Brother Quattro 6000D hands-on

We just got a nice look at the beastly Brother Quattro 6000D sewing machine here at CES. We've done a fair amount of embroidery in our day, and we have to say, seeing this machine in action is pretty impressive. Disappointing Disney branding aside (yup, that's Mickey Mouse beneath the giant 4.5 x 7-inch Sharp HD LCD), the Quattro boasts a 50 square inch workspace that is probably any quilter's dream, and it's also got 3 USB ports. Sadly, the purchase price ("about $9,000") is probably prohibitive for most of us casual stitchers. No word yet on availability, but check the gallery and video after the break.

This machine instills fear into grandchildren worldwide.

I remember the old days when we had to create vector graphics on a PC workstation and convert it to machine code, then carry the diskette to the operating station, all in order to create the patterns for the sewing head to follow on the two-axis jig across the greige...and the machine was the size of a large room!
You kids have it easy with your USB, LCD, multi-bobbin desktops.
/Been to way too many textile machinery shows...

What else has Brother got at it's booth? I'm looking to pick up a label maker...should I wait?
del @ Jan 8th 2009 10:23PM
With tax, it's over $9000!
STINK @ Jan 8th 2009 11:09PM
What? 9000?!
Wolfticket @ Jan 8th 2009 10:53PM
Interestingly, "arse stitcher" receives precisely 0.000 hits on Google. By "common vernacular" do you in fact mean "between my close knit group of pals"?
AlexL @ Jan 8th 2009 10:56PM
This will save me more than $9000 in Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, American Eagle, etc.....
STINK @ Jan 8th 2009 11:07PM
But can it play Crysis?
*insert low ranking vote here*

So did this dude. Much obliged.

Attention, lawbreakers, this is the copyright police. Come out with your hands up, and turn over all non-licensed Disney paraphernalia . . .

If you don't want all the built in Disney embroidery patterns, you should be able to find the equivalent Baby Lock Ellisimo for well under $6500. My Mom got hers from Sewing Machines Plus in San Marcos, CA. Baby Lock dealers require that you show up in person to purchase or be in their immediate territory. Anyway, this is an amazing machine.

This could be a good side business for someone especially graphic artists ..they could make professional looking but low cost custom embroidered shirts for various occasions/organizations .. the $9000 could actually pay for itself.
Umm if if u start such a company make me a partner.

What needs stitching here is your ignorant mouth Sir.

"No word yet on availability"

It's been available for several months. I should know, my wife bought one!
dave @ Jan 9th 2009 9:26AM
bernina and husquvarna pwn brother in this market... the world of competitive touch screen sewing machines... brother is the "walmart" brand and has no where near the reliability.
Hackettman @ Jan 9th 2009 9:54AM
I didnt realize this did the stitching on its own. I thought it gave you more tools to do it yourself..... This thing is friggin sweet......

a cnc machine with thread, whats next?
Laura @ Jan 10th 2009 12:45AM
I have a Quattro... and it's WORTH EVERY PENNY!
and in reply to Dave: Brother may have lower end machines in Walmart (which are superb quality BTW!), and every one of their higher end machines beat Viking and Singer out of the water!
Bosco: Babylock machines are produced by Brother, but rebranded.
If anyone is interested in getting into the home sewing/embroidery biz... look into a Brother PR-600/PR-620... it's a personal multi-head embroidery machine...

Can someone tell me -- do you need to change color thread manually every time ?
