry Potter films?
It's a bit similar but I think the HP font is more like that of the title for The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Actually you are both wrong. That is Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events font right there. I keep waiting for Jim Carey to pop up in every commercial.
Uh, didn't HP say the Linux version of the Mini 1000 would be released in January when they announced it a couple months ago? Didn't they even say it would run Ubuntu Netbook Remix with their MIE dashboard/app-launcher/whatever?
Exactly, pretty much.
finally, someone realises this was already announced with the original hp mini 1000.. thank you!
I love how they come up with names that are SO easy to remember. Seriously. What the fuck HP? I can't wait for their next line of desktops, including the HP Sonova 122hjdf12hjs Premium.
I bet this drops on Monday
dr iivil.. :)
I like how the word "netbook" wasn't mentioned in the article.
Did Psion get you too?
Cool, Mini MI!
What, pray tell, is the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition?
Vivienne Tam edition:

Who cares, macworld is coming soon.
Maybe HP will fix the webcam that isn't even usable in the mini 1000 right now since there is something wrong with it and all you see is darkness unless you are in the light of a thousand suns
I will buy a netbook when I can get 10 hour battery life and a 1024 pixel wide screen for less than $200. I give it two years.
I'm excited, but disappointed at the same time. HP recently released the tx2z tablet laptop and I was hoping they'd release another one to bump down the prices just a little bit. Guess I'll be going with the grainier tx2500us series instead to save a pretty penny or two.
Hope I'll be able to download the Mi software from HP. I have the Mini 1000 and have XP running off the SSD and UBUNTU 8.10 off a 16 gig SD card. Works well. Would like to install Mi to another SD card.
Also, an iPhone is not a replacement for a netbook. I have one an iphone 3g and its a great mobile browser, but not for general use. A netbook isnt going to replace my full Lenovo T60 laptop either. These devices all serve their purpose.
Seems like they will release the HP 2134 Mini-Note, too:

any reason it's more expensive than the XP version?
