White Dell Adamo pictures leak out
While we got some early time with Dell's super-secret Adamo prototype, it looks like we weren't the only ones -- and it also looks like we didn't get the whole enchilada: there's a wicked-sexy white version hiding in the Palms as well. Still no more details than before, but bub.blicio.us was also allowed to boot the aluminum ultraportable, so at least we know that there's chips in that box. We're actually headed back to check out the Mini 10, so we'll dig for even more (and try to get pictures in a better-lit room), but for now check these latest Adamo pictures in the gallery.

Seriously. Much better than the black one.
I've got to say, there are some sexy products being unveiled this year. This and the VAIO P are the most notable for me. I really wish Apple would license OSX out. I don't mean this as an inflammatory comment, but if either of those ran OSX, I'd buy it. I switched a few years ago, and the thought of using Windows again is really the only drawback for me.
Hopefully it'll be better once the OEMs are using their own Linux distributions and have more flexibility of the software. On the evidence of some of the products we've seen at CES so far, they've got the hardware nailed.
larryryan0824 @ Jan 9th 2009 7:10PM
Apple would never want that. No one would buy there expensive computers. I used to use windows a couple years ago, but then got a mac pro and Leopard is the shit. I've been messing with windows 7 and they are on a comeback. Steve Balumer (however you spell it) said there is even more features for windows 7 that won't be in the beta version. The adamo with MW7 will be a great laptop.

first time i have lust for a Dell.
truly!
adrian @ Jan 9th 2009 8:02PM
I am no fan of Dell but I have to admit that the white Adamo looks bloody good to me. Dell should of had some proper photo's taken of it though.
Jon Doe. @ Jan 9th 2009 10:28PM
Leopard is shit alright. Hard core shit. Shit on a cracker. Diarrhea type shit that runs down your leg after you think the OS is THE SHIT, but then you get the surprise of a lifetime.
WickedEast @ Jan 10th 2009 2:22AM
The sexiness captured on video:
http://blog.laptopmag.com/hands-on-with-superslim-dell-adamo-what-the-voodoo-envy-should-have-been
(No Engadget, it is not really a "leak" since a journalist was actually allowed to have a quick hands-on and shoot a video about it.)
nikster @ Jan 10th 2009 3:33AM
@larryryan - totally agree. just my personal experience but Vista has completely taken all PC laptops out of contention for me. hopefully win7 will make PCs once again a viable alternative.
tyler @ Jan 10th 2009 4:36AM
@ larryryan0824:
I thought Apple users were more intelligent?
"No one would buy there expensive computers ... but then got a mac pro and Leopard is the shit."
their expensive computers? and then you went out and got one?
tyler @ Jan 10th 2009 4:41AM
p.s. props to dell.. amazing looking machine!
larryryan0824 @ Jan 10th 2009 11:21AM
@tyler
No i said if apple let their OSX out so it worked on any computer no one would buy their expensive computers. Everyone knows that apple has over priced computers. I could have gotten the XPS for half the price with the same specs, or even built one for even cheaper. I wanted OSX and since intel mac have bootcamp I could install windows agian on another hard drive and have both operating systems. The Mac Pro to me is one of the nicest desktops i have seen and i had to have it. The guts of these machines are so solid. I love the ram docks and the hard drive bays, and of course how the computer is all aluminum. I plan to actually do all three (OSX, windows, and ubuntu) with triple boot. OSX is the nicest looking OS yet, and it has tons of features that windows just doesn't have. I also don't have to worry about viruses like i would with windows. But that is slowly changing. And don't say i could have just got the XFI chip and got a cheaper machine because that wasn't out then. I still wouldn't do it anyway.

@ larryryan0824
You have probably already been had at about this... Um, Win7 has even more features than the Beta. That's a good thing? Do we need more features, especially ones that aren't going to be tested on users before release. I wish Win7 had less features. And Bro, like why would you go get a Mac Pro, they are $$$$$. An Apple laptop sure, but the Pro? I never quite get that.
Jdegid @ Jan 9th 2009 5:51PM
Looks like the side view of a retro Toaster
huh @ Jan 9th 2009 6:39PM
I think "fetish" is the word people are looking for describe this, it very much reminds me of a retro diner, which is functional I guess by why indents and a railing on a notebook? It might be comforting to some. I'll take function leads to style, myself, the Sony Vaio P or Macbook's design are a by product of the functional/material requirements, and they look good naturally (although Apple goes fetishy in their minimalism, 1 USB port is not enough and it's better to have them on both sides).
Chris @ Jan 9th 2009 5:52PM
Beautiful! Dell really hit it this time. Anyone know where that mesh-style Vista sign in screen came from?
Beastage @ Jan 9th 2009 6:27PM
I think Dell hit the "designed" niche with studio hybrid and latitude series, the adamo is another step.
Gotta admit it looks nice.
lostmotel @ Jan 10th 2009 11:57AM
You have to replace the background files in imageres.dll using something like ResHacker.

admchnty @ Jan 9th 2009 5:53PM
Sexy, love the backlit keyboard and the etching on the touchpad. Now that glare is definately tolerable as long as your not an ogre.

