Dell's Studio XPS 1640 gets rough-handled and photographed

Dell's new Studio XPS laptops came quietly onto the scene this morning, and CNET has been gracious enough to share their hands-on photos of the 16-inch beauty with us. The 1640 (like its 13-inch sibling, the 1340) is the love child of the company's Studio and XPS lines. If you're so inclined as to hit the read link there are plenty of delightful pics of the machine with its backlit keyboard, "smart-looking" leather trim and happenin' 16:9 display.

I don't get why this i breaking news.
Hmm, it changed now.
It still is.. maybe Engadget gave up on Apple and went with Dell?
It's breaking news because it's a new laptop!
It's a 16" beast with a high end graphic card, AND it gets 2 hours with a full HD display. That's pretty good.
I think this will be my next laptop with full HD 1920x1080 display.
Ummm, NotebookReview has their full review up already. Too bad it's hot and only gets two hours on standard battery :(
Hurrah for slot loading drives.
This is such a smart looking laptop. Very un-dell if you ask me. They usually boast bland designs coupled with lots of plastic...to keep the prices low.
The space between the keyboard and the screen is a bit much and im not a fan of the "screws" on the bottom left and right near the hinges but other than that...
design and gaming combined!
kudos to dell!!!
Return what to you? Your dignity? NEVER!
Can we start getting laptops wrapped in suede next? Or microfiber.
Patriks7 you should note the dell ads on the site and answer your question... follow the benjamin$
I'm curious on the cows for laptops or something? maybe the cows were dead already and dell is recycling them? I can hear it: "in a joint recycling venture with McDonalds Dell is using otherwise wasted materials as an effort to promote our effort to be an enviromental leader in manufacturing..."
I love leather myself. Just know I'm gleefully whacking a stick over the heads of the herbo lacto veggies and tree huggers. I just wish they'd do the whole cover in leather. (But not the keys like that other guy!!)
you should note that by hitting reply you can actually reply to him so that you can be much closer to his comment
oh no....not another crappy cnet review
