Android tattoo girl
Natalie "Kommodore" Thompson just joined the rarified ranks of Zune Guy and the BlackBerry Storm Cankle Man with her very own Android tattoo. While obviously a fan of the brand new mobile OS, she says she did it mostly to show her support of open source in general, and ol' Tux lost out to the more-adorable little green bot (known affectionately around the Engadget HQ as "Marvin"). Add in that shutter shades t-shirt -- for a 100x multiplier -- and we're likely dealing with our very first fit-for-society tattoo nerd. Too bad she only dates robots.

Excellent!
Wow, she's cute!
She's also a publicity whore.
This whole tattoo business is getting like Big Brother and youtube. It was kind of curious the first time, now it's just filled with people trying to scramble for their 15 minutes of fame. Is this what it's about, seeing who can do the most stupid thing and get famous for it?
Attention you know what.
Uhh... my theory seems to be supported by the read link going to her myspace page, meaning that she sent the story in herself rather than Engadget re-reporting it from a reputable news source.
If she really wanted to support open source, she could do it by donating money or learning programming. You don't get blog space or your own reality show, but it actually helps. The proverbial man will not have anything stuck to him by a tattoo.
Life is too short... if a cute girl like this gets a tattoo... I'm going to enjoy it, not call her out on publicity stunts.
Seriously, what do all these replys have to do on how hot she is. Get your own space!!
Actually it was a guy from androidcommunity.com who submitted. lol
After you have sex with her you have to make her available for sex with anyone else who wants it. That's what the GPL is all about.
@KarlW, maybe she already knows how to program. You do know there are girls around here (like me) who know hoe to program and hack, right?
Ahhh no!
@ KarlW
Yea, she surely is; and so what?
@Setnev
A cute girl with a cute robot tattoo.. whats wrong with that
Every guy saying that she is cute honestly needs to get some..........(help)
I'm not normally a hater, I just disapprove of people branding themselves to get some media attention. Giving them the attention on a blog as widely read as Engadget is only going to encourage more people to do it. I'm also aware that there are many female programmers, my point is that there are far more productive ways to support a cause than to tattoo yourself with logos.
Tattooing yourself doesn't make you more deserving of more attention than those who use their skills to directly contribute to efforts like Linux, KDE, Wine, ReactOS...etc. My problem is that the media attention isn't related to what people have accomplished. Maybe it's inevitable, but it doesn't mean I can't complain about it.
Yeah she is cute which is why she can't be android girl, she needs to be as ugly as the G1.
@ Cody
Awww....she doesn't conform to your personal standards for female beauty. We're sowwie.
Or maybe your just jealous? Hm.
Beautiful eyes on that one.
So you're more of a KDE guy (into dressed up gloss and glitter), and she's more XFCE (just beautiful with out all that crap). That doesn't mean she's ugly, not by a long shot.
I'd say she's Gnome, but clearly she's not fat and bloated. I guess I should have used Enlightenment instead of KDE...
Yawn, typical girl. I could find a dozen of those in a minute at pretty much any grocery store.
KarlW [ she might be a publicity whore, but you are a ball slapper.
@ KarlW
you do realize the clothes you wear are branded, unless you knit or make your own cloth... so either you go nude or start learning how to knit god damn it!
Yeah... definitely much better looking than the Zune guy.
Zune Dude < Dell Dude < Apple Stoner Chick
@deedeedee
None of my close are branded. And I don't knit.
Wow, even tnkgrl commented here. Love your work!
It's a real tattoo...you see the bumpy skin inside the tattoo? It's scar tissue from the tattoo...
she needs to eat, maybe then she can grow long healthy hair instead of needing to cut it.
I'm a robot....
SHE IS HOT!!!
She looks EMO
@flashpoint
there fore HOT!!! :D
@Flashpoint
Are you 12?
This is full of win.
mmmmm cute.
but it looks like she did the tat herself lol
Tattoo also looks a little wonky to me too. Looks like she got creative with some markers and it'll wash off if she sweats too much.
"Too bad she only dates robots."
I'm a robot... in bed ;)
Warning: Replies to the following comment are prepubescent bilious smut.
But can she do the "Robo-boogie"?
i can see why she chose the android mascot as a tattoo if shes geeky. its quite cute and she can pull it off as any other tattoo untill google take over the world! cool tattoo tho. hope she doesnt turn into the fat slob zuneguy was tho.
The android bot is not as well known and in my opinion is kinda cute. It would make a better tattoo than the zune logo or apple logo any day
yea i think so too
Her and Zune Guy should go out on a date. Damn sure they aren't dating anyone right now.
she might be seeing someone. zuneguy, id guess is single.
Weird, comment I was lambasting has disappeared. Oh well, it applies to most of the rest of you freaks.