Beautiful! Dell really hit it this time. Anyone know where that black, mesh-style Vista boot/sign in screen came from?
boolean22 @ Jan 9th 2009 7:49PM
Have you seen the upper toolbar on the desktop? Mmh...
Anyways, I always tried those Docks... the free ones and the paid ones... ended up in the Recycle Bin. If you know Windows enough, you wouldn't need those stuff to move around... even less with Vista.
Altho I like the overall black theme.
chansthename @ Jan 10th 2009 4:40AM
I actually find that object dock make life faster for common things like my documents and the assortment of folders and also commonly used programs (internet, word, notepad, utorrent and the current game I'm playing)
dannyccmc @ Jan 9th 2009 5:54PM
Wow, I am totally and utterly impressed with Dell! Gotta hand it to the Round Rock boys, they sure made a good looking notebook.
jesseswang @ Jan 9th 2009 5:57PM
These pictures definitely make the Adamo look more attractive than the black photos from earlier. Though I do think there is an awful lot of black border around the screen.
iKurt @ Jan 9th 2009 6:00PM
It looks very much like a Macbook. Too bad in runs Windows.
Joe @ Jan 9th 2009 6:06PM
In the way that it's a) a laptop and b) it's well designed. Errr, that's it. :-)
I'm a MacBook owner. If I used a PC I'd like it to look as nice as this.
Ruben @ Jan 9th 2009 6:06PM
Besides the fact that it has a screen on a lid with a keyboard on the bottom and a trackpad below it, i fail to see the similarity.
In fact, i would go as far as to say it looks substantially more like a Voodoo Envy than any Mac laptop.
Didnt the Voodoo Envy have a full glass screen on a laptop well before the Mac laptops did?
Saad Rabia @ Jan 9th 2009 6:10PM
iKurt, what the fuck man?!
larryryan0824 @ Jan 9th 2009 6:11PM
It does not look like the macbook pro. You only think that because its a laptop with a black border around the screen. Black around the screen, or even a picture makes the picture look better to the eye. This laptop is sick.
Boards of Canada @ Jan 9th 2009 6:49PM

Maybe he's iEye's love child?
Seriously though, whats the obsession these days with fancy speaker grills? Just keep it rectangular and stop distorting my sound! =P
Coy @ Jan 9th 2009 9:52PM
Oh....I didn't realize mac's had the silver portion on the bottom. How can you even say that looks anything like a mac? It doesn't look anything a like
Caleb Sawtell @ Jan 10th 2009 3:35AM
Dell will probably put linux on this bad boy like the rest of their laptops
Nomi @ Jan 9th 2009 6:00PM
Someone wanna figure out how thick it is...
jb @ Jan 9th 2009 6:01PM
I love small & thin gadgets but ... anybody else use the external monitor port besides me?
I love a laptop but I also love the ability to use an external monitor without an adapter.
I now have an acer aspire one & though not the thinnest I've owned I love being able to just plug it in to an external monitor.
had a picturebook years back .. didn't love the adapter.
zyren @ Jan 9th 2009 6:45PM
It has a displayport built in. All of the new dell ultrasharp displays have one, so theres no adapter needed.
Joe @ Jan 9th 2009 6:03PM
It just goes to show that design is becoming as important as specification when it comes to laptops and netbooks. They are part of our apparel when we're out and about. Dell will do well this model.
kay21 @ Jan 10th 2009 3:03PM
it'll never be as cool as a macbook
iKurt @ Jan 9th 2009 6:15PM
I agree, the precision unibody enclosure is the best technology to come around in a while. Apple did it right and as a result offered a robust aluminum body with the best OS out there.
The Adamo on the other hand, is a clone with the previous generation Macbook Pro's backlit keyboard and rounded corners, and the edge-to-edge glass around the screen. I'm not going to be surprised if the Dell does not exceed standard of Apple's dedication to engineering, industrual design, and environment.
Boards of Canada @ Jan 9th 2009 6:52PM
Dude, retro toaster style is cooler. Swallow.
Roroco @ Jan 9th 2009 8:35PM
Because I buy a computer to be cool. Geez... Talk about shallow.
Mauricio @ Jan 10th 2009 3:12AM
for iKurt:
Just because MBs are the only laptops you like or know doesn't mean they are the only ones. Backlit keyboards? You know how many laptops have that feature? If fact, correct me otherwise but I recall Alienware laptops to have backlit keyboards before Macs. If fact, now Alienware laptops can change the color of the light at the click of a button from software on the laptop. Other laptops also have edge to edge glass. Such as HP, Gateway...
You only think this Dell looks like a Mac because of the color, ya right like Apple Copyrighted the color.
azn2mit @ Jan 19th 2009 6:52AM
too bad apple can't patent cool.
/end sarcasm
kr @ Jan 9th 2009 6:10PM
The purpose of thin 13.3" laptops with no optical drives escapes me. If it is going to consume the same footprint there is little point in making it a few millimeters thinner. If I want a light, convenient, but crippled laptop I will use my EEE. Someone care to enlighten me?
L @ Jan 9th 2009 6:20PM
You're not in the target demographic. Explanation enough?
I think that optical drives will go the way of the dodo soon enough anyway - I certainly can't say I miss it in my Eee, and I use it a *lot* nowadays, more than my main 15" laptop...
Boards of Canada @ Jan 9th 2009 6:53PM
Divx, Xvid, Mkv, mp4... just pick one!
dark star @ Jan 9th 2009 11:46PM
when was the last time u really use the dvd drive?
i can only speak for myself off course, but i havent been using the drive. all i use is a usb drive or network to pull files in and out.
for me, it is not about thin, it is about weight. the macbook air is thin but bloody heavy at 3.3lbs. im used to using lightweight laptops around 2lbs. i wouldnt mind paying $2000 if this Dell if it is less than 2.5lbs. i carry a laptop around all day so every pound lesser certainly helps!
