Samsung BD-P4600 hands-on: 'world's slimmest' Blu-ray player
We're not quite sold on its world's slimmest Blu-ray player claim, but this Samsung BD-P4600 is certainly one of the sleekest, especially with its Touch of Color aesthetic. Also like its ToC muse, it seems to have a knack for catching and showing off dust particles. We didn't see the touch controls on top of the unit, and we weren't allowed to pull it out and get a clear shot of the ports, but did manage to snap a image of the disc loader on the right side of the unit. Still no word on pricing, so keep guessing.

More like world's ugliest Blu-ray player!

It is very sleek looking but its length looks absolutely absurd. I'll take a Blue-Ray player that is thicker and not as long please. Oh right, I'm holding out for that new disc by Royal Digital Media that can hold 100-gb and has a cost comparable to that of current DVDs...

Looks pretty nice, in my opinion, but who really cares how this it is. You're not likely to move it around too much and I think vertical space is not as much of a problem as horizontal.

Why build the worlds thinnest BluRay player, then put it on a stand making it take up more volume than any other player (DVD or BluRay) on the market?
ctralka828 @ Jan 7th 2009 9:12PM
Who cares... I like my BluRay players the way I like all my equipment... rack-mountable.
Rick @ Jan 8th 2009 9:58AM
Exactly!! Why create something that will look strange in a rack or any type of modern TV stand?! I hate that about the PS3 as well!. At least the Wii can lay down and look normal. This looks like the aliens in Independence Day and will look silly sitting on top of another component.
Strange lines, edges, 45 degree angles please.
Rick @ Jan 8th 2009 9:58AM
Well, 90 degrees maybe..

As nice as it looks, I appreciate the stack-a-bility of my Sony player. I have my VCR (yes, really... I get paid to copy VHS to DVD), DVD burner, my Blu-ray player, and my TV stacked., and really don't have space to put it any other way.

This design makes it impossible to rack mount or stack something else on top of it. I don't like this design at all.

I can finally show my blu-ray player to friends and not be ashamed of its looks! Wow!
But then again I have neither OLED Full-HD tv with a diagonal of 40 inches, nor a collection of blu-ray disks, bought instead of DVDs since they had the same price...
I'll pass this time.

I kinda like it. It would complement my 6 series tv nicely. And I bet it fits inbetween the TV and whatever you have it sitting on. Unless the wall. I doubt it'd be cheap enough to get rid of my PS3 through. But its not like I play games on it. Somethings need to be slim, other don't.

Is worlds slimmest thing that you have to keep at home even worth it?

World's first BluRay capable surfboard!

What's wrong with you people? This isn't aimed at people with equipment racks, it's aimed at people who have wall-mounted TVs and want something they can bolt on the wall beneath their TV.
Why is it that everyone assumes every product launched is aimed at them? And then, when a product, not aimed at them, doesn't do what they want it to, get all upset?