It says on her MySpace page (if you follow the Read link) that she's in a relationship. I don't think it's with the Zune guy. Maybe he should wait for a Symbian girl?
zune guy doesnt use the zune anymore. He has a slacker G2 now.
Until she SEES zune guy, why would anyone go near that guy? lol, she deserves better, not implying me, who is taken :)
Girl is definitely hot, great tattoo as well.
Nice carpet!
that is pretty nice carpet if i must say myself
Oh, go back to Playstation Home already, will you?
Watch her go nuts in 9 months time when Google don't invite her for a tour of their offices.
9 Months? Are you suggesting she's pregnant with a Google Android lovechild?
Looks like a felt tip job to me...
which is much better than making a lifetime advert commitment.
it also looks like she's left handed
i agree looks like marker
I expect a load of 12 Year olds saying shes cute.
Guess you stopped finding girls cute once you hit the 12 year mark... That's ok.
Well for a geek that wants to show support of "open source", she is definitely cute! Its really not that different from guy geeks, 8/10 or more are overweight, unattractive, and/or unable to court members of the opposite sex (or same if you are into that).
With that in mind, this chick definitely scores high on the charts...
Oh, and "Apple Girls" don't really count unless they know how to use the command line or setup their own wordpress installation .. LOL
Actually I don't find her very cute or attractive at all.
if she is all about open source why not go with Linux penguin?
you mean Tux as mention in article....
**as was mentioned
The best thing any non-techie can do for themselves and FOSS is to forget the word 'linux' entirely.
Sure, the penguin's cute, but if people don't know the difference between a kernel, desktop environment, and operating system, you shouldn't be telling them about 'linux', just as you shouldn't be telling them about XNU or NT6.
Correct; one should be preaching two doctrines:open-source, and UNIX, and pointing them at whichever (semi-)open UNIX fits their situation. That's generally either Cygwin (if they're bound by a Windows-only professional app) or some Linux-based system, but AFAICT FreeBSD isn't a bad choice for Windows power users. And if you turn them onto, say, Ubuntu, call it _Ubuntu_, not Linux.
(A singular advantage of the BSDs: you can't tell a noob is conflating the kernel and userland, because the whole thing's one project. :D )
Too late.
Should have gone for Tux instead. I sense that android won't really be the hit it's expected to be.
who ever called linux a "hit"? i'm willing to bet that, very soon, there will be far more people using android than linux. most of them won't even know what "open source" means.
Well that's a great shame but you are possibly right. I still don't think Android will become that popular though. It still has a long way to come before it is the must-have OS for phones and PDAs. At the moment it is pretty much just a gimmick. I rather see someone get a Tux tattoo as Tux is THE open source mascot.
Hopefully people don't decide on tattoos based on anticipated market share.
Which gives me hope that I'll find a girl with a "Glenda the Plan 9 bunny" tattoo (preferably with helmet):
She has amazing eyes (imo).
i agree :)
+1
Wait, Android is open source? What's with all the secrecy then?
....Tech? No? Slow day?
cute girl will always take priority over the next apple product. cute girl linux user will take top priority over anything.
I liek BooBz. Those are magnificent gadgets!
That is one shit quality tattoo, looks like she did it herself.
Poor girl.
I'd just like to add that it would be a pretty cool tattoo if it was done well.
No, it's not a shit quality tattoo, it's just a pretty new one. I would guess a day or two old. Before the "scabs" fall off, new tattoos always look a little strange and crumpled.
It's not the best Tattoo that you can have.
I hope she won't regret it like the Zune Guy.
You mean bought out by apple?
Oh.... I mean..... hehe :P
Much easier on the eyes than Zune guy tbh
She's Paul Miller's new crush. Old crush being zune guy.
I'm still convinced that Zune Guy and I are gonna work it out... just a couple more firmware updates.
Is Marvin a reference to the always-depressive robot in Douglas Adams' Hithchiker's Guide to the Galaxy? :)
Yeah, that Marvin (Marvin the Paranoid Android) + Marvin the Martian.
What the hell? Did my post get deleted? :(
It seems so! It made me chuckle as well.
Why Engadget, why?
Mine was also deleted. Anyone who seeks attention like this should be fair game for critique anyway.
I didn't even make a critique! I just made a funny post :(
Do it again!
To be fair she seems to have just posted it on a forum somewhere, not where I'd go for the most attention.
The Rue21 tattoo and shirt fit in with Marvin lol
The tattoo is only 2 days old so it's all scabby and whatnot. It looks a little better in the "day of" photo on my mySpace.
:)
Tattoo girl speaks? Wow.
And I suppose yeah I didn't take into account it's a fresh tattoo.
Upload the picture?
There's bugger all on your myspace except three photos. I don't think this is you though. If that makes sense.
Welcome to Engadget.
Does it say Google across her lower back ?
I have a tattoo of the windows logo on my ass, everyone want me to send in a photo of that?
