Sony's VAIO P ultraportable revealed

P.S. Sorry for the blur, best we could do before the security hammer came down across our knuckles.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Yep, there it is...In other news
Not to be outdone... we've got a new laptop too and it has a user-replacable battery and will retail for far less than $2700
The key board looks nice...
sOny fail!. what ever happen to:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/27/sony-exec-sees-eee-like-pcs-as-having-potentially-negative-impac/
I dont get it. Whats the big deal?
The big deal is this is the first netbook with the "Trackpoint" nub / nipple instead of mousepad.
The only other big thing here is the obvious price that nobody is going to want to spend on this. The "vaio" brand name automatically shoots the price up $250 more than it should be.
Not the first. Sony already had 'netbooks' with trackpoints many years ago.
This is a big deal because the specs is exciting.
I'm not saying you or anyone should care about this notebook. I mostly couldn't care less.
One thing I like about the design from what I can tell so far is that it finally address a few chronic complaints about sub-notebooks and netbooks and blah blah books:
1 - "Why is there so much bezel around the screen? That sucks."
2 - "Why is the keyboard so small? That sucks."
3 - "Why can't I watch the highest possible quality video on my $300 netbook with its crap screen and BS GPU?"
Careful observers will note that complaint 1 and complaint 2 ARE REALLY THE SAME STUPID ISSUE. If the keyboard is close to full size, there's too much room around the screen, leading to the comment, "What's up with the screen? You don't need that much space for crap speakers." While if the bezel around the screen is minimal, the keyboard is tiny. BECAUSE GUESS WHAT: THE TWO PIECES ARE BUILT TO FIT AND STANDARD SCREEN DIMENSIONS AND STANDARD KEYBOARD DIMENSIONS DON'T MATCH.
You all know by now how the geniuses who work at TSA in airports think small computers are DVD players? Sure, this doesn't have an optical drive in it, but its the design equivalent. And for less than $1000, I'm frankly shocked. If people won't pay for multiplicably increased visual feedback in a "netbook," they won't pay for anything. Which, maybe they won't, I couldn't care less.
I dont think they were called "netbooks"..actually this isn't a netbook either now that I realize.. so yea.. this is another non-news junk article
world first trapezoidal screen
Looks tiny and pretty thin. Can't wait for a proper spec list - especially weight and battery life.
It's tiny and thin alright. But the thick bezel and expected overpriced-tag will be a turn off.
skewed picture is skewed!
"Now with state a of the arc non-removable battery.....!"
where exactly is the "state" point on an arc?
It's state of the ART, not arc you big philly goose
pendejo.
Puto.
Boys, quit playing around and finish mowing the lawn.
@rock99rock lol! I'm mexican and I found this funny.
rock99rock eres un pendejo racista hijo de puta
(rock99rock you are my friend)
Evangelion, you found it funny because you are a pendejo.
Rock99Rock:
Epic Win, best comment I've read in a while.
@Nik "best comment I've heard in a while"
Which puts you in the same racist category as rock99rock.
want
That's reserved for Apple software updates.
Yet Another Wonderful Netbook.
YAWN?
Nice.
This for around G huh?
Unless there's a flexible display on this puppy, something ain't quite right with that picture...
NIPPLES...are, hard to guide,
lol, go ahead guys this is wide open for many cracks. the floor is yours now
cracks...nipples... [head explodes]
"wide open for many cracks"
I bet you didn't intend that one though...
Do you honestly expect any of us to believe that you've ever played with one that wasn't hard plastic attached to an electronic device?
Full "Screen" keyboard looks coool, must be fun to tipe on!
Should I spend my 1000$ I'll make during holidays on it?
More pictures please :)
it doesnt look like the speculated pics at all, silver keyboard, the black one looked better :(
hope there is a full black one.....
specs, what are the specs??? when will it be available........
This pic confirms the huge 1.25"+ side bezels I predicted earlier...
Also that display looks more 16:9 than the supposed 16:7.68 screen ratio leaked from Sonystyle.
good ol' charlie brown, thanks!
For this to be a move forward, it would need to have two nipples.
but then you'd have too much fun with it!
One nipple is OK as long as it supports pinching and flicking gestures
rofl
But I don't really mind all the Apple stuff.
non-glossy screen? 6-cell battery? hope so
It was labeled "breaking" at first, hence my question just a few posts above. Don't know why they removed it though.
What's with the skewy picture?
Sealing a battery in a pocket device is understandable. Sealing a battery in a laptop is just stupid. Who cares about a couple millimeters more or less on a laptop. Also you don't save any money and you don't extend battery life by sealing a battery in a laptop, cause the laptop is so big anyways.
I have a hard time believing the end statement "first authenticated pictures " because you got the pics off a monitor so that would suggest that SOMEONE ELSE got the FIRST Pictures of it before you, maybe you're the FIRST BLOG to get a glimpse but obviously someone beat you to the punch.
Oh btw it's nice and I would like one for my 37th Birthday next month, you feelin' me Engadget?
You sound like you're 12.
the pictures are on display at the sony booth at CES. en
I have to look forward in guiding this expensive nippled netbook from Sony. I guess i ll pass , though i wont mind the standard two nipple i am so used to
There's a hdmi port there! :D
I know, Epic Win! Even the new macbook pro doesn't have one!
Not so "underwhelming" now is it?
Yes. Yes, it is.
Boring!
SOOPERGOOMAN : I totally agree with you, they do the same for "Engadget was first in the world to reveal the P from the FCC specs"
Funny, how can they tell that ? Have they seen each Website ?
We publish at same time (because I am France) but with better information than the poor information published by Engadget ! I was already working on the FCC files in the morning here in France while Engaget was sleeping in US ;-)
Jeff
"Engadget published poor information, you can see better information on my original post"
You may have better information but I wouldn't know because it's NOT IN ENGLISH. I believe you've misrepresented your site by writing the above in english. Had you written this comment in your other tongue I could have saved time by ignoring it.
too much BEZEL.
that much bezel makes baby jesus cry.
I can't really understand most of the displays for netbooks. I guess they make em tiny to not use up the battery, but I can't stand the giant borders they leave on most of these things, just seems like a waste of space.
is it red, or is that just because it has been taken on a monitor?
otherwise, its a rather good looking thing.
It is tagged breaking, the labels only show up on the front page, not on the post itself. No, I don't know why.
Hope your knuckles are ok...
1.33 atom cpu, windows vista, inflated price tag......1 word...............morons. How is it is possible for one of the biggest tech companies in the world can honestly believe that a higher price machine running the most unpopular operating sytem on the planet (vista) on a less powerful processor than most of it's rivals who also happen to be running the best version of windows ever made (and under cutting them on price) = winner. I love sony but always get the impression there is some gargantuan bureaucracy/red tape/ego problem within the people running the company that leads them to make unbelievably stupid moves despite being last to enter an oversaturated market and have all the possible insight into the sector they could possibly want. How long did these jokers hold on to atrac for? i mean christ you would have thouht they would have got a clue by now. I say it again....MORONS.
I like small laptops but I will need to play with this computer in the store to see if I like it without the mouse pad? My business currently uses Dell Computers
the right side of it, is that an hdmi out port>? or sd port>
yaay. finally a new Picturebook. I'm gonna be all over this.
I wish we could be rid of you trolls.
Oh this is priceless. I don't know how you guys come up with this stuff so quickly. Fanboy gold.
can we pierce the nipple?
Big bezel because it's an OLED screen. Battery life will be awesome.
It's just me, or it sounds twice more interesting after the non-removable battery/paying extra for a matte screen fiasco? ;)
Wow. Thank you Sony for the trackpoint. This is going to be awesome.
Screw that. I'm all about that new Macbook Wheel!
No mouse buttons? Thats great, you get a nipple but you lose the ability to right click. How can they market a non-touchscreen device with no way to click?
Seriously I hope its an OLED if not its gonna be a tough if not impossible sell. Though it does have some nice creature comforts like SS flash drive it is gonna be an overinflated sony. Though that isnt stopping me from saving up for one.
Anybody thinks the screen is too wide????
Wow... wonder what they did with all the old PictureBooks (I love my old PictureBook - over-priced, under-powered, crap battery and ahead of it's time... hopefully this one solves the first 3 problems on my list)
They really should just go back to the design of the Vaio Picturebook and simply update the internals.
Ed.
what is the price of this little baby ???
Sigh. For 2 thirds of the price you can just get a fully functioning laptop. If you buy this you're just paying for the Sony label.
Chicklet keyboard, so what? The new iMac has a chicklet keyboard too, and it doesn't have an excuse because it's a desktop so it has all the room in the world, while the Sony did a pretty nice job sneaking so much functionality in a package that could fit in a coat pocket if need be. Stop the Sony-bashing, Engadget: Sony's P is the only netbook that you can actually view those big-ass pics on engadget, so consider it free advertising for your sit.
Great Post, I really liked your post. Talking about Vaio laptops, we specialize in Vaio Laptops and would be happy to have you review our prices..
